Thanks again for the F1 history lesson! One more question- is Austin the first F1 specific track? I know they used to race at Watkins Glen, but that's also a NASCAR track.

Bit of brilliant strategy by Ferrari. Broke the seal on Massa's gearbox which dropped him behind Alonso, not only moving Alonso up a spot, but putting Alonso (And Massa for that matter) on the clean side of the track for the start. If the dirty side is a dirty as drivers have been saying it's going to be, that could be huge.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
I never thought the race would get off the ground, but it looks like the race in Austin was everything that Formula One needed. A fast track with long straights, sweeping and tight curves, and a signature turn that makes the track shine (turn one). I really want to go watch a race there. IndyCar needs to be racing there with V8Supercars to create a hell of a weekend. We also need the oil money to continue to flow in order to keep the circus.
As for the Dallas Grand Prix? It was a black eye for the city. The track tore apart, the heat was unbearable, and this was the signature of the race:

Las Vegas Grand Prix--- I was here for that. But I thought it was CART? Unless you mean the one in the early 80's..... I wasn't here for that one. I'm referring to the most recent one downtown.Last edited by Segagendude; 11-21-2012, 10:02 PM.Comment

When I talk about Las Vegas, I mean when they set up the track at the parking lot of Caesar's Palace. I think they did that just once.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Good stuff. The rain certainly threw a kink into things, but Vettel it is.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
I managed to watch most of the race in the Oakland airport while waiting for my flight. Got some funny looks when I yelled when Vettel/Senna happened and again during Hulk/Lewis.I did miss the last few laps which wasn't fun, but by that point it was all but over short of any major mistakes.

Interviewer:
"..and then comes the nephew of Aryton Senna, and here in Brazil crashes in the back of your car, what did you think at that moment?"
Vettel: (smiles) "Well let's see, the grave of Ayrton Senna is here in Sau Paulo, at the graveyard in Murumbi. One has to go there and tell him what is nephew did today. which did not help us ..."
And, in any case, I'm pretty sure Vettel was at fault. He cut right down into Senna. Was Senna just supposed to stop so Vettel could shoot right down to the bottom of the track, regardless of whether he was clear or not?
Vettel pretty much got away unscathed from his dealing while he ruined Senna's race at his home track.Last edited by superjames1992; 11-28-2012, 11:41 AM.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
When I saw it initially, I thought it was Senna's fault, but after looking at it from above later in the race, yeah, Vettel cut him off. I think the stewards didn't want to do anything to him though in case it ended up factoring into the championship. Then the one they gave to Hulkenberg was pretty harsh IMO.Comment

I figured I was the only one. I've watched 10-20 hours of coverage every year since I was about 16.Comment
