Re: PGA Tour 2K25 Trailer, Screenshots, Features and More Revealed
That's business. I'm actually encouraged, a bit, at the upgraded look of the game and the Evo shot thing. But for what little time I have to play golf these days, nothing like the previous 4 years, I'm just fine with the EA game until I can really see what this is going to feel like playing. It's not about the $80. Not at all. It's about not jumping in and investing time I really don't have, only to just shrug and put it aside after a few hours haha.
Make no mistake about it though...2k is going to rule golf gaming, and that's good. Even if this game surpasses what we are all hoping for, it's still squeezing and tweezing the very last juice out of the engine, likely with the same basic swing mechanics, and all of that.
One has to believe that if this is successful enough for them, and I truly hope it is if for nothing else than purely selfish reasons, with the team they have and finally going to nexgen (beyond PS5) for the next one in a couple of years will be the greatest golf simulation of all time. I think the future of golf gaming is in good hands with these guys. It's just a matter of whether it's worth it to me on this last upgrade on Unity.Comment

Definitely no ill will or bad intentions...I totally didn't see the post that was done in response, as I was a bit taken aback by being called out as "inappropriate" for sharing some 2K news, and didn't quite know how to react. Seems it was just bad timing and a misunderstanding. I had zero intention of causing anyone to feel bad because of a post I liked and a screenshot I shared of Tiger Woods' 2K25 attributes. I was just happy to have more details to offer up! :-)
But if those actions did cause any issues, I am truly sorry. I appreciate all who come around these parts and discuss these games, and don't want anyone to feel like they are not welcome. We are a small subset of a small group of gamers, and having a group of others who enjoy these games as much as we each do is really a great thing.
Anyway, I hope we're back to more 2K25 news here again very soon!
Cheers from -3 below Dayton Ohio haha

HAHA no kidding on his OVR rating. Probably needs to be rated somewhere in the 60's with potential to get to high 70's or so just due to age. But then again, if I were on the cover of a golf game and also the GOAT, pretty sure I could be 85 years old and would still demand a high OVR rating haha.
Exactly right, like what EA did with Jack. 99 rating. Of course they are doing that based on their glory days. As they should I think.
I don't play with the pro players, and maybe they do this with this new game, but I would think a LOT of Tiger fans would enjoy the ability to strip him of that rating and try to do a current day, fight back to relevancy campaign...starting him in the 60s or low 70s or whatever, and play with him through career mode like a Korn Ferry kid that nobody's heard of. That would be pretty cool for people that like to play as pro players, and especially Tiger fans, or any pro in any of these games that is set at the default OVR of their best days.Comment

I know this is a lot to ask, but I wish so badly that we could play a career as a real-life pro and not be forced to create our own character. I would love to play as Tiger and try to get the majors record, or play as an actual LPGA golfer and try to take down the men. Why does it always have to be a custom character? In other sports games, you can play as the real-life athletes, so why not golf?
Not a dealbreaker or anything, just something I've always wanted in a golf game.There... are... four... lights!Comment

At the end of the day, we are all here for the same thing. Our enjoyment of sports games and golf in particular. It’s easy to lose sight of that sometimes.Comment

Whenever I see a youtuber/streamer play as a pro (which is very very rare) they always complain about how different the swing is, and how hard it is to get their timing down. People would rather just play as their created player and memorize the swing. Idk, seems like there's potential for more depth in the game, but actual user feedback is either ignored or barely exists...?Comment

At first, I thought it was a licensing thing--how individual sports need gaming companies to get rights to player likenesses individually. That thought made sense....but Tiebreak allows you to use a pro in career mode, and its the official game of the ATP and WTA.
The reason I want it is because I like realism in games, and I don't like myself in games--I'm not on the ATP nor PGA Tour, I'm not in the league, and I'm not on any road to any show. I know how some pros play, and I like to replicate that in games.Comment

I've mentioned I want this, too. I know other games are like this as well, and Topspin 2K25 is one of them.

The licensing thing was always mentioned and was my assumption, too, but then EA was able to put AI-controlled pros in their career, so they seemingly can appear in those modes.
No matter what, having more of a reason to use pros would be great...otherwise, they just kind of exist in the game for no apparent reason - aside from the "Rival" system that previous 2K games had.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA Tour 2K25 Trailer, Screenshots, Features and More Revealed
I like Tom Kim, one of my favorite new generation golfers. He's a crazy kid, in a good way, and when he is on, he can beat anyone in the world.
I just wish Joel Dahmen could be "on" as often as Tom Kim is. But it was really great to watch Joel's do or die final round awhile back to save his tour card by playing the round of his life. He's so easy to root for.
He's like the drummer in my band for the last 20 years, if he was a great, natural golfer instead of a great natural drummer. He's like your neighbor or best buddy from high school that was crazy talented at something without having to put in the practice time and repetitions, constantly questioning himself and underachieving a lot of the time.
Sorry for that...my point is I have to assume that the period of these trailers and showing only stuff like this, holding back on real game play videos and/or releasing the "Hounds" to do game play walk through reviews has to be coming in the next week or so?
As MAB's tagline says, translating from the Latin, "The World Is Not Enough".
But we don't need anywhere near all of that. Just show us what it's like to look at, and play the actual game. If it's good, from a marketing standpoint, I would think pre orders would spike over the numbers since the first announcement and trailer. The longer they wait, the more I'm thinking that there's a reason they don't want to flood us with amazing swing mechanics, animations, course and graphic enhancements, and game play improvements.

Right?
They seem to be doing their bigger info drops on Tuesdays...the "reveal" trailer came on Jan. 14 and the "gameplay" trailer dropped on Jan. 21. So maybe more specific info or even some raw gameplay will come on the 28th - which is exactly one month until the standard edition releases? I sure hope so!Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 01-25-2025, 10:29 AM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

That makes sense and I hope you're right.
And even if I decide to pass on it, I really hope it's successful enough for them justify resources in a year or two to finally make the greatest golf game of all time on a different engine.Comment
