Re: NASCAR Thunder 2004 released today

I have a Dual-Shock type controller at home...I'm going to test that tonight. If it works with that, then I have a major beef with the game. That tells me that it suffers from console-port-itis, if it's set up for a dual analog gamepad.

Why, in this era of PC sim realism, a game would be designed with crappy wheel support, I have no idea.

Re: NASCAR Thunder 2004 released today

I will be firing up the XBOX version later today. From the reviews I have seen including EGM's, I can't believe that the framerate is as bad as you say. I mean unplayable, come on, EGM never even mentioned framerate problems. Not to mention impressions from the IGN boards which noted only some minor framerate drops.

Well let us know what you think. Slight pauses and dips in framerate is unacceptable for me. I have Nascar 2003 for the XBOX and it was smoother IMO. Try a fantasy track or Daytona and you'll see drops in the framerate and slight pauses.

If i'm wrong please let me know, maybe I have a problem with my XBOX.

Yeah PK it's a joke (XBOX), stay away from this one. I was expecting a dumb down version anyway but it looks god awful like a PS1 game. It comes with jaggies, it looks grainy and the framerate can't hold steady with lots of dips and pauses. It's a PS2 port to the max.

OTOH the PC version is stellar, not quite ready to dethrone NR2003 but it's knocking at the door. Yes in one years time it's improved that much. It even got the attention of Randy M.

Sad that EA keeps treating the XBOX like a step child when you have games like Rallisport 2 and Pro Race Driver 2 which both show off the power of the Xbox, sad.

                        <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I've got to respectfully disagree, Rodster. The game looks great in my opinion, and I haven't experienced any slowdown at all. Could it look better? Absolutely, but if you compare this to a PS1 game, you need to back up and step away from the crack pipe.

The game is much improved over last year's version in every way. The sense of speed is actually a lot better with this version.

As for the pc version, who cares? It doesn't approach the quality of Nascar Racing 2003, so why even mess with an inferior product? I've already got the best pc Nascar game, I want one that I can play on my consoles. With no new version of Heat planned, Thunder is it and I think it fits the bill quite nicely. I originally bought the PS2 version, but took it back yesterday once I realized that the online feature was such a joke. After picking up the Xbox version, I can say that it looks and plays noticeably better than the PS2 version.

So for anyone on the fence, I'd say rent the game because it's still a little on the arcade side, but damn fun to play anyway. If you have both systems, trust me the Xbox version blows the PS2 version away in terms of graphics, sound, and control. If you must have the decrepid online mode, remember, you can only play with one other human opponent. That's a joke and certainly not enough to warrant giving up the graphical and sound enhancements of the Xbox version.

It's not a true simulation, but it's getting closer. It looks better than NT 2003, so if you had that game, then you have a starting point with the graphics. It's a very fun and solid game and in no way resembles what Rodster said about it.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Well I respectfully disagree with you as well, and no I don't do drugs so that comment was uncalled for.

Maybe my XBOX has a problem but I can tell you that I have experienced lots of slowdowns and slight pauses in the game. If your XBOX game runs silky smooth i'm glad to hear and maybe it just due to my tired XBOX.

As for the PC version I agree with Randy M. that NT2004 is much improved and is worth a look considering it's much improved physics model, graphics and Career Mode. Is it NR2003 no and I never said they were equal but based on NT2004 for the PC I again agree with Randy that EA has begun to close the gap. Hopefully NT2005 will make further strides as well.

It's a very fun and solid game and in no way resembles what Rodster said about it.
