After all this time with Unity either they are incompetent or nothing can be done. I don't even know how much turning terrain down to very soft would help.

The playoffs, going by Apex's video, look absolute rubbish, confusing, no tension, no immersion. Only plus - at least there's always a clear winner now. But the bare minimum they could have done, very disappointing.

It appears few people are in love with this game except for the You Tubers that got the early build.

I think, for me personally, it's more of a disappointment in that 2K/HB had their 2-year development cycle (plus some) and came up with this, what looks like a very mild improvement over 2K21.

I wasn't expecting them to go absolutely wild and reinvent the wheel or anything, but I expected to see more polish, more innovation, more immersion, etc.

Instead, I am seeing the same wonky short game issues that plagued 2K21 and needed patching, what appears to be again a disappointing (and possibly buggy, based on ApexHound's most recent video) career mode that requires you be online once again, and a game that's been really made to be more arcade than sim - far more than I thought they would (consumable golf balls, skill tree, fittings, "cosmetic-only" gear).

Also, we are now less than 2 weeks from "early access" release, and we have seen zero about online play and nothing about the course designer. I have to assume this means that the updates to those areas of the game are small or will be more focused on "quality of life" changes.

So, for me, it's more of an "I'm not angry, just disappointed" kind of thing.

This is exactly right. I've been a bit of a fanboy and very hopeful that this edition would exceed my somewhat low expectations, but after all of the videos, it's obvious this is 2k21 with Tiger and other players pasted on top of it.

I'm still buying it day one, but after 2 years to do something special even within the limitations of the Unity engine, 2k just hasn't delivered. All I was hoping for was slightly improved graphics, no ties in Career Mode, new commentary, and more courses.

They've delivered on all 3, I guess, but the other stuff that they are shoehorning into the game has me worried. Not the stuff that I will ignore, like playing as a pro or Top Golf, but the actual changes to the swing and the mechanics of the game.

My wife and I played 2k21 last night for the first time in about a month, and I also played a few rounds of 1v1 matchmaking, and that game is still solid and fun to play, because of the actual gameplay, swing mechanics and ball physics.

I just hope that they didn't screw all of that up. This release is obviously the same basic game with a bunch of new menus, bling, play as Tiger, ridiculous archetypes type stuff, etc. 2k21 with a bunch of casual arcadey stuff pasted on top.

            Sigh...

Arlington, I'm trying to find the link to Apex's round where he's in a playoff. I can't find it here or youtube. Do you have that handy? Please?

Ok...Apex is ****faced in that video lol. As I usually am when I play haha!

As Yankee said...no real drama, immersion, etc., but at least they don't end in ties anymore.

Everything about this release just seems...lazy, like they didn't even start doing anything with it until 6 months ago.

                    Again...*sigh*.

Of course I'm buying it and will burn 1/4 of every week of my life playing it, because I love golf and love this game. But (insert Apex's very frequent blasphemous use of the Lord's name here), they could have done all of this so much better. ****.

Disappointed no one was able to play with Michael Jordan.

For those on PC, if you want to pre-order the standard Steam version of PGA 2K23 and save a few bucks, check this out - 18% off pre-orders at Green Man Gaming:

Would make the standard version of the game $50.99.

I've had this feeling for a while now, but after reading how Beach and Golfnut feel in their posts (334 and 335), I'll go ahead and say I'm worried about this game.

Video games aren't perfect, but I can deal with the shortcomings if there are outstanding elements to them. What's the outstanding element to PGA Tour 2K23 to distract us from its cons? It's not the graphics because of the engine; it's not the gameplay because of the buggy aspects.

I remember reading comments that Tiger Woods wouldn't settle for a subpar game (no pun intended) with his likeness attached to it. I'm hoping this game is "over par". Yes, I know YouTubers got an early build of the game, but I'm worried about this product I'll be paying for on October 11.

I will say, while I do have similar concerns as you do, we don't know what the final product will look like, and we don't really know how it will even play/look on console, as all video shown so far is from PC. There will likely be patches, and it does sound like the NextMakers have been offering feedback about issues/concerns they've seen, too.

We obviously can't say whether the game is good, bad or awful at this point. But I think I am just disappointed to see that very little progress is being made from 2K21 to 2K23, based on the footage shown, as well as the dramatic shift to the "Arcade" side of things.

And I guess I would say I am not "worried" about the game. I am just less exited about it than I thought I would be. Which then basically means I'm not going in on a version that will give early access, as I'd like to hear/see what non-NextMakers say about the game on the 11th, 12th, and 13th.

I also still have some hope that the designer will provide some added benefits and updates...but we're all still sitting here, wondering when that content will be allowed to see the light...
