Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Just got to pga tour in my career. I did the full amateur season winning every event instead of jumping over at first attempt. I had no other option in the end. I got the premium version so I believe I already was level 13 when I started off? Maybe wrong but levelling up is certainly in a snails pace now at level 40. Game did humble me. I did make the cut for augusta masters but didn´t win. But honestly if I just done one or two rounds before just jumping in I maybe could have done it lol. Pinehurst the greens absolutely crushed me missed the cut by 1 stroke again. That event I couldn´t win.

But that was the last event I was truly challenged.

As for career settings I certainly made life easier on myself. I started doing the coaching challenges which boosted my character in no time. As for the career events I gradually removed aids and have always run 0 % AI difficulty. I started off doing first a full round and then quick rounds after that. Quick rounds means my AI golfer often go 7+ over which required a 18 hole round or two to recover... I sometimes started doing quick rounds when it was on courses I previously ran but that mean I had to do 18 holes later because my AI golfer loves to go 8 over as mentioned. When doing a decent job you could win events by 12 strokes. I don´t recall having to do 3 18 holes on a 4 round event. Most I could probably have won just doing quick tournaments.

As I levelled up I removed my crutches one by one. I still use grid for putting because I find it totally impossible to read the greens without grid patterns and I also allow myself to see full elevation etc. There is no good course guide otherwise it´s all or nothing here if you want see elevation or not. So I will probably always keep that aid because you really need vr if you are going to judge distance and elevation correctly by sight. Also we have caddies don´t we? He is nowhere in sight.

Getting to the pga tour it was pretty finaly see the ai golfers at play. I did raise it to 70 in my first tournament totally crushing all opposition but schaeffler still loved to find the water and I am outdriving matsuyama and him like crazy. Their iron play is often decent though and they do putt okay by my standards but so many misstakes that give triples.

My character its almost impossible to miss the fairway on drives. I find myself just flooring power drives because there is no accuracy penalty. I probably spent to much on accuracy for my drives... But I am not sure if that rating actually affect the rating when "driving" with i7 on par 3s or similar or it´s just the drivers and woods that is affected? Then it might still be important.

Absolutely love the career so far but I just hope AI now at 100 % can be actually decent. Otherwise I will just have to play lonewolf so I don´t have to see them play so badly. I don´t like complaining about AI it´s by definition bad but I played other golf games where they at least was consistent and offered more of a battle. But again hopefully at 100 % they are 100 %

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Couldn´t resist. 100 % AI. indeed matsuyama now gave me a fight and actually beated me. But I played bad all suddenly I missed fairways like never before and key approach shots I would just fail and had really to fight tooth and nail to do acceptable on the putting green.

Ended up with a 70 instead of a 60 I kind of was expecting as a result. I did respec my character a bit now for second attempt tomorrow. I removed all accuracy points for driving the idea now is to stay the hell away from power driving unless I have an insanely wide field. Also avoid doing the +3 power shots thats just pushing my luck to much and I should be fine and hopefully both better range for my irons mostly without actually sacrificing accuracy. As long as I don´t overshoot my backswing that is...

That said I am still comfortably outdriving matsuyama so power is probably not the issue.

As for putting is all AI dive putters. They just love leave it 1 inch short. I noticed this also I have all under 3 feet is gimmes. But I get so stressed each time because the ball barely drops. I have had one time where it actually didn´t drop so it´s not a guarantee but well 99,7 % safe.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Second round my new spec do work. I did bit that cameron dude. He hit the water on last par 5 however he still saved par but that helped me beat him by one stroke. Took in one shot on the leader so I can win at 100 % which is good to know but that is probably where my skill level is.

I hit longer without going red and well can still get away with power drives. But I like it now I feel I have to focus more and it´s more like real golf where you are never 100 % confident

Need to work on my gap for my clubs though but that is a never ending affair as you change parameters.

Second round You always feel like you should sink all puts that end 1 inch short but overall my putting was okay this round which made the score.

What I want now is to find a good driver spec as that is missing. Wood also but so seldom hit my 2W. Also wouldn´t mind a good hybrid spec to play more with those. They do seem better to stop then long irons though we are talking a yard or 2 less roll but accuracy is worse which is pretty accurate I suppose.

I have quite a large gap on my wedges but generally you want to run finesse shots so you don´t get these monster spins so I think that was a wise move. I have a 48 54 and 64. To bad you cant change loft on the iron sets. That would be a nice touch that the clubs you buy can have different lofts and thus not just be cosmetic.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Continuing my monologue. I am not so sure I did the right call increasing power. I did notice the accuracy blob is absolutely huge trying to "drive" on par 3s after setting accuracy to 0 on driving. Must use finess now but then you loose all backspin and struggle like hell to stick it with the long rollouts. The double benefit with spin is if you overshoot you generally create more spin at the same time and it might work out. But not with finess that just goes longer.

For same reason I hardly ever use anything other then finess for wedges because they create to much spin otherwise.

Feels kind of odd that accuracy is worse pegged up then without but that is how it is. Always have to sacrifice the sim aspect when doing the career with levelling. Would be cool if there was two game modes one where you don´t have rng and no levelling because I get the feel that the physics engine is absolutely phenomenal but this career stuff make it incredible hard for AI to work well also.

But it´s fun like heck but I want the cake and still eat it. Give it as a dlc I will buy it!

