Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Here is my golfer attributes now. Only thing I want to get is putting up to gold Texas wedge. I've limited myself from acquiring certain shot types, but I'm going to make sure my putting is easy as possible. Playing round three today. Loving the PlayStation portal for this game. Easy enough single player game I can play at work on my breaks etc.

That looks like a fun build. I have rethought my level 50 character.

I believe short game was everything but I finally realise when do I ever shotscape around the greens. I remove all points on control and putt it on driving and approach instead. I also added some on accuracy for driving used to have zero in driving for control and accuracy.

Pick shot is a cheat that is the main negative competitively wise I lost. You dont aim you just hit the shot and is always within 2 feet. But its way more fun doing blast shot and having to plan. Same reason I stopped doing flops unless when I use them irl.

Driving is a bit to easy now but it feels great to always be able to attack every hole where as long par approach driving shots was a huge achilles heel before.

I have sacrifice putting for power. Just made sure to get the Texas wedge

Yes, the pick shot is too good and that is why I purposely don't even acquire the bronze shot. I've hit some good, some awful, some okay bunker shots using blast all the time. It makes getting pars so much more difficult if you go in the bunkers.

Yeah, the long par 3's kill me. A lot of times, I lay up and make sure I get a par. I don't even try for birdies on long par 3's.

Just got around to starting this game. I'm struggling with the shot meter a little bit. There seems to be a bit of user input delay causing inaccuracy and I don't know exactly when to end the backswing. I'm also struggling with putting but that usually happens with every golf game until I get used to how the greens are in that game.

I've only played one round so far though and overall I like the gameplay and the game looks fantastic. Starting round 2 in my first tournament right now!

Well you are doing good I used to to not even hit the green half of the time with my previous 0 control and 0 accuracy build.

My current character is waaay better now I can even get close to the pin.

Also got to propass 90 and got some epic driver, woods and hybrid specs.
              Trying woods instead of hybrids.

I did however loose pebble beach tournament with one shot. There was crazy winds all four rounds that was the reason. Doing pga championship now and it´s a walk in the park at 75. Gonna increase the AI after this and maybe also enable the lie penalties. Just want to learn the yardages etc first before I bring that into the equations.

As for putting use the beans otherwise it´s just guesswork. Need Vr to gain depth perspective and be able to judge it better. You can see on the lie if the ball is uphill or downhill that is the only help you get pretty much without grid.

The more you level up the putting the tighter the grid but feels like I do quite well also at lower settings and basic idea about the angles. As for distance adding 1.5 for uphill works quite well. For downhill 1:1 but add a few inches because otherwise you tend to end up short. Being firm with putting does make life easier just don´t overdo it though its pretty hard to overshoot the hole. Much easier to leave it 1 inch short.

I use 3 click swing and still mess up a good amount. Maybe try that if the analog swing is frustrating you.

                  Round 3 complete!

                  Front 9: I shot -1. Birdies on 1, 2, and 8. Bogeys on 3 and 6.

I am now tied for the lead at -5 as we make the turn into the back nine. It's actually a 5 way tie lol.

Back 9: Shot -2. Birdies on 16 and 18. A 22ft birdie on 18 to finish the round. I had a couple great par saves. A couple scrambling from the rough and a bunker once on the par 3 15.

Headed into the final round we are -7 and tied for 2nd with Xander Schauffele. Russell Henley shot a 64 (-6) on Saturday to claim the lead (-9).

Real life top 3 were -10, -9, and -7. So possibly a bit higher scores than real life. But I'm betting there won't be any to shoot 66 or less.

If the US Open at LACC is my first ever PGA Tour win that would be pretty cool. I need to play flawlessly and really make a few birdie putts over 12ft.

Just won Quail Hollow on Korn Ferry Tour. I used more approach shots than Finesse shots. Can someone explain the difference? I thought I watched a YouTube video that said Finesse shots were more "controllable" than Approach. I am not so sure that applies to all yardages of shots especially after teeing off. I must have missed something the YouTuber said.

I played my second round and shot -1 but was not enough to overcome +8 on the first round so I missed the cut in my first tournament. I started doing some of the challenges to earn some XP and stuff and it's pretty much like a more in depth tutorial mode.

I hadn't thought of doing 3 click swing as the last golf game I played seriously was Tiger Woods 2005 and I used analog on there. Some of those challenges had the 3 click swing though and I kind of liked it, so I'll try it out once I start my second tournament.

I have VERY little experience so far, but finesse shots seem to land more gently and don't roll as much.

Finess shots is partial shots with less spin. Depending on how you levelled your character its often more precise at least when not hitting from tee then it´s driving specs that come into play.

