They can be, but NextMakers have said it may not be worth it to do so, due to the updates. Not exactly sure what that means, but I'd have to assume that with the graphical updates and changes to physics and mechanics, things might not 100% jive when you port. This was also the case between 2K21 and 2K23...a lot of work had to be done on 2K21 courses to get them to look and play properly in 2K23.

So when they shut down the servers for 23 they can say hey what do you want for nothing. You didn't pay.

Details are minimal at this point, but they have called out things like "equipment progression", "level up tokens", "Evo Tools", etc. in the pre-order bonuses. They also still use the term "cosmetic" when distinguishing a golf ball item, so I'd assume that means there will still be consumable balls as well.

Things like that are assumed to be in games these days, but I hope it doesn't go more into the pay to win side of things...

EDIT - the game is now up for pre-order on Steam, with a new screenshot included:

The golfer looks great in that pic.

Really disappointed it appears they haven’t updated textures of sand and lips in the bunkers. This was something that looked amazing in the EA game and was hoping 2k would update as well.

Much cleaner interface - looks good. Disappointed in the roster size however.

Can you even really call something a roster with that few amount of people on it?

Would assume they add more post-launch, but yeah...11 is quite light. But they do have Shooter McGavin as well! haha!

I think 2K23 came out with 14 golf pros at launch, plus Michael Jordan and Steph Curry.

Quail Hollow image looks great… the size of the crowd is enormous!

I'm going to guess that some of the crowd reaction and animations are just cinematics. Hopefully the lighting is as improved in the game as it looks in the trailer. It's such a simple and easy (relatively speaking) way to improve the look of the game.

Also, I heard that this is current gen only? So no PS4? That seems like good news.

Been looking at the trailer a bit more & it’s clear that the skeletal model hasn’t changed. One the biggest issues on previous iterations was wrist angles at address & even in 2K25 they are equally poor. Literally the main focus of the game is still broken, can’t believe 2K see this as acceptable.

I have also always thought that the swing animations in 2K were terrible - really herky-jerky and not at all realistic-looking. Which is hard to believe, since it's literally the only character animation occurring during the game.

It seems weird to me that the original "Leaderboard Golf" from the Commodore64 days still to this day appears to have smoother swing animations than modern golf games. I understand it's 2D-vs-3D but c'mon - it's 2025!

This is overall a disappointing preview in my opinion. The roster is incredible underwhelming.
