Yeah they need to stop screwing with it. With difficulty levels now in the game anyone can find a good spot. Cheaters and tweakers will always do what they do no matter how the game is handled. That Fast bug? They need to make those shots duck hooks and smother hooks. I know how to fix their a$$e$. WTH it's just a video game anyway. I like it fine I play it legit.

Prior to my week away from the game and from the tempo tweak, I had the AI Skill set to 79% and was able to contend occasionally. Now, I am leading almost from the get-go, and I have won these last three events by anywhere from 3 to 6 shots.

I will continue to adjust the AI Skill, and will need to re-examine my own difficulty settings to get the game back to being a challenge again.

Last thing to say on this...It is entirely frustrating to see that HB Studios would change their game mechanics without telling anyone or giving an update after the change was made. It's not surprising I suppose, given HB's reputation, but I was hoping to see a change in their practices with 2K21.
Look at the outcry the first day or so after launch of people saying it was too difficult. This change was eventually coming. But HB not telling anyone is pretty scummy. Noticed the other day that putting was different. Missed five or six 2 foot putts before I noticed the change.

Are they going to do anything about the game freezing when trying to watch a replay you’ve saved?

It could be the courses you played. I remember in my career I also went off on Jumeriah and if memory serves the next tourney too.

I do know that they mentioned they tweaked the putting to get rid of the hiccup when putting with a slow tempo. I personally have not noticed any other difference.

It has continued on, even on courses I have issues with, or are "Hard" or "Medium" difficulty...I think I shot an -8 63 last night at Riviera, which I had really struggled with in the past. And I shot a 67 with a hole in one when playing Erin Hills in a local match.

I have never had any issue with putting.

I have changed no settings, other than now increasing CPU Skill in career mode, and am using the same clubs I have used for at least a month or so. But I have noticed that the gray area at the top of the swing tempo meter is much larger than it was before, and I get a lot more "Perfects" now than ever before, too.

Basically, I think I will need to go one difficulty level up now, and probably start playing on Master. Or start removing some of the on-screen aids to make the game a bit more challenging.

What happens if you aren’t online for career mode? Can you still play with the 15 courses that come with game or am I out of business?

Once one gets some experience with this game one has to move to at least Master. I played Pro for a while, then moved to Master, where I usually score under par. I shot a +2 on Master at Riviera, and could have scored better. But make no mistake, I do have bad rounds.

Legend is the place I want to get to, eventually.

Speaking of the swing tempo, I've noticed, on and off and lately more so, that on the PC tempo has slowed down considerably. Before, I would really have to jam the stick up to get something other than slow. Now, all I do is ease the stick up and I am often a tad fast or perfect. To get a slow-- which, of course, is sometimes needed to take a little off the ball-- I have to go very slow up with the stick.

It seems now that I do have to take a few practice swings before I start a round to gauge tempo speed. It's really weird, and possibly is just in my head, now that I've played a good 175 rounds.

All in all I'm nowhere near some of these Master players scoring in the low 60s. But it's fun, nevertheless.

My Steam name is ABER. Look me up if you want to play a little multiplayer. I'd love to start a Society with a few who play Master. I don't play with the reticule-- I'd play "book only" but that display isn't very good. I also only play percentages (for putting, really, which I may soon discard) for shots: no dumb distance bar. I think my multiplier was x2.02 when playing with "book only" and somewhere around 1.9x with the "Y" key without the reticule.

I wish 2K1 would add stroke play and abandon the Pro only. Ghosts are broken too. I've looked at some of the stats of some of the ghosts, and most show a crazy amount of birdies when compared to pars. This is probably correct, as most play to get in the 50s on some dreadfully easy level.

The problem with ghosts, from what I can tell, is that the ghost will hit the ball in the rough, and then its next shot will be out in the middle of the fairway. Or miss an approach wildly right and then be setting up a short putt on the next shot. This is almost universal, which makes playing a ghost meaningless. Something is dreadfully wrong.

Career mode cannot be accessed at all without a active internet connection.

That isn’t what he asked though.
He asked if he could play the 15 official courses without a connection.
The answer to that is yes.
                    Yes you can.

Yeah, it appears I misread that. Sorry!

You can play local "play now" matches on the official courses with no internet connection, as lions67 mentioned. But you cannot access anything in career mode without an internet connection.

Re: PGA Tour 2K21 Impressions Thread

Thanks to both MrArlingtonBeach and lions67 for answereing my question. Actually what I wanted to know was could I play the career mode using just the 15 'on the disk' courses (presumably with more than one tournement per course) rather than the usual combination of those 15 plus the remainder on user created courses.

My concern is that I am very discriminiating when it comes to patches and rarely download all of them when it comes to sports games. As such my console is offline most of the time. I didn't want to be playing career mode golf and have Madden patched beyond the point I wanted it to be unbeknowst to me until after it was too late.

Since I'm on xboxone I should be able to take steps to protect against this with settings and backups but I was just curious.

                        Thanks again...

                          No problem!

Unfortunately, you cannot even access career mode without having your console connected to the internet. If you're offline and select the career mode from the menu, a error will pop up that says an active internet connection is required to access the game mode.

I enjoy the gameplay but the bug in career mode where tournament results are wrong bothers me a lot. It makes it so hard to trust the game’s coding if it cannot get the simplest things right. Maybe my swing isn’t too fast, or maybe the game is scripted. Who knows?

That error opens the door to a lot of bad things and must be fixed. Completely ruins the immersion when you grind out a win and then restart the game to see you credited with only a second-place finish.

I do like this game but I am in my first year on the PGA Tour and Justin Thomas is just killing it. He has won 11 of the first 16 tournaments and wins with ridiculous scores around -30. I have the CPU players set to normal. Kind of ruins the realism for me.

I haven't really delved into PGA TOUR 2K21's career mode that much. I have played one event in the Korn Ferry TOUR, but the spreadsheet feel of the scoring and the lack of seeing other golfers playing their rounds sort of left me wanting. I know what I want for career mode in this game is a big ask, but I'd like to have a field of AI golfers who were playing their rounds, stroke-by-stroke, based on attribute based models and course conditions. They don't even have a true AI model that you can compete against individually in non-tournament situations, let alone an entire field of true attribute based AI models.

I say what I want is a big ask, but it's been done before with great success, IMO. PGA Championship Golf 2000 by Sierra did just this and you could create your own AI models, assigning their attributes and even play along with them... it was fantastic. Yes, they'd run into situations now and then where they'd spaz out because there weren't fully programmed to handle every predicament, but it didn't happen often enough to break it.

I'll eventually at least try to finish out this Korn Ferry season I'm in right now because I haven't given it a full trial. I'm overly invested in Society mode play right now and I'm really enjoying that quite a bit. I need to get a better taste of the career mode that is here so I can relate a bit better to what you guys are saying about it.
