Re: New downloadable content for Links, with a $5 charge

I don't care that they are charging, but $5 for 1 course is absurd.

Sure, almost anyone can easily afford $5. But the point is they are testing the waters. Next year if you have to pay $5 for a NFL roster update are you going to be happy?

It's simple, you want to charge then provide comparable content for the price. $5 for 1 course isn't a good deal. 2 courses and you don't hear a peep out of me.

I have no problem paying $5 for a new course. I used to shell out over $20 for new courses for Links on the PC. I don't see the big deal, $5 is not that much. I don't work for free, so I don't expect programmers to either.

$5 is more than fair IMO.

                  Links 2004 Fact Sheet

                  </font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
Championship courses. “Links 2004” features some of the most luxurious and challenging golf courses in the world, including Greywolf (Alberta, Canada), New South Wales (Australia), Loch Lomond (U.K.), and Superstition Mountain (Arizona). If you want even more variety, courses, and challenge, new downloadable content will be periodically available via Xbox Live.

                  <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Nowhere in that statement does it say pay for availability. Just says periodically available. All this does is setup companies to say ok fine, you want those extra hall of fame players, fine, pay for it. You want roster updates, pay for it.

What is next? Just increase the price of the game and build in the future course upgrades. Unfortunately they know that no one will buy the game at the higher price so they sucker you in with the statement above and then decide to make you pay for the content. They can continue this direction if they want, but I will back off of gaming and get more picky on what I play and buy which ultimately will be mean less and less gaming. If thats what they want so be it, but considering the rate I buy games during the busy seasons itll just mean I have more money for other things.

I agree totally with the earlier statement that I am already paying $60 for the service and the game and the system. Increase the price of the service another $50 then. But this pay later to get more crap stinks.

                              Dale:

It's $5. Less than one pizza. Less than the price of a movie at the cinema. About the same as a six-pack of decent beer. And I think you'll get a hell of a lot more mileage out of Kapalua than any of the above.

Sure, you can counter "it's the principle." And I agree, somewhat.

But you can't lump all downloads together. If MS starts charging for roster updates, then yeah, I'll be steamed. But it takes a lot of manpower and time to build an entire 18-hole real course for Links for the console.

Again, I don't think all downloads are the same. This isn't a couple of extra cars for Project Gotham. It's not one fictitious map for MechAssault or Splinter Cell that doesn't require a painstaking attention to realism as a real-life golf course.

I downloaded and played Kapalua, and it's worth the $5. It's a fun course.

                              Take care,
