Whether he finishes first or second, this is one hell of a drive by Lewis. Funny that some of the best racing in F1 is coming from two teammates.

Glad Mercedes let them race eachother so we don't have to watch them both boringly coast to the end. Well done by Hamilton with the tire disadvantage to hold him off.

      Ferrari have serious issues.

Maldonado better get more then the 2 points that they seem to be handing out to everyone so far. That was an insanely stupid move.

He needs a race ban. While it didn't involve as many cars, if Grosjean got a race ban for Spa in 2012, Crashonaldo deserves one as well.

I don't know how Hamilton managed to hold off Rosberg. Good racing, in any case.

SMH. Five grid place penalty and three points on his license for Crashonaldo.

I believe that's what they call talent.

He absolutely should be suspended for that, but my understanding of the point system was that you can't be suspended for one incident.

              http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111838

Seems like a flaw in the system to me though if you can't suspend someone for one incident. Especially when said incident is that stupid and he is a repeat offender even if the current system gave everyone a fresh start.

              (edit)

3 points is laughable and pathetic and gutless.

Perhaps they are considering that the Lotus cars have been so miserable that it's more of a punishment to force him to drive the car rather than get a weekend off from dealing with their problems.

I actually didn't know that. Very dumb.

So if I'm reading that article correctly, Crashonaldo could do this in China in two weeks and Spain in five weeks, and still be able to drive in Monaco seven weeks from now. Maybe they'd adjust things if he was really causing that many accidents, but that's a tad ridiculous.

Looks like we might have an American team on the F1 grid come 2015. Gene Haas applied for a team a few months back and his entry was approved yesterday. Assuming it doesn't end up like USF1 did, it'll be great to have an American team to cheer for.

Red Bull's appeal of Ricciardo's DQ is shockingly rejected. I liked Mercedes trying to rub it in by asking for further penalties though.

As usual, lots of good stuff at Monaco.

We'll never be certain if Rosberg purposely caused the yellow flag in qualifying or not, but regardless, qualifying was the race for the 1st and 2nd spots. Just too hard to pass if you don't do it off the start. Hamilton was never going to make it by Rosberg.

Hamilton got something in his eye he said on the radio, he dropped way way back, and damn near got caught by Ricciardo.

Raikkonen was almost certainly going to finish 3rd, but on the second safety car, he got a puncture from the wreckage and had to pit a 2nd time, dropped back to 14th. Ended up getting stuck in the hairpin trying to get around Magnusson.

Then there is the case of Marussia. Jules Bianchi and a couple other people, I think lined up wrong on the start because of Maldonado stalling on the grid before the warmup lap (assuming that's what caused them to botch something fairly straight-forward anyway) and all got 5-second penalties for it. Seemingly harmless but the announcers never acknowledged the note from race control about it, so there's no real explanation been given, but that's what it sounded like from the race control explanation. Bianchi served his while the safety car was out, so he got yet another 5-second penalty because that apparently isn't allowed. I'm iffy if anyone ever told him, because he never came in to serve it and the only radio transmission they played was telling him to focus on the driving and that he was in 10th. Bianchi ended up finishing 8th because of all the wrecks. He was holding off the remaining Lotus for 10th, then moved up to 8th after Raikkonen ran himself into the barrier and stalled Magnusson. But I wonder if that will stand. Hasn't been mentioned quite yet.

They're showing Bianchi having finished 9th as of now. Perhaps they just added the 5 seconds to his time because he indeed finished ahead of Grosjean. It sounded from a radio transmission to one of the Saubers (if I remember right) that he was going to get a 5-second penalty at the end, so perhaps you don't have to come in and serve it, but I thought it specifically said drive-through 5-second penalty, so I'm unclear on exactly how those rules work, as do the commentators all seem to be.

Then on top of all that, I'm a little dodgy as to why they didn't look into his pass on Kobayashi, Raikkonen had just gotten and Bianchi very obviously caused contact by making a fairly insane move. Surprised that just got shrugged off.

This was an actual 5 second penalty that is normally served during a normal pit stop where you have to sit still for 5 seconds after all teh work is done. When you get such a penalty after your last pit stop has already been made, you're allowed not to come in and have the time penalty added to your total race time. The end result is that Bianchi dropped to 9th instead of 8th.

The reason for it being this way is that forcing the driver to come in an additional time to serve his penalty would turn a 5 second penalty into a 25+ second penalty.

The pass on Kobayashi wasn't 100% clean but they both survived and Kamui never had a chance of catching him after that.
