Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
As 2k players can attest, all of it feels and plays so much better at 60fps.
I could see EA prototyping and realizing that they can't do any proportional power controlled swings via the analog stick due to the relatively poor/inconsistent performance of the game overall.
I'm just stunned that it's next gen only and 30fps max (on consoles) -- and apparently with no options to pick a lower resolution + more FPS combo -- just .. such a bummer after this long wait.
It's 2023 and this isn't a flight simulator that's modeling the whole world and flight dynamics in real time -- It's a golf game ... c'mon EA.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
I'm sure they do... without that, arcade players couldn't hole out 5 - 6 times a round and shoot -28 and even better. It's all about making the game easier for them and casual players. At the end of the day, these easy modes are way more popular to anything resembling simulation. These are the modes being played the most.Comment

Nothing like the "fun" of being -10 after 12 holes
Super realistic EA -- Nice.. /sComment

That’s just a weak excuse from EA it’s swing mechanic is totally based on the marker’s position so it would mean a lot of work for them to change.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
No weather is bumming me out more and more as I think about it.
3 times of day and no weather?
We've had that in these games since like ... the 1990s
I was really hoping that would be such a cool thing on next gen with how amazing it could look and how it could influence gameplay and really make things always very subtly different.
I guess "If it's in the game, it's in the game" isn't the EA slogan anymore..
It's been just "It's in the game" now
Pretty sure I'm correct..
Either way. No weather is disappointing.Joshua:

I'm gonna wait for game play to decide one way or another but from what I've seen so far it isn't enough for me to go out and buy a PS5.Comment

Well, a little more than that. OB seems to be made right (stroke + distance). But there should be difference between red and yellow stakes and then the drop OPTIONS (back-on-line, two-club lateral, etc.) be made right for each, including unplayables. Since structures are in the game there should also be free relief. But now I’m likely asking for the moon.Comment

A lot of jumping to conclusions going on here. Let's wait and see. EA have gone to a lot of trouble getting Augusta and the other Majors. It's not going to look good if gameplay turns out to be too easy at the hardest level; also they know what that did to RM sales. There's a lot of talk in the gameplay blog about accuracy 'dispersion' for the different shot types depending on skill ratings. I'm curious to see how much of an effect that has. The jury's still out as far as I’m concerned.Comment

As for the content -- I sort of doubt the folks at Augusta care if the game is challenging or not, as long as their IP looks great (which it will). In fact, they probably prefer it skews towards more accessible so more people are playing it and enjoying it (arcade crowd)
It's always us in the "give us realism" crowd that are made to suffer it would seem.Last edited by scagwi; 02-10-2023, 10:07 AM.Comment

They need to show some real gameplay, live, from something other than in an edited hype video, to show people how it really plays. If they don't do that until post-launch...then I'd be really worried.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
Rory's gameplay wasn't great, but it was the lack of content that killed that game off before it even launched. EA seems to at least have learned from that by including 30 courses at launch, instead of eight.

I got Rory for like 10 bucks with 20 courses I think. Lack of content by that point was the least of the problems for that game and if you think about 30 isn't a whole lot more than 20.
Making the game more accessible by including 20 shot types might make the game less appealing for the golf nerd types in the end. Aside from the stinger really good players can replicate nearly every one of these shots via use of the stick in 2k.Comment

I wonder when this course deep dive video is dropping in February as stated in the description of the gameplay deep dive video.
I agree. We need to see some actual gameplay. Would have been nice if they could have shown a few holes off of Pebble Beach last week or a playthrough of a few holes of the TPC Scottsdale this week to show the game off during one of the majors, instead of just a screenshot of the stadium hole.LETS GO EAGLES

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
Banff was the last course added to Rory, and that dropped on May 11, 2016. The game released on July 14, 2015. Banff was the 14th real-world course in the game, the 16th available in the career mode, and 19th overall. So it took about 10 months to get to 14 real courses!!! Woof!!!Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 02-10-2023, 10:35 AM.Orbis Non SuficitComment
