This is overall a disappointing preview in my opinion. The roster is incredible underwhelming.

The number of licensed pros is low, for sure. I imagine part of the reason for that is the LIV effect. Guys like Rahm, Harold Varner III, and Bubba Watson were in PGA 2K23. No way LIV players would be in the next PGA Tour game.

I wish they would have picked up other guys to replace them, and I don't know why PGA Tour players like Xander Schauffle and Rickie Fowler are no longer in the game after being in 2K23. Maybe there will be more added post-launch...hopefully more pros and less "celebrities".

The trailer is useless, as is normal with all of these games. The still shots, especially the one MAB did of Pebble Beach shows that for sure the game is going to look much better...in fact, although too early to tell without seeing gameplay videos, it doesn't look that different from EA (a good thing).

I'm hoping the new shot/swing options (forget what they are calling it already haha) include the ability to adjust the tempo of the swing animation. If so, I am likely in from what I'm seeing. If it's still ridiculously fast, I'll probably skip it.

For the first time, I'm not pre ordering haha!

Cross platform is huge too for people who like to play online or with a buddy (like me), especially if that includes PC players being able to play with xbox and PS5 players. I've got a friend that is a huge PC gaming guy, we play real golf together, and we've never been able to play 2k or EA online together. That would be worth it for me alone if the swing feels right and gameplay is improved.

It would be nice if it was like the old Tiger/Rory games where they had a handful of playable PGA pros, but the full roster was shown in career mode at each tournament.

They'll likely still have a leaderboard full of real pros.

Never played a 2K golf game before, but was looking forward to this reveal to see how they'd respond to the EA game and if it would better cater to my personal preferences (Career Mode, gameplay, licensed course roster). Early details sure seem promising, nabbing 3/4 majors is a huge get for Career Mode. Past 2Ks had a pretty impressive lineup of official PGA tournaments, if most return from 2K23 that plus the majors makes for an incredible Career Mode roster imo. Maybe adding St. Andrews after launch hints at a rotation of major courses in Career Mode depending on what's in the game.

The press conference feature in Career Mode looks cool, but not much info there. Will have to see what else they have and if the mode still has LPGA players, doesn't have one golfer dominating every year, and has improved on those sponsor and rival features that I didn't like from what I had seen in 2K23.

The 3D heavy rough grass being there is a small detail but one I always loved in TW/EA games. If they have more varied course dynamics so links actually play like links that will be awesome.

It does, but only in online matchmaking. 2K25 will support it in Societies and apparently 2K's own hosted competitions.... 2K23 does not support it in Society play.

Well...lots of big-time stuff here.

Well MAB, I gotta say, as low as my expectations were for this game, I have to admit I'm pleasantly surprised at what I'm seeing so far.

I've highlighted your mention of the "EvoSwing" mechanics because it at least sounds like they're trying to do something that entails more "feel", as them mention elsewhere about it. I really want to have a swing interface that relies more on feel, while also delivering feedback that's responsively integrated into the interface. This is the core area of the game that's sorely lacking on the XBox Series X in 2K23. I'm anxious now to learn more about the design bases for this EvoSwing.

Overall though, I'm seeing significantly more improvement in at least the looks of the game than I expected. It sounds like they've put some creative thought into career mode and online competitions. That will be worth watching.

The only thing I'm disappointed in so far is that I can pretty much tell by the look of the screen that they are still going to using swing path as the determinant of push/pull rather than hook/slice... (sigh). In the one screen showing the swing feedback meter, you can see that the path was outside/in... about 6:30 to 11:30. The feedback meter was reporting it as a 6.1 degree "Pull".... SMH. I still say an outside in swing is going to be more responsible for a slice than a pull. I fast or quick tempo is going to contribute more to a pull, at least in my experience. Oh well, I can't have everything my way. I wish there was a way that would allow the player chose which factor determines hook/slice and pull/push, at least in offline play.

‘Evo’ in the swing mechanics descriptor is implying an ‘Evolution’ so I’ll cling onto that for now. Very disappointed with everything else but if the mechanics are sound I’ll be definitely keeping an eye out still. I liked JP’s work in the past so still have some faith but probably will be a post release purchase if reports from proper gamers are good. Not paid nextmakers I have no interest in there shill like opinion.

At the end of the day... will career mode still have those old rivals battles? That's probably my biggest issue, it's getting old in a hurry after you go thru them. And for those not wanting LPGA players on the leaderboard, well they will be there again if they still have those rivals battles.

I hope the focus is more on your player, like with the press conferences and such. They showed in that screenshot of the press conferences that your player has a personality, and your responses change what your personality looks like. Hoping sponsorships and rewards are tied more to personality, performance, and the pre-tourney events and training and not the rivals.

They did...the quirky thing is that they also included the LPGA pros in the leaderboards, too, due to the rival system.
