Appreciate everyone in here posting their impressions. Great to hear how things are going hands-on with the release version in the real world.

Also, anyone playing this on PC? I am sort of leaning toward PC because I'm thinking that the course creator might be easier to use on a PC, but would be interested in how the game plays on anyone else's rig.
I got it for PC. I feel it plays better than last version. I haven't even messed with settings this year as it looked and played acceptably upon install. Has me on 4K with all settings on high.

May play around with going to ultra and lowering resolution but so far felt like it was pretty good as us (a few instances of bushes or trees redrawing to close). But I am usually in the 40-50 fps range. This is on a gaming laptop that is a few years old (gtx 1060 6GB card).

This from a guy who spent a lot of time tinkering with settings when playing PGA 2k19. In that version I did have most settings maxed and created a bunch of custom resolutions and would change resolution to match course I was playing until I got highest visuals at fps in upper 48-60 range.

So my opinion is it plays better than last version as I struggled on 4K with my system last version (think I was mostly around 2688 x 1512 resolution last version).

I am loving the game, but geez I wish they would patch in a still shot of the green when you are playing with others and finish putting before they do. I want to see how my friends are finishing up, not some random scenery shot. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just let us see a live shot of the green while we wait.

I finally passed Q school after several tries. Got in posting even par.

TPC Deere Run is a trick track. Lots of hills.

Not really. They've made it very clear that you would not be able to play with them. Don't blame the company because you didn't read their release details

It was in TGC 2019, and I don't see why it wouldn't be in 2K21. You can't play the Society round with them in real time however, you have do it in what they call asynchronous mode. You both go to the launch page from the Society's schedule and start your round. Once you get to the first tee, you both go into "Profile Menu", then select "Group", then under the "Game" menu, click on "Add Player". This will bring up two options that say "Add Ghost" and "Add Live Ghost". Select "Add Live Ghost", and you should be off.

If it's like TGC 2019, you won't actually see your opponent's name on the mini scorecard until after you or your opponent has hit their tee shot. Make sure "Turn Order" is enabled before you start the round to get things synced up as quickly as possible.

It's called asynchronous play because you're not actually playing them live. There's like a 3 or 4 second delay between the time they hit their shot, and the time you see it be carried out on your screen. If you're in voice chat with them, you'll hear their reaction to their shot before you see it play out on the screen. That can be sort of a spoiler, but not a game killer. If you're not in voice chat, everything appears to be happening in real time and it'll feel and look just like Online Matchmaking.

Re: PGA Tour 2K21 Impressions Thread

I'm not sure how it is with an analog stick, but swinging the club with a mouse has proven be a very unique experience. More than any other golf game I can remember, this game's swing requires you to have a consistent rhythm with the up and downswings in order to get perfect timing. The thing that's working best for me is to watch the backswing and and move my mouse such that it moves to a comfortable endpoint just as the in-game swing reaches the top, and then immediately transition to a smooth forward motion. In other words, the less idle time the mouse has at the midpoint of the swing, the better. If I don't match my timing correctly and let the mouse hang too long at the top of the swing, I usually get a "slow" timing result.

Here's the thing - the various swing types all have different timings - especially the chip which is much slower than anything besides putting. And that is why the practice swing has improved my game immensely - being able to practice the shot type right before I take it.

Once you start getting the hang of it and understand what a perfect timing swing feels like, it's a lot easier to duplicate.

Man this game is fun. Do yourself a favor and do the swing calibration!! Makes big difference, anytime you change levels or clubs. After 6 times, finally got Q card to get to Korn Ferry!! Been a blast in a realistic fun golf way. I am not some intense no helps at all player, I am doing pro am for now with all the pro vision stuff off. Got AI scoring at easy for now in 4 rounds on korn ferry. First round, first tourney, shot a +3. This will be good replacement as madden 21 seems suspect to say the least.

Re: PGA Tour 2K21 Impressions Thread

I've had quite a bit of attitude shift, in a favorable direction, concerning 2K21, over the last two days. During my first three days with it, I was experiencing quite a bit of frustration, trying to get a handle on every shot using the new swing interface. I was unable to break 90, the first three days using Pro difficulty. My tempo was all over the place between very fast and very slow. I rage quit two rounds after 6 and 7 putting two greens. I was averaging hitting three fairways and five greens per round.

I then did a lot of reading posts on various forums, watching instructional YouTube videos, and experimenting on the practice range. I then turned the power bars off, as they were proving to be more of a distraction and an aid. However, my biggest problem was that I couldn't bury my TGC 2019 swing habits for both full shots and putting. 2K21's swing interface seems to be checking to make sure the player is putting pressure on the thumbstick all the way through the swing to completion.

I had developed a habit in 2019 where my thumb was flying off the thumbstick, shortly after I'd gotten just past the midpoint of the stick's motion on the follow through, for ALL shots. 2K21 won't let you get a way with that! I now find that I'm completing my swings more reliably and consistently, and getting a tempo result that I can reconcile with my senses.

This constant stick pressure is also required in the putting game. I'm getting more consistent rolls on my putts now that I'm keeping thumb pressure on the stick throughout. I'm doing so while I'm taking the putter back as slowly and deliberately as I can manage. I'm using the haptic feedback to help me gauge my desired backswing length, as I find the power bars to be a distraction, for all shots. The putting is now so much more satisfying, but it's still tough to manage in a more properly scaled sense, however.

The other key area I was setting myself up for failure in was taking the club back too far. If you go beyond 101% on your backswing, you're going to have to be with a 5 degree band on your swing tempo to come anywhere near your target. A tempo error is severely punished. I'm getting much more control and consistent tempo by keeping that power between like 98 to 101%, although 101% seems to be the length I most frequently attain, all the while trying to come in just under it.

Let me tell you about the sweetest shot I've hit in this game today. It will speak oodles about the underlying potential this swing interface has within it. Playing Pro difficulty, I was hitting my tee shot on the 18th hole at TPC Louisiana today. I took the club back until I felt the first hint of vibration from the swing sticks haptic feedback. The lag in the time I felt between that and the time I made that ever so slight pause at the top turned out to be a 101% backswing length. I then kept an evenly measured pressure on the thumbstick, but my swing path slightly brushed the gray on the swing feedback meter. I came through at a pace that registered just one gradient to the left of the ideal "white" zone at the top of the feedback meter, where I "Perfect" tempo would have been reported, and thereby reporting an overall "Fast" tempo.

The shot result in golfer terms was a push draw that started right of the target, but the draw brought it back to the point of aim. There were two layers of haptic vibration associated with it that brought a new dimension to the experience, but this shot was a euphoric experience like I've NEVER experienced before. The good thing is that I know more of them lay in wait!

Meanwhile, my best score so far in 2K21 is a 73, at a beautiful user made, LiDAR based course called Dauphin Highlands. This course just looks so freakin' natural and has one of the most realistic color palettes I've ever seen in a TGC game. It's so encouraging to see courses of this caliber already being created in PGA TOUR 2K21!

The swing calibration has proven to be beneficial to me as well. I found that if I just go through it by swinging the club in a way that feels the most natural to me, and stopping my backswing at what feels like 100% (stay away from a backstop mechanical stop here by all means), I get the best results, and results that seem to translate better for me in the game.

Yes you can... what they call "Societies" in the game are in essence "leagues". An online Society can have one to four round tournaments in any combination and on as many days a week as they want. It's my favorite way to play the game, followed by public and private matchmaking, but this year career mode may actually find it's way onto my playlist!

Meters off, just timing it off the vibrations has been my method of play as well. Meters have always been distracting to me, I turn off all shot meters in Nba 2k as well.