As for AI not winning tournaments anymore. Doing quick rounds Even down to 25 in AI I ended up in t3 and t4 the last tournaments. Not impossible and I would win doing full rounds at those settings but I need AI to be worse to compensate for the handicap my simulated character gives me.

I will probably start doing challenges and build my character up that way before continuing. Probably goes faster as well since 18 holes give 18000 xp and finishing a challenge set gives more if you manage to ace it and almost as much if you just settle for 2 stars.

Just started playing the other day. Man, this game is surely different from 2k. I like the difficulty of the EA version. Just started my career and joined the Korn Ferry Tour. I quit the first tournament. I knew I wouldn't make the cut. Finished 6th in one of the tournaments. Finished 10th in the one right before Hilton Head. Currently 1 under and in like 50th at Hilton Head in the middle of the second round.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Cant stop messing with my character. Now I believe I should have zero in recovery for short game. I rarely used high/long flop, spinner anyway. Since long relyinh on the pitch and chip shots.

Most of the time the rough is 90 % or better anyway

Now waiting for 2 more points so I can increase power though not sure its the best area to improve

Should have waited doing this because now it is what 120000 points just to level up. You get 18000 for one 18 hole round. Doing challenges now I did first 18 holes at Florida open. 20 % difficulty lead by three stroke how ever its tougher when doing quick plays

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Game is on sale on steam so bought it there also. Career don´t carry over but all stats and unlocks do. So it´s actually quite convenient If you fail to win a tournament on the ps 5 you have another chance on pc. I now do the amateur on pc then I will see where I do my pga tour.

I notice there is no rumble for the swing on the pc. Not with the xbox or ps 5 controller. However surprisingly I don´t really miss it. I somehow just start correct anyway. 60 fps maybe actually help in some way with the precision as well I don´t feel I suffer anyway.

Visually the PS 5 version hold up really well I honestly don´t really care about the difference here it´s small. I did install it on my absolute slowest harddrive possible as I am out of space and it shows in load times. Will move it to a ssd later on.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Won us masters at 30 % ai. I ran away a bit at the end but there was long an illusion of fight.

Pinehurst two now will be tougher I recon I didnt make the cut last time.

First round - 4 one shot off the lead after a bogey on last.

Kind of surprised how well do without the rumble. Maybe its false alarm most of the times.

Working on maxing accuracy on approach then is the question accuracy or control for driving.

Won us open at 7 under by two strokes at 30 %. Ended up 3 strokes ahead of matsuyama after he made some late bogeys so it was a great even matched event. So tricky to keep the ball on green here for someone that always must go for the flag no matter what lol

So I’m at the point with this game that I’m trying to check boxes… I’m down to a few tournaments that I haven’t won… the Farmers and the Masters being the two biggest events.

I’ve played 367 hours of this game and 8 seasons…

And without a doubt I just had the most fun experience yet in an absolute battle with Scottie at Torrey Pines. Both of us were down 4 shots to Shane Lowry to start the 4th round, paired together, and we ended up tied through 14 while Lowry dropped a few shots to put us in a position to win the event. Every hole was shot for shot… Scottie misses a 5 foot putt on 18 and we go to a playoff.

Well the playoff is 18 holes… we go back and forth the entire round trading shots. Comes down to 18 - tied… Scottie hits one to 40ft. I layup to leave myself an easy in while Scottie has to putt downhill.

Scottie hits a 40 footer to win the tournament.

Felt like I was watching an event on Sunday afternoon!

Just had an awesome finish to an event as well, playing the PGA Tour event at Bandon Dunes.

I was down one stroke to Hideki Matsuyama going into the final hole of the event. Hole 18 is a par-5 that's pretty gettable, so I figure I should at least force a playoff with a birdie.

A good drive left me about 220 yards from the hole, so I'm 100% going for it in two. I hit a 5-iron...to 6 inches! A tap-in eagle to win the event by one!

Finished round two. I shot -3 with three birdies and no bogeys. I can't remember the holes I birdied. One on the front 9 and two on back none I remember.

I am now -4 headed into the weekend and tied for 6th. The leaders are Schauffele, and Brendon Todd at -6.

But I have a shot to win my first PGA tournament and major in my career (still season one).

My golfer is doing better. I did improve my golfer and dropped difficulty of AI opponents down to 45%. Then, I won three Korn Ferry Tour events in a row including 28 under. I can't remember where. Right now, I have a 2 stroke lead at Quail Hollow, but it is a fight. Grinding like crazy. Getting ready to raise difficulty up to 48% - 52%.

The thing that is killing me is I can't make my 5 and 6 iron from rolling crazy distances on semi long approach shots. I know those irons aren't really known for spin, but man they roll an extra 30 yards sometimes. My attributes for each type of swing and game management are really good also.

Semi long approach shots? You must use them to reach the hole? I have sacrificed all control and accuracy in favour for power so long par 3s are for sure my achilles heel since you loose backspin when using finess but don´t get those rollouts. But power I guess compensate a bit generating more spin negating the lack of control? Approach is way better then hitting on pegs because my approach is levelled up.

Just won masters at 75 % difficulty. I hit 5 or 6 under par each round and it was enough to win by 1 stroke. AI didn´t really do the usual and really mess up 1 of the rounds thus it got tight.

I wish the AI would hit longer though. Need to stay with power at 0 to have it even with the AI it seems. Even though I have 0 in accuracy my driving generally hits the fairway and I use power drive even all the time.
