I really hope they don't make that mistake, particularly with an "all new swing".

I’m REALLY hoping we at least get a system close to TW14, Rory is just too simple, I want to feel as if I’m more prone to not hit the right distance, and end up short or long. TW14 really has that.

In concept, the diagonal swing of TW sounded like it would be the answer. In practice, I couldn't make make my senses buy the idea that I was having to swing the stick from 7 o-clock to 1 o-clock to produce a straight shot. Yes, it made the game more challenging, but not for a reason that was intuitively modeled by what I was doing with the stick. I tried it for a month and simply never could come to terms with it.

I like for the tempo to be a component of the swing, but I still think HB has it bass ackwards with the tempo determining hook/slice, and swing path determining push/pull. My terrestrial physics wired brain tells me that those two components should be reversed.

I think EA's next golf game will need to have a tempo component in its swing mechanic to work for a lot of gamers and I expect we'll see one.

Amen... the dial-a-distance aspect of Rory didn't sit well with me. There's got to be more proportionality to an analog golf game's swing if it's going to have any staying power with me. I don't think EA is going to overlook that this time out.

I think for me, someone needs to re-think the swing mechanism in a golf video game completely from the ground up. We've had some pretty good discussions in the forums previously about what that might look like, and there are plenty of ideas, but the common theme in all the suggestions/arguments is that pulling the thumbstick down and then up is just not all that compelling in the long-term as a core gameplay loop. With all the talent at EA or elsewhere, someone has to be able to come up with something more fun/skill-based than that.

I realize this is not just a "Rory" problem, but I think the implementation of it in the game was particularly uninteresting, primarily because the timing of the green 'bubble' filling up never really changed, as every shot was essentially designed around a full swing. So it became kind of like dial-a-yardage pretty quickly (If I'm recalling this game correctly...it's been a while).

I hear what you're saying about the swing problems but please let's not have a mechanism like 2k employed in their baseball game and those thumb gymnastics.

Woof...that is some amazing marketing there.

Imagine - two of the world's biggest sports game publishers (EA and 2K) are making golf games at the same time. And neither can offer any kind of competent marketing.

One repeats the same stock photos for two straight years. The other posts social media..."stuff" for..."reasons", and those posts make their game look worse than it is.

                      The game of chicken continues

I really think EA is waiting to see what 2k eventually shows/releases

                      All good by me.
Long ways until next March/April still anyhow.

All I know is that other games in the sports world get "pitch notes" and full trailers to spell out updates and additions to their games, all provided in the months before a new version releases.

The golf games get...silence, repeat photos of courses we've seen a million times, and whatever this is:

The shot of the Tudor style clubhouse looks like Oak Hill site of the 2023 PGA championship. I’m thrilled that it will be in the game as I have played there many times.

Nowhere is Oak Hill confirmed or mentioned to be in the EA game. Those are the clubhouses for the next 3 fedex cup courses.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the East Lake clubhouse.

Well that’s disappointing and a bit embarrassing that I didn’t even recognize a place that I’m familiar with.

On the other hand wouldn’t it make sense to have all of the 2023 major courses in the game? Also Oak Hill was in TW 14 so they have already done all of the ‘field work’ associated with building the course.
