One thing I hate about Forza are the tracks. Why oh why must I race on these fake tracks. I hated it in Gran Turismo and I hate it in Forza. It kills my enthusiasm for the game. The tracks in MSR/PGR and in NASCAR/F1/IRL/Test drive Lemans/Superbike get me amped to race since you see the tracks or cities on tv and want to experience them for yourself.

I'm not defending Forza to the hilt, as I've already sold it, but I think you're being a bit unfair in your comparison between Forza and MSR/PGR.

There are plenty of real tracks in Forza. Silverstone, Road Atlanta, the Nurburgring, Laguna Seca, Tsukuba and Road America. Blue Mountains is a pretty close replication of Bathurst, and the New York and Tokyo tracks are based on the actual streets in the real-life cities, just like MSR/PGR.

But yeah, some of the fake tracks in Forza are lame. Although I did like Maple Valley Short and Long. Those were fun.

      Take care,

I haven't given up but Forza has become an "eh" game to me. I don't know what killed it. Maybe it was the whole career/advancing to unlock cars thing (even when you had the money).

It's a time-consuming process that can frankly be tiresome to do. Even moreso when you consider the AI cars you have to race against aren't the best. Oftentimes, CPU cars that are positioned behind you won't hesitate to run you off the road instead of backing off and waiting for the opportunity to overtake in the best passing zones of a circuit. So in essence they ruin the experience of racing instead of enhancing it. And racing online is severely hampered due to the lack of restrictions that can be made by the host, among a few other things.

But with all that said, I still like to play Forza very much for different reasons. But I can certainly relate to those who can't stand the idea of playing this game through Career mode.

Combine Kruza's excellent analysis with the lack of cockpit view and the fact that Forza is becoming a dick magnet for random races on XBL, and that's why I sold it.

Kruza is spot-on with his analysis of a racing game, as usual!

Just traded in my copy of Forza at EB for Toca2...got a couple bucks credit as well.

So far, I'm really enjoying the ambience of Toca. The career mode, with your manager yelling in your ear during races, the pressure to perform and little cutscenes is a nice way to keep you involved. The racing AI seems pretty solid as well.

The "feel" of the car isn't quite as immersive as Forza, but the races are a lot more fun. Seems to be a better selection of tracks and racing styles as well. Seeing 20 cars on the track was also a nice surprise.

This is definitely a game that I can see sparking my interest in racing in general. Forza's physics were great, but it didn't score as high on the fun factor for me.

                JYD:

Very glad you're enjoying TOCA 2. Be sure to try all of the classes of cars either in the career mode or free racing. There are some real gems.

My favorites among the "early" classes:

                -- Formula Ford
                -- SEAT Supercopa
                -- Global GT Lights

Formula Fords are little beasts to drive. Easy to spin, so you need to brake and apply the power gently.

Supercopas are b*tchin' little touring cars. You can throw the car into corners, and the AI loves close-quarters racing in TOCA 2.

Global GT Lights are small sports cars powered by big cubic-inch motorcycle engines, and the chassis have a TON of downforce. So you can really drive the cars super-deep into the corners before braking, and you can jump on the gas really quickly after you've reached the apex (middle) of the corner.

Keep us posted on your faves among the tracks and cars. Give Supercopas at Brands Hatch Indy a try. An absolute blast.

I still race fairly regularly on XBL with TOCA 2. Let me know sometime if you want to race online.

                Have fun!

P.S.: One other tip -- cockpit cam is the only way to go, man! Real seat-of-the-pants immersiveness and feel that Forza can't match. You really feel like you're driving a car in the cockpit mode, not a camera.

Thanks for the tips PK...I'll definitely look for you on Live.

The cockpit cam is amazing as you say- I really don't see how a racing game could claim to be a "sim" without one.

Why didnt join a car club? Do DSP still race TOCA 2 online.

I was in a DSP car club in Forza. Never saw the point of the feature, actually.

We still race TOCA 2 periodically at DSP. I hope to make it even more regular, possibly weekly, until the monster of a racing game known as Moto GP 3 is released at the end of August. That game will completely own me.

I'm going to try and seek this out on PS2. I'd like to see how it works with the DFP.

i still have Forza but I haven't played it in months. the car customization and the amount of cars were cool aspects of it, but the online stuff killed the game for me.

1-everyone ran the same cars 2-there were some real a-holes on XBL.

i just flat-out refused to run a CRX or any other ringer so I would always wind up in 4th or 5th place. not too fun. hopefully they correct this stuff for the sequel.

i found the ps2 version of toca at a blockbuster. One interesting thing I saw was the pro-sim mode, but I found it to be exagerrated and twitchy. I did read at the Code M boards that some adjustments to the wheel calibration helps, so I'm going to do that and try and put some time into it today.

Just thought I'd get this thread going again since I've had a few weeks now to play Toca2.

For the first time, I really "get" what racing enthusiasts are all about. While toca might not simulate car physics and feel quite as accurately as forza, it does a far better job in capturing the excitement of racing.

The races are filled with drama.......Having neck and neck battles without someone running you off the road for no reason is great. I also love the 21 car battles- Feels more like a real pro race rather than some casual competition between 8 guys.

To me, this game is like WE8....I'm becoming a fan of the sport because of it.
