    Re: iRacing

I'm just focusing on the Legends car. My lap times are consistently in the low 17's. I'm able to get in the high 16's but not for more than 10 or 11 laps.

I'll try changing the rotation to 900 and see how much that will help. Thanks for the suggestion.

      Re: iRacing

Go to 900 degrees rotation with your wheel -- does a Momo allow 900 degrees? -- and drop the in-game force feedback from the default 12 into the single digits. The FFB can be a bit strong and cause your wheel to twitch and overcorrect.

I use around 6 or 7 with the in-game FFB to find a nice blend of smoothness yet still feeling the track's surface.

      Good luck.

      Take care,

Thanks PK! I'll try that out. I haven't gotten online since my last post. I'm thinking about upgrading some of my hardware very soon. What type of wheel and pedals do you prefer?

I use a Logitech Driving Force Pro. It's getting a bit long in the tooth, and I would like to upgrade fairly soon.

If you want a fine wheel for around $129, the Logitech Driving Force GT is excellent. If you can spend $250, the Logitech G25 is the ticket.

Both of those Logitech wheels offer 900 degrees of rotation. The pedals with the G25 are much better than the DFGT, but I know a $2 hack that takes five minutes that will give you more progressive brake travel with the DFGT pedals. I'd be happy to share it with you.

The Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 package offers a wheel and excellent Clubsport aluminum pedals for around $300. But I've tried a Fantec wheel and didn't care for it. Clamp didn't hold the wheel as well as Logitech's, and the firmware and software was wonky with some games. Plus there's a wait, as Fanatec -- a German company -- can't keep up with demand for its wheels.

I will stick with the tried and true -- Logitech. Your mileage may vary.

          Take care,
          PK

Just built a new PC and am very tempted to try iRacing now that they are bringing IndyCar to it. These trials are very nice but I don't think my old Andretti wheel would do the trick. It would be nice if I could get something for the 360/PC that wasn't $300 but that doesn't look like the case. Any opinion on the $99 Momo?

The Momo is great. I got mine for 89.99 at Best Buy. I love it, the force feedback is good with it. I went from no force feedback racing on iRacing to actually having a wheel with force feedback. Combine that with getting a faster computer and my lap times dropped a good amount. Defiantly recommend the Momo.

not sure if this works with the xbox, it does with the PS3.

                  Fanatec might have something

                      Re: iRacing

I don't believe the Momo offers more than 240 degrees of rotation, which is like driving with one hand behind your back in a sim like iRacing. You need 900 degrees to get the most out of iRacing, which is designed for 900-degree wheels.

You can get a Logitech Driving Force GT for $109 at newegg.com:

                      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...g%20Force%20GT

It's listed as a PS3 wheel, which it is, but it's also easily compatible with a PC with the latest Logitech driver software. The DFGT is an excellent wheel with smooth, 900-degree rotation using many of the same internal parts as the $250 G25 wheel. The pedals aren't nearly as good as the G25, but they're about the same as the Momo.

Bottom line: For about $30 more than the Momo, you're getting a much better wheel that's also compatible with a PS3. Eighty-seven percent of the user reviews have been five-star for the DFGT at newegg.com. It's a damn good wheel, probably the best on the market for the bang for the buck.

                      Have fun!

                      Take care,
                      PK

                          Re: iRacing

Thanks for the Logitech recommendation. I picked up the Driving Force GT and must say this wheel is bad *** for the price. Pedals are a bit cheap but work well enough seated at a desk. This is my first 900 degree wheel and WOW - what a difference. I had originally looked at the Fanatec because it was also compatible with the 360 but it was far to costly. I will have to just keep using the old white wheel when Forza 3 comes out...man, 240 degrees is going to be hard to go back to.

Do they race the Craftsman trucks on circuits? Still kind of figuring out all the racing/series/ratings things but they do seem to keep a great amount of detail on all the drivers which is nice.

I just wanted to say thanks for everyone's suggestions. I'm finally getting the hang of everything now. I picked up a 3rd place finish earlier this afternoon. My safety rating is around 3.5 so just holding on until I can get inside a truck. My lap time around Lanier is around 16.5. I finally figured out how to get some speed.

                            Thanks again!
