I'm assuming the career I'm doing now I will not finish. I just wanted to work one golfer up to a high 80s or low 90s OVR to use instead of a pro. So I will start my real season but on a higher difficulty at some point. I'm already at 88 OVR, so probably pretty soon.

For one this playthrough I'm learning quite a bit about how to apply XP, but also just how the game works. I'll adjust some things, and add some house rules. I'll limit the specs on clubs and such.

Yes, indeed. I have an 88 golfer. I've shaved off some points for pick and finesse and knockdown shots. They are now at silver. I have no points on driving control and accuracy.

I am about to finish my career, being on the third round of the second phase of the FedEx. I've finished a lot of times in the top 10, and have won two tournaments, both majors. A couple of times I got into the top 5.

Right now I'm #14 in the FedEx Cup standings, and #24 in the world. I have little chance of winning it all. But it's fun.

Started my career this week. Playing on default SIM is tough but fun. My guy isn’t close to bring ready to compete yet. Haven’t broken par on Q school yet and the leaders are -6 and -5.

Stick with it… it took me a # of tries to finally “graduate” to the PGA tour.

Yeah I’m going to. I like SIM difficulty because then I don’t need to limit myself character building as much. Trying to learn shot shaping but it’s crazy hard.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

I just had the most deflating, depressing tournament of my life earlier this week.

I've logged over 200 hours in this game, I've won 4 tournaments over 2 seasons (Tour mode, meters turned off, putting grid on). I even won the Players earlier in the season, but I've still not come close to winning a Major.

We're at The Open (St. Andrews). I'm shooting my brains out, up by 3 or more all 3 first rounds. I start the final round up 5 shots (!!). 20mph wind, which is pretty brutal, but I get to the back nine 1 under on the round and still up 5 shots. I should be able to cruise to my first Major by just shooting par, right?

The back nine destroys me. I get to the 18th, I'm still up by one, and I bogey to fall into a tie with Im. I'm in total disbelief, just wanting to set the controller down and walk away from the game for a long time. But we go into a playoff, and you guessed it, he wins by one. Biggest choke on the final 9 since that one guy did it for real years back.

It really hurt! I haven't turned the game on since (this was 3 days ago). I'll get over it, but wow. That really hurt. I just have no desire to jump back in after that. It was my fault, not playing the wind right on the drives and approaches. But...ooof. I have to live with blowing a 5 stroke lead on the back 9 at St Andrews.

I’m going to give it another go tonight. After practicing some yesterday I decided to change some settings for now. I like default SIM but I feel like the shot shaping mechanic is just too difficult for me at this point. But I also want to use it. So I’m eithergoing with SIM settings but normal difficulty on swing, or stay on hard with shot shaping turned off.

I have a fade biased build because I just can’t do a repeatable draw. But I feel that’s realistic in that I’ll need to manage the course in a way to limit my need to a right to left curve.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

I started playing my career again cause I wanted to make the PGA Tour after all the 2023 majors were released, and I have done it! I made top 10 in every tournament and stayed around the top 3 of the KFT rankings (some other AI players made most top 10s as well) until the end when I won the final 2 tourneys by 1 and 6 strokes. Didn't think I'd get to 3 wins on the KFT and then did it at the last opportunities. A little disappointing to blow out the competition at the final tournament at Pebble Beach, but it was still a blast because I love playing that course so much, it's so beautifully done.

Onto the PGA Tour where I'm employing way stricter rules (keeping my overall low and only using skill points if I do well in tourneys, hardest settings, shaping all shots, etc.), 2 tourneys in. Did well in the American Express, -6 and barely top 25 despite a +2 final round. PGA West is fun, the AI golfers seemed to shoot worse than usual but maybe it was a one-time thing. Then Torrey Pines kicked my butt, that course is sooo tough but I love it lol. +4 then E and missed the cut by 2 strokes. Currently T47 in FedEx Cup and onto Pebble again, can't wait! So far, my rules seem to have created a pretty good challenge for myself.

My next PGA tournament is the Masters! I figured that I would play a practice round but other than that is there any advice folks could give me? From what I’ve read here I’m prepared to be humbled…

I’ve seen some of your previous posts so I wanted to ask how you do well with shot shaping on SIM. I’ve had to switch swing to normal and keep putting on hard. I can do a decent job shaping on normal and there’s still room for mistakes. My house rule for that is one practice swing only. On hard I just can’t seem to use it.

I've had a pretty good time with it. I'm at level 5 on both driving and approach accuracy on my golfer, I'm hitting 70-75% of fairways and 60-70% of greens from the 9 rounds I've done so far.

Shot shaping drives feels a shade too easy to be honest, I was struggling when my driving accuracy was below level 4 but as soon as I hit that in the KFT it felt a lot easier all of a sudden. Still missing a fair amount though. Shaping short game shots has always been pretty balanced and a good level of difficulty, getting the swing plane right isn't that hard but having to focus on it along with getting the swing power and tempo right to hit the right distance is what makes it consistently challenging. I've given up on the Pick shot in bunkers and just use the Blast, it's fairly difficult but not too much so, the Pick just feels like a cheat code as it is.

Shot shaping approach shots I thought at first was too hard and punishing because some can go way off but I've found that's usually when I'm off on the swing plane or way fast/slow. A few can still go a ways off when everything is okay but that will happen with random dispersion. Adding just a tiny bit of shape adds the challenge that I've wanted, I've gotten somewhat consistent results and it's fun and fairly difficult! I'll see how the difficulty changes as I up my approach accuracy stat.

So I am really enjoying reading the progress you guys have in your careers so please continue. And hopefully a few others can add in.

With the latest patch I was kind of waiting for. Admittedly haven't played the game in so long. But was waiting for this patch because it's the last one that I THINK will add courses in for career mode. So I restarted my career, but jumped straight to the PGA Tour this time. Cool to see the real 2023 schedule and stuff.

Still going with quick 4 rounds except Majors and playoffs that are full. The American Express tournament, we finished T121 with a whopping +5 and missed the cut(E) obviously.

Now I'm trying to come up with this new rule but would like some possible input. Maybe someone does this already. So missing the cut means $0 made. I've been playing F1 23 manager and dealing with budgets and going bankrupt kinda helped this idea lol.

In my head I am this broke rookie PGA tour member who can't afford to pay dues to play every tournament already. And especially missing the cut. So I'm thinking of forcing myself to skip the next two tournaments due to financial hardship lol.

And then deeper level, even if I made the cut. Then depending on where you place determines if you can play the next week's tournament or not. It would make it interesting. Maybe miss out on playing Majors cause you aren't high enough in FedEx rankings cause you've had to skip too many tournaments due to missing cuts or performing poorly.

And at the end of the day, idk about your golfers. But mine is a fly 22 year old white guy willing to blow some cash [emoji1787]

I’ve missed every cut on the Korn ferry tour. This never happened on pga 2k23. Any advice? I’m only on pro difficulty and have no clue what I’m doing wrong. My player is a 74 overall
