Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Thanks. I'm tempted to run another later but I don't want to abuse it. When half the field is rookies and there are only a couple C's, B's, and A's doesn't feel the same, but now that I'm back in the 1100's, maybe the next field will be more competitive.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Well I was in the 5th split. I started second because only 7 cars qualified. Had a couple of early incidents that caused me to be on the end of the lead lap then I tried to be too aggressive and got cut off and smashed into another car. I wasn't sure whether to take the optional repairs (6 minutes as opposed to 30 sec for the required repairs) but I decided to play safe and take them. The guy I ran into didn't take the optional repairs and finished 8th I ended up 9 laps down and there were enough cautions for me to finish 16th, 5 laps down. The interesting part was that I was the #28 car out of 28.
Richmond was a very tough place to race simply because of how aggressive people get. It was my first long race in the Oculus Rift. I enjoyed it a lot. It can get real heart racing when you are in a long line of cars who are constantly trying to pass each other. Keep in mind that I don't use the virtual mirror anymore, only real mirrors. It did get a little uncomfortable after awhile but I think it was because I had it too tight. I readjusted during a late pitstop and it was fine the rest of the race.
Really looking forward to Chicagoland next week with the new surface model.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Yeah some reason I shut down the iracing background lol oops. Did some iracing first 30 laps. Got spun out on caution. Then slowed down for 2 people spinning in front of only to be launched from behind 30 feet into the air. Called it quits after that. Kinda bummed.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Here is my race from Thursday night's NiS-F race. The last 10 minutes or so were the most exciting.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I've heard people say that multiple grooves actually work at Chicagoland, so that will be interesting next week, if true.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Would be awesome if it's true, but I'll believe it when I see it. I've seen people say a few tracks are multi-groove now (Homestead being one), but so far I have yet to see any actual proof of it like a video or even screenshots.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
That was the worst race I've ever been in and I fixed about 8 minutes of collective damage throughout the race, but I ended up P13 and made it to 5,400 iRating, so I guess it was sort of a success.
Really awful race, though. Just terrible. 15 cautions for 75 laps...
I self-spun for the first time in a very long time and brought out the first caution (and damaged my car against the inside wall, though no one else was involved).Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Sounds like our races were pretty similar.
Despite over shooting my pit, a pit lane violation for speeding, spinning under caution while trying to enter pit road (Yay me), a bunch of damage due to rear ending people who checked up for wrecks, and my engine going boom (30+ minutes of required repairs at this point) with 22 laps left thanks to all the damage, I still managed to finish 15th and pick up 7 iRating. Hilarious part is had my engine not failed, I would have finished top 10. And we 'only' had 13 cautions for 65 laps.
I actually did enjoy the race for the most part. After my penalty for speeding, I managed to work myself back into the top 10 and was feeling decent until my engine damage.
I did have about 3-4 minutes of optional before my engine blew that I didn't fix. After the damage I was way slow down the straights, then I fixed some of it and found most of the speed back even though I was still slow. I wonder if fixing the rest of the damage would have saved my engine?Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
The guy I spot for and I learned to always take optional repairs. Back at Pocono he had like 5 minutes optional repairs. Not terrible, but under green, he was like "screw it, I'm going". Engine blew half a lap later. Would that have solved it? Maybe, but probably wasn't worth the risk to not do it if you're already out of contention.Comment

In any event here's my race. Lap 60 is when I got my speeding penalty and after that is when things probably get more enjoyable to watch.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I'd say repair your damage if possible, especially if it's front damage. Engines blowing up is a real problem. Sometimes it is even if you do get damage fixed.
Whether to give up a lap to repair damage or not is a tricky situation that kind of takes some nuance. There's no right answer there.Last edited by superjames1992; 09-14-2015, 02:09 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Here is my second race from Sunday night. Watch at your own risk. It's a mess, but ended with a good finish. It's also an example of why you shouldn't quit races after early misfortunes.
I had a dumb self-spin early on, though. Don't think I've done that since last year at Richmond.
