A delay here is really odd and I assume (hope) has a really good reason.

Getting closer and closer to EA's release window, or worse yet overlapping with it, is not in 2k's favor. It's not even about relative product offering or quality, it's just about getting to market first if you can, especially before the holidays and gift giving/buying season, etc

Exactly right. And unless EA really falls short with game play, how can 2k really compete for new buyers of a golf game when EA has all the majors, and playable pros?

2k simply has to get this out before Christmas to have any chance at 1m in sales. Even that is probably a stretch because unless they really shock us with some major upgrades and improvements, most 2k players will probably take a wait and see approach and wait for EA. I won't, I'll buy both immediately, but most people probably won't do that.

Think about EA College football, wayyy bigger than these games and no leaks or anything outside of information request from Matt Brown.

I think both games are going to do reasonably well, but I think they'll be largely splitting up marketshare pie ... not growing some larger pie.

Golf has limits in terms of larger mainstream market appeal here folks

That's the way I see it too... some will buy both games, arcade players will buy EA and sim will end up buying 2K. EA will probably make their game very user friendly again, we will be stripping it down the middle in no time, even at expert mode. But the graphics should be very good.

That was kind of my point, even if it's just an evolutionary upgrade, which it probably will be, why in the world wouldn't they release whatever it is well before EA? It's their only chance to even approach 1m copies in my estimation. It just makes no sense at all to me to wait until early 23 to release it.

Because the game is not ready... whatever that means in their case.

No clue why you are positioning one brand as "arcade" and one as "sim"

Both HB and EA golf games can be every bit as hard as you want them to be, via the same general methods of adjusting the assists and particular swing factors

I've noticed that "sim" players seem to think turning off assists and aids makes things more "realistic", especially on the green (no grid/beads/heat map, etc)

You've been able to do that in basically every serious golf game for the last 2 decades.

It's also amazing to me in this day and age that devs and companies can keep an absolute air tight lid on leaks. There hasn't been word one from either company, no rumors, nothing. I don't see how that's possible these days.

They're getting better and better at this, letting the other companies guessing. 2K pretty much know what the EA game is going to look like, almost all the content has been released publicly.

Nor do we know if they are done adding content.

How on Earth are you taking the position that the EA game is essentially a known quantity?

We have no clue what the all new swing is like...how the shot link data will be used, what pros are in or out, the extent of the course list, how great the graphics may in fact be..

Like -- we know almost nothing actually.

We've seen not a single image (let alone video) of this game and EA haven't released a golf game in 7 years.

Maybe not all the reason for the delays but LIV through a monkey wrench into the proceedings. 2k? No new engine they would have made a big deal of this already. With k2 you never know the pr dept is non existent.

Sure there is, but the most important is already all there. Frosbite engine/graphics. Augusta and the 4 Majors, the list of almost all the courses... new swing mechanic.
