Man, I wish the Indy 500 was at a more exciting track. I always get excited for it each year, but then when I watch it I realize that it's one of the more boring tracks on the Indy circuit. That said, I'll watch it just like I always do!

Then the Coke 600 tonight, so it's a busy day!

lol, I feel asleep for the middle part of the race. woke up for the last 20 or so laps.

bad crash on the last lap. I hate races that end under yellow.

lol I sort of did the same thing, I missed the start, caught the first 55 of 60 laps, fell asleep for the next 55 or so laps, then woke up to watch the finish

Good race last night. Texas is always a fun track for the IRL.

Although the ending was a bit underwhelming with Briscoe easily winning.

Yeah, looks like Andretti Autosport might have finally found their game. All in the top 7.

Maan I know I am a couple of days late with posting but I feel terrible for the Doctor, really wanted to see him on his home track and my favorite GP track by far and away.

I thought it was going to be a nice head to head with him & J Lorenzo.

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread

I went to the Indy Race at Texas Motor Speedway this last weekend. I admit, I never watch IRL and barely keep up with NASCAR, but my dad got some free tickets from his office. The vouchers were for $10, so I expected cruddy seats. When I redeemed them (an hour before the race mind you), the guy said I could have Turn One or Turn Four tickets. I went with Turn Four, and ended up 15 rows away from the track.

There was no traffic going up there (except a bunch of cattle got out onto the access road and the sheriff's department was rounding them up), and it was a great facility. I'd never been to any race before, so when they started up I nearly had to change my pants. Even with the false start it still got me pumped up. The only downside to the night was when di Silvestra's car caught fire and it took them forever to get her out. Otherwise, it was a great event.

If anybody here can go to an Indy race, it is fifty times better in person. I'm going next year for sure.

yeah, Texas Motor Speedway has improved a lot in that department. the first few years it open, it was a nightmare. I went to all the races(nationwide, trucks, cup, and IRL) in first 3-4 years it opened. only been a few times since. last time was last year for the Nascar trucks/IRL event in June.

The Indy cars are defiantly fun to watch in person. loud and fast.

the first ever race the Nascar Cup series had at TMS, where they crashed in turn 1 on the first lap, I was sitting right there and got a up close look at the carnage. good times.
I also predicted the winner the day before. I bought a Jeff Burton shirt after the Nationwide(or Busch series as it was known then) race, and wore it the next day for the Cup race. he went on the win the Cup race the first year at TMS.

All my dad and I had heard was that you have to get there early in order to watch the race. We left south Arlington at 3:30 and ended up getting there about thirty minutes later. It was still fun though, and I was surprised about how much you could bring in food and drink. I was also surprised at how close to the track you really are. I know I was 15 rows up, but if I was twice as far away, I would have felt like I was on the track.

Back to Back weeks the 3 is in victory lane, Austin Dillon driving the 3 truck to the win in Iowa.

Not that anybody probably cares but Wyatt Gooden won the VW Jetta TDI Cup race today at Autobahn Country Club. His second consecutive win and he now leads the points.

EDIT: Oh, I posted this because Wyatt is a sim racer just like so many of us. He had raced karts prior to this series, but I don't believe he'd ever raced a car before. He won the iRacing Jetta series last year and then made it through VW's selection process to get into the real world series.

IndyCar is going to run two races in the same day at Texas next year.

Well, I'm certainly going to be there, but I don't know how that's going to work. You would think that there would have to be a cool down period between races. I wonder if they would fit a Indy Lights race in between the two races...

The WMSC verdict on team orders is a complete joke. I wasn't expecting anything real heavy -- a suspended ban I thought was most likely. But to do nothing is just wrong. It sets a precedent that I think compromises the integrity of F1 -- that you can use team orders, if you're willing to pay a $100,000 fine (and, lets face it, that's nothing to an F1 team that would actually benefit from team orders). Look, I know things like this happen behind closed doors and we never hear of them. In a sport with as much money invested in it as F1, you use loopholes and oversights to get a leg up on the competition. You'd be an idiot not to. But Ferrari was pretty blatant here -- it calls the integrity of the sport into question, and thus should be punished.

And, since I know my sig begs the question, I'd feel the exact same way if McLaren were in this spot, not Ferrari.

                                2011 IndyCar schedule is released

                                http://www.indycar.com:8080/var/asse...1_schedule.pdf

Pretty disappointing but I guess beggars can't be choosers. I really would like to see a better mix or circuits and ovals. I guess if you can only fill 10K of 100K seats at the big venues you are not going to get invited back. Sad that the boring street races are the ones that seem to be the most profitable. They should at least bring back Cleveland if that is the case.

Nobody said it was going to be easy but man it is pretty sad at this point. I do hope IndyCar gains some popularity back with the new cars. The series needs something to light a fire under it because nothing is going to bring sponsors, drivers and tracks back to a series with no fans.
