And yet he still finished third. THE drive of his career to date, a performance that will be seen as pivotal if he holds the championship lead through the last lap at Interlagos.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

Big congrats to Antron Brown, who became the first African-American NHRA champion!
Brown's first championship (in Top Fuel) came after Shumacher lost in the finals on a hole shot to Brandon Bernstein. Had Schumacher won, he would've had title #7.
Great finish to a great year!
Other NHRA champions crowned: Kraweic (sp) Pro Stock motorcycle, Allan Johnson Pro Stock (also his first), "Fast"Jack Beckman in Funny Car( his first as well).
See you next year, NHRA!Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
Just getting around to watching practice from Austin today and am quite upset I couldn't be there. Watching the cars pull out of the pits at the start brought back memories of being at Indy in 2000. Still get the chills just thinking about hearing that sound in person for the first time.Comment

How does the track look? I know there's a lot of elevation changes, which is nice, but how do you all expect the racing will be? I'll be sure to tune in for qualifying tomorrow.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
Bit of brilliant strategy by Ferrari. Broke the seal on Massa's gearbox which dropped him behind Alonso, not only moving Alonso up a spot, but putting Alonso (And Massa for that matter) on the clean side of the track for the start. If the dirty side is a dirty as drivers have been saying it's going to be, that could be huge.Comment

Great race, especially between Hamilton and Vettel for first. I liked the new track a lot.Comment

Same here. Not sure how good it'll be for F1 once it rubbers in and the grip comes up, but that was a fun race to watch. Would love to drive it some day.
Will Buxton:
This just in... 117,429 fans at COTA for the race today. Huge numbers. Fabulous, fabulous news. Well done everyone. And what a race! That means a total for the weekend in the region of 260,000. That's a truly astonishing number of people. America loves its Formula 1.Comment

The announcers and the drivers were drooling over this track.. Well done Texas, you've done America proud! Made us forget about the debacle known as Indy 2007... LolComment

You mean Indy 2005. And that wasn't IMS' fault; it was Michelin's fault for bringing the wrong tire to the Speedway.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
Ok I stand corrected. All I heard and read about was several drivers (like half the field?) refused to race, and many fans left before the race started. It was the last time an F1 race was in America, correct?Comment

It is interesting that Goodyear had a tire debacle in Indy in 2009 or 2010 with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Indy is rough on the tires.Comment
