Would have loved to see Ricciardo take P1, but P2 is still a great effort, especially considering how much Vettel was struggling. Hopefully we get a race tomorrow, and it's not just Hamilton driving off into the sunset.

I still think Rosberg will win the race tomorrow.
Apart from that it's hard to judge RBR and McLaren's pace.
Practice says Toro Rosso should go backwards and Williams forward.
Will be interesting to see if Kobayashi and Chilton can follow up good qualifying performances.

Enjoyable race today, a much closer race throughout the field than expected

Poor Ricciardo getting DQ'd for fuel flow. Hard to root against him, even though it's easy to root against Red Bull. Disaster for Lotus. Ferrari not off to a great start.
Congrats to Kevin Magnusson though, that's a great start to a career.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
Total dominance by Mercedes. Poor Ricciardo again. Webber seemed to have so many more problems on pit stops and with reliability than Vettel, almost to the point that it made me suspicious sometimes. Ricciardo gets the unsafe release on the loose wheel, the wing gets damaged, he gets a penalty just to rub it in a little bit more, then he ends up retiring after all the problems cost them 2 laps basically.
Interesting new penalties. I don't know if the drive through still exists or not, Magnusson got a 5 second stop and go for clipping the back of Raikkonen on the first lap, but he didn't have to come in and serve it until his next pit stop, so that's basically just a 5-second penalty. Drive throughs tend to be around 20 or so depending on which pit lane you're in. That's an enormous difference from previous years. Bianchi got one for hitting Maldonado on the first turn, but he retired from the race soon after, so I never saw if he served that one or not.
(edit)
Ricciardo gets 10 grid spots for next week too. Ouch. I never thought I could feel bad for anything Red Bull, but none of the things that have gone wrong for him are his fault.
Raikkonen never recovered from the puncture on the first lap. Presumably there were other issues with the car as he never really threatened for a point. I'm not so sure Raikkonen wasn't the one who deserved a penalty. Probably neither of them deserved one, things just happen sometimes, although Raikkonen had no one below him, so he really didn't need to move out that wide.
Williams team orders...not surprised Massa ignored them. He was clearly tired of bowing down to Alonso for those many years. Massa was whining about Bottas early in the race, so on top of the years of playing second fiddle, I'm sure that was part of his reasoning. They told him twice to move over, I don't know if they had any other radio transmissions that didn't make it on, but they didn't seem to go on about it like it was too serious after he was clearly ignoring them.
Great race by Hulkenburg. Couldn't hold off Alonso, but well done by him.
More reliability issues. Both Saubers had issues, Perez never started. Vergne couldn't finish. Only 14 cars finished, some of the DNF's were from wrecks though. Perhaps this is the year where Marussia or Catherham can eek out a point or two.Last edited by Tovarich; 03-30-2014, 11:58 AM.Comment

Vettel not making it to Q1? IMPOSSIBLE!
But it happened (and for the second time this year). Meanwhile, Ricciardo qualified 3rd.Comment

As Ron Dennis said:
"These are the regulations we all worked on. Let's just get on with it. Let's stop the whinging."
"Most of the moans are coming from uncompetitiveness. Just get on with it and develop your car."Comment