So you want approach for long approaches to get them to stick and for wedges I love to use finess to take out spin and have the ball stop where it lands or just roll it up

I believe the wear on my ds 5 is starting to show. I get mysterious bad trails way to frequently now with my swing. My elite controller fair better but don´t want to abuse it for this lol.

As for career us open next. I increased putting difficulty to hard it will be interesting on those greens. worn ds or not I always struggle a lot with putting and chipping to get it to track straight. Much harder then for full swing when you get these short strokes.

75 % AI is what I run at currently and I have had 5 tournaments where there was 1 shot difference so quite well tuned for my character currently.

Getting to propass 90 I fear the grind will be absolutely epic to 60 now. 54 and it´s just silly how slow things start to progress. I am out of green coin for the 24h boosters need to spend every last dime to shorten the pain I suppose next weekend. Though if I find the right ball I probably can´t afford it lol

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Final round of the US Open. Decided to have playing partner for this final round since I am in strong contention.

Wind is massive today between 8-12mph. We'll see how it affects today's scores.

We come out and par the first 5 holes. Schauffele is my playing partner also tied for 2nd with me at -7. Xander bogeys the third hole. The leader Russell Henley bogeys hole 4 and drops to 8 under. Troy Merritt is -4 after 8 holes and is in the lead at -8. Schauffele and I both BIRDIE hole 6. Xander goes back to -7, and I toe for the lead at -8.

The long par three 7th is so difficult with 12mph blowing in on the 284yd par three. I manage to get it on the green using full driver. Xander uses 3 wood and is very short. Gets it to 15 feet and makes a great putt to save par. We par as well after a lag putt.

Eighth hole, par 5. I drive it for 200ft 2nd shot. 5 iron against 10mph wind I got it on the green for a 30 foot eagle putt. Left to right but very level. Not much to it. I just move it up past the hole 1 inch and about a inch to the left. Money! My career defining moment in the US Open to take a two shot lead!

Front nine: (-3). Birdie on 6, Eagle hole 8. Schauffele: (E). Bogey hole 3. Birdie on 6.

We continue the momentum and hit a 13 foot birdie on the par 4 10th. Our lead is still only two shots with Henley and Merritt both getting birdies on holes 9 and 12. These are crucial birdies for me if I want to win!

But the awful 280yd downhill par 3 11th. Missed the green. Scrambling from the rough. Manage to get a easy 7ft par save. Henley bogeys the 10th and falls back to -8 as I admittedly am now thinking of hosting that trophy.

And another! Huge swing right to left 13ft birdie on hole 13. We are on fire with putting all of a sudden. We have a four shot lead now. Schauffele continues to par every hole and still at -7. At this point I am on damage control mode. I lay up for an easy par on the par 5 14th. We are down the final stretch with a three shot lead with Merritt birdie on 16.

As we approach the 18th, I know we have won. Our first career PGA Tour win is a major. A nice easy drive on the fairway. Second shot approach is from 187yds. Wind 10mph from left to right. Get it to 23 feet for birdie. Then a nice easy 2 foot putt to finish it.

The 2023 US Open championship! We finish -12 and win it by three shots over Troy Merritt (-9). Schauffele fell off on the back nine and finished +2 on the day.

I also did US Open today. Finished at -18 I believe. I had a comfortable lead so last round I just speedgolfed and it was actually frustrating how often that puts you close to the pin while not even caring if you are using the right club... Just show how bad you calculate sometimes lol but the winds is tough.

But my actual level with average putting seem to be -5 to -6 probably would be -20 with decent focus through all 4 rounds which is an comfortably win at 75 %. Wonder if it´s enough for 100 %

I had a glorious start of the tournament. I eagled the first hole with a pitch in where the goal was just to stay on the green lol. Then birdies galore first 9 and some pars of course. But I had laser focus and my swing just worked today again.

The goal today was just earn 18000 coin so I can buy that lexi ball. There is better I suppose but I now have like top 5 specs in all categories. that said they don´t do that much difference it´s mostly psychological lol

After I got to pro pass 90 progress is insanely slow. An entire days golfing I am just half way to a new skill level. That major do give some coin at least but would earn much more if I had propass going. Seems you get what 360 points per propass level after 90 and similar xp? Where you need more then 200000 to level up.

                                After the win at LACC:

                                FedEx Cup ranking: 15th (+8)

                                World Golf rank: 10th (+12)

The Open Championship is in four weeks. Here are the three tournaments I'll quick play through as we get to the final major of the season.

                                Weeks 23, 24, 25:

New Jersey Challenge: Kiwi Championship (Tara Iti Golf Club)

The Maine Classic (The Cliffs at Lighthouse Point)

Dominican Open (Teeth of the Dog)
