I haven't even tried creating a course yet; I'm a little nervous about how much work that will take.

If you're on console, prepare for a slow going with the course creator. I am just about done making my first 2K21 course on PS4, and the creator loads things soooooo slowly. Watching the PC guys do it on YouTube videos...it seems about 10x faster for them that it is for me. And I'm talking about even just navigating the pages of trees, buildings, and other objects. It takes at least 4-5 seconds to switch from one page to a next, and probably another 2-3 seconds to go from one item to another on the same page. That all adds up, especially when the item you're looking for is on page 17 or 18 of 35.

Also, be sure to save all the dang time when creating a course. I get blue screens, errors, and crashes about every 15 minutes when working on my course, especially when trying to multi-plant trees and things. I've lost a lot of work due to these issues...it's not fun.

I don't have the game but it sounds like they have a long way to go to make tournament play and career mode realistic. Is it true that Justin Thomas usually shoots the same score regardless of course? That he either wins or is on your tail if you are leader?

Cut scenes to other pros seems underdone and most folks are turning them off. I am sure there are other areas that are lacking in these areas as well.

I guess it is a good game to pick up and play a few rounds from what I read. I'll keep checking reviews and patches before taking the plunge...

So after playing the game for a month now the one thing that stands out to me is the much larger effect quartering winds have on ball movement. Much more than in previous editions of the game.

I made a game changing discovery a few days back, on the PC version at least. I've been missing so many fairways and greens due partly to my tendency to go 7 o-clock to 1 o-clock on the swing plane. I moved my thumb about a quarter of an inch to the right as to where I rest it on the thumb pad. It feels like my thumb is now more over the right half of the thumbstick than the center. It also feels a bit awkward.

I made myself play a round like this and much to my surprise, I was actually pretty well painting the vertical swing plane axis for most of the round. The unanticipated benefit was that I also found I was maintaining more consistent swing tempos. I have to force myself to place my thumb where I'm placing it on the thumbstick now because it still feels awkward, yet continues to produce far more consistent results :o

In my third round using this new technique, I shot a 65, in Pro Swing Difficulty in the official 2K21 tournament at Ravenswood!? I couldn't believe it, but that little 1/4" move of the thumb has radically changed the way I play the game :o I just hope I can get to the point where it feels natural to place my thumb where I'm placing it.

I then took that new thumb placement position to the XBox One X version, and once again stayed much truer on the swing plane/path. I did see an improvement in tempo management, but nothing to compare to the improved degree of tempo management I now have on the PC version, at 60 FPS.

I need help! I've just bought this game for my PC, so using mouse and keyboard control. I had a lot of fun on the practice range and like the way the various shots are implemented. I then started a Q School round and immediately hit a problem. The game set up my player for a 5 hybrid shot and I wanted to use the driver but couldn't change the club or even make a swing with the 5 hybrid. I had to return to the settings menu and to control, where I clicked on 'mouse and keyboard' (which I had already selected). I then returned to the round and was able to change clubs and swing without a problem. BUT at the start of the next hole (and each succeeding hole) I had the same thing happen - couldn't change the computer-selected club or swing the club until I had returned to settings/control and clicked on 'mouse and keyboard'! I assume it can't be a bug as many others are using the mouse with PCs. I gave up on the 5th hole. I repeat - help!!

I deleted 19 a few weeks ago. Downloaded it this morning and played a few holes. 21 is miles better looking and playing. I forgot how much better until I tried 19 today. Night and day on all levels.

I tried mouse control one time before the patch, just to see what it was all about. I have to rearrange my rec room to bring a table and chair that I can use to support a mouse, at least for the degree of motion required for this game. I don't know how you guys do it... the mouse control method feels clunky to me, and I'd never have a prayer of hitting a fairway or a green in regulation if I tried to use it.

I forgot which course I was playing, but I hit a tee shot left and it rested on a stone cart path. Took my 6 iron and when I struck the ball, I saw sparks from my club hitting the path!
That was damn cool and a very nice touch !

Thanks for your concern but I finally solved the problem. I was getting 'help'(!) messages when playing the tee shot in the middle-top of the screen, above the fairway. Once I had turned those off in the settings menu everything was fine. I must say I'm really enjoying the game at the moment. The refusal to go down the arcade route with the swing controls largely makes up for rough edges in other aspects of the game eg feeble stats engine, very basic commentary and crowds. I hope the tournament atmosphere side of the game gets a lot more attention next time round.

I'm seeing folks mention on other forums that, in the last day or two, they are noticing changes to the tempo on swings and putts. This is mostly on the TGC Tour forums:

I've noticed a difference in the speed of the putting stroke animation and the roll of the ball, especially within 8 to 10 feet of the hole. This is on the XBox One X. I'm adjusting to it pretty quickly and I just finished a round where I had less than three, 3-putts, and that hasn't happened since I don't know when! They fixed the ball labels on ghost balls also, which had not been working at all for the previous three days. It's amazing what they can do server side with this game.

I just played two rounds in career mode, on the same settings I have been using pretty much since launch. Not sure if it's the changes in tempo or it's just a fluke, but I shot -15 in a two-round tourney at the Tall Palms Classic at Jumeriah Club (first round, I shot a -8 64, second round a -7 65).

It's probably the best two-round stretch I've played. And I just won back-to-back events on Tour.

This is a bit surprising, because I was away from the game for over a week, stepped back into it, and it seems easier to me. I had thought I found a solid difficulty setting base, but it appears I may have to change up some things to increase the challenge if this keeps up.

Double posting to just reiterate that the game appears to have gotten much easier for me following the server-side tempo tweak.

I just won my third event in a row in career mode, with AI Skill now set to 83%. Prior to my week away from the game and from the tempo tweak, I had the AI Skill set to 79% and was able to contend occasionally. Now, I am leading almost from the get-go, and I have won these last three events by anywhere from 3 to 6 shots.

I will continue to adjust the AI Skill, and will need to re-examine my own difficulty settings to get the game back to being a challenge again.

Last thing to say on this...It is entirely frustrating to see that HB Studios would change their game mechanics without telling anyone or giving an update after the change was made. It's not surprising I suppose, given HB's reputation, but I was hoping to see a change in their practices with 2K21.

Fool me once, twice...never again.

People will disagree with me, but to me the main problem with this franchise is HB's continued involvement as the developer.

They are "ok" at this - not great (sadly) - and they seem to keep reminding us of this with version after version after version of similarly frustrating issues.
