    Re: Shift 2 Unleashed Impressions

evidently 360 version has 4xMSAA and PS3 has MLAA.

the speculation is that the lighting engine is causing the shimmering and breaking the AA on 360 version, not sure about PS3

I shouldn't have to do that on a stock 135i (I've driven it!) or a stock GTR. The handling in this game is way worse than it should be. I drive a mostly stock 3800lb M5 and it feels like it's on rails. This game feels like garbage.

No you are not, In single player if you don't own it you can't drive it. If you are in an unranked online game you can drive the same cars that the host has. I now have 39 cars , 35 have the Works package, so when I host a game with my friends, I set the car setting to Identical and they can drive the same car as me even if they do not own it.

Thanks for the confirmation. Not sure why they would do that though. Maybe they're hoping people will pay for the dlc car packs.

To all my OS friends with the PC version, I have a fix for the controls that will make it playable with a controller, and I am almost done with a graphics fix that will increase your frame rate to 59 or higher, even when using fraps!

It will also completely remove the jaggies! I'll post images and a video soon and will then allow PM's for the files to replace to get this too work!

For all ATI users, update your Catalyst to 11.3 and I'll be back soon!

That's great!! The only thing that's been really bothering me is the input delay, if there's a fix for it the game will be much more enjoyable

Well consider the problem solved!!!! Here are the images from the beginning race, flawless win and not 1 wreck or scratch on the car. Controls are perfect and using default 360 controller configuration! I will upload the files to replace tomorrow!!! Also if you look at the images, you'll notice the graphics boost with less to no jaggies! I will put in the info text what to change in your graphics card ATI Katalyst with a (C - OS blocks the word with a C)and inside the game itself! Recording a video with fraps too that I'll be uploading and posting tomorrow....60fps!

I'm now 46% into my career, I own 39 cars, I'm a Maximum driver level 20. I still feel let down by the look of the game, but the racing is very competitive. At this point in my career I am having to race my *** off to get a win, and I've cranked the A.I. down from medium to easy. Very intense balls to the wall racing.

And why is that stupid *** above my avatar!!!! Yeah I know it's ***** 1st.

Looks great Behindshadows. I got the 360 version and it looks nowhere near as nice as the PC screens you posted. I hope someone was correct that the lighting or something is breaking the AA on the 360 and it can be patched. Its not bad looking but far from great.

I have used the wheel so far and really am not seeing all the twitchy handling that people are talking about. Maybe that is isolated to the controller as it was in the original version. Seem to be a big improvement to the handling and AI from the first so I am happy. Drifting is actually kind of fun as well - much more so than the original so I may even give that more of a go. Menu layout took a turn for the worse though. What a mess to do anything. Load times seem to have taken a bigger hit as well.

Lol, drifiting was terrible in the original because you couldn't drive straight in most cars.

Here's a basic tuning tip i found on the NFS Shift forums.

"Why the cars feel floaty are in the game and can be ***ed easily. For whatever reason when you buy and build a car the default spring rate settings are at their softest and the steering lock in the tuning section for the car is set to 20 which is way to low. I a**usted the steering lock to 25-28 and simply moved all the sliders for spring rates to the middle position. Doing this will eliminate about 90% of the floating and bring the cars handling to life".

This made a nice difference in handling for me.

I've been messing around in the setup and alliviated the problem a little. The problem now is not so much with the cars I own, it's with the cars "loaned" to compete in one given event, like hotlapping or those old vs new challenges, or elimination (BTW, great idea on this one, don't know if it was already on shift1, but I'm loving these races). Is there a *** for those?
