They are playing catch-up when it comes to marbles, time transitioning and weather changing but here's hoping they do it in a much more realistic manner. Thanks for sharing, James.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I hope it allows multiple grooves, which would be huge for oval racing, and it will also make the longer races more meaningful if the track changes over time (instead of 500 miles of hot-lapping).Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I agree with james here. I think they are working real hard to implement it in right and at the end of the video it seems to be the start of things to come, day/night, rain, ect.
In other news james you running the fixed at Daytona this week? I am and I am wondering if I should even practice for it.Comment

I kind of hate restrictor plate racing, but I can't help myself. As far as practice, it's kind of hard to unless you can find some drafting help during a practice session (which is rare).Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Finally have a pc that can run iracing. Or at least according to can I run it.com I'm above the recommended pc specs. Plus the pc runs NBA 2k15 with most things at high settings at 30 fps. So assuming it'll run iracing fine.
Just got me a Driving Force GT. Was wanting a G27 but with cost of startup decided to go cheap route.
Now my questions is: Do I do the free 3 months? Or do I just sign up for a year at $49.50? I hate to sign up for 3 months and end up loving it and having to pay $100 for a year. But then again hate to pay $50 for a year and some reason not like it or pc not run it well or something.
So now I'm trying to decide which route to take. Lol

Couple of tips.
1) Install your drivers for the Driving Force GT. I just did and I just realized I was racing the past month without force feedback.
2) Frame rate is important. It's okay to sacrifice a little bit of graphical fidelity to have a constant high framerate. Lower graphics at a constant 90 FPS will be much better for you than higher graphics at 30 or higher graphics that fluctuate.Comment

I'm in a racing league and there's room still for more drivers, and I could definitely use a teammate or2. Anybody want to join me and help represent OS?

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Well took the plunge. Initially signed up for the 3 free months. Then went ahead and decided to renew for a year at $49.50 since promotion was ending today. So in total got 15 months for $49.50. Can't complain. Less then what I would have paid for Xbox Live for a year.
Ran my first race last night using a Xbox 360 Controller (picking up a Driving Force GT tonight). Overall wasn't bad. Was involved in two wrecks that I should have avoided. 1st one I just didn't slow down enough to react. 2nd one guy bumped me out of the way but I should have just moved up and gave him the position.
Anyway here's a video if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXGvk3Vn4ww Messed up setting in Sony Vegas so it made it darker then should be. And my audio volume needed adjusted as I couldn't hear other drivers. But overall a decent fun 1st race.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Just finished my 2nd race at USA Speedway this time with my DFGT. Holy Hell that was fun. Even if 3/4 of the field couldn't drive that track. Had a awesome run going in 7th with about 10 laps to go and over drive it into turn 1 and looped it around. Instead of doing the dumb thing and just throwing it in reverse and backing out onto the track, I done a tow back to the pits. After the tow and sitting in the pits I still came home 10th. So I'm still extremely pleased.
That was the most fun I've had in a long time with a video game.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
So, I guess iRacing just inked a deal with LeMans. Cool!
Now, with the Ring already signed, they need Monaco (don't think that's going to happen), haha.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
My problem on ovals is I just can't get the lap times some of the best drivers can, even at the level I'm at (high D). I get good finishes because there are worse drivers than me. At USA last night, I started 16th out of the pits. I lost it on lap 10 and got hit, but was clean after that and still managed to finish 8th. That's not because I was good, just a lot of terrible people on track. I've bought the K&N Chevy so I'm going to hope driving I'm something closer to what I'm accustomed to in games will get me more in a rhythm. I hate New Hampshire but a one mile speedway but it's a track I'm familiar with and I should be more used to braking and accelerating around it... or that's my hope.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Finished 4th in my NiS Fixed Kentucky race last night. The best part is I had 0 incidents. The question is should I run 3 time trials in the B car in order to get my A license? I am currently sitting at a 4.94 SR for my B.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Played for the first time in a few weeks today. Stuck with 4 street stock races on USA International and did 1 34 Coupe race on SoBo. I was in the top 2 splits(usually of 3 or 4) each time and every 2nd split I was top 5 with a 2nd place my latest race moments ago with the street stock, and every top split race I was near 8-12. Big difference in quality of opponents. Thankfully all the races were clean and nearly all of mine were incident free. I was battling for 3rd one race and had a guy come up and clip me when going for an overtake, but carried too much speed. I wasn't upset, but he apologized anyways. It was definitely a racing accident and nothing worth getting mad about. He tried, just couldn't do it and barely clipped my end enough to spin me. Unfortunately it was the 39th lap and I ended up finishing 9th I believe. That was actually the top split race, so I was proud to be so close to a podium finish in a top split.
Getting back into oval has been fun, even at the lower license levels. Racing is just so much fun for me.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
