Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion

Finished 8th in the season opener after a damn hard driven race.

The Force India really does lack some rear end down force, I was slideways way too many times to count up to the first stop I was riding around back in about 12th just minding my own business waiting till the first stop.

Also, the pit stop bug from last year is gone, happy to report that.

Rest of the race was a torrent pace really. I ran alot of practice laps on worn out tires to try and get a feel for how the car was going to react in the second half of the race, and that paid off big time.

With about 3 or 4 to go I noticed I was catching about 5 cars really really fast and I thought "Oh great, the AI really does suck again" thinking I would jump from 8th to 4th. Not the case.

A few cars got a lap down and that was who I was catching, I was in so much shock I damn near blew the final turn heading to the main straight

Ended up having a heated battle with Sutil for 8th spot that went down to the wire. I think I beat him out by about 4 or 5 carlengths.

All in all, after one race. This game is way more advanced then it was last year. The A.I. is definitely harder and it will take a challenge to beat them. They race you more aggressively as well and fight you for position. As one of the Williams damn near blocked me down to the grass heading into turn 3.

      Loving it so far

I have not found any as of yet, but I haven't started a career either. I have just been spending track time so far.

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion

im loving the game also, I have noticed 2 little bugs

          1) I am still getting a little stutter as I leave my garage to head to the track, happen only at some tracks. Its only enough that if you blink you would miss it. kind of a little graphic hiccup but I would say its not a big deal at all. Im on the PS3. Like I was saying I dont know if this even falls in the bug category, lol

          2) I had jenson buttons steering wheel go kind of transparent at a practise session in montreal. I exited the session and went back in and it was fine.

Would it be okay to open a bug thread bluengold34_OS? maybe keep this thread clean for impressions only.

Does anybody else get the message that they cant register at the codemasters forums?

          Cheers guys

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion

Picked up my copy today but won't get to play until late tonight bc of work.

Just had a few ?'s for those that have played it bc I'm impatient. How do the cars feel? Last year the car would just snap in the middle of a corner and would be impossible to correct without spinning(at least with a controller). Are the cars easier to catch and correct when they start sliding in this game?

And how does the AI behave? I have heard in one review that they pretty much won't go off the racing line to pass, they will just ram into the back of you.

One thing I forgot to mention as well, You really can tell when your tires are cold versus when they have the right temperature in them. For me practicing at Malaysia the first lap and a half was really skiddish, the next few laps though I could tell I had the grip to do what I wanted to do.

It's a very nice touch overall to compliment the game.

Read my review of my first career race a few posts up. (well back on page 2 now) I think it touches on both questions.

Jeremy, If you want to open a bugs/glitches thread...that is fine bro. I have a feeling it might not get a lot of use though(lol).

Hitch, normally I race everything on my PC so I can use my Logitech wheel, but I have this one for the 360. The car handles amazingly well with a controller, but you have to understand the art of feathering the throttle. If you do that, and spend sone seat time....they handle like a dream.

As far as the AI not giving you space, I would disagree with that. They race you hard(as they should) but they have given be space when I had the optimum line.

cool, Im not seeing anything that really stands out in terms of bugs, which is great.

Has anybody else ran offline on the marbles yet? very cool how they stick to the tyres and loose significant grip

Sorry about that, somehow just completely skipped over that post. But, sounds great. Good to hear there is some good wheel to wheel racing.

Yeah, you really do have to master throttle control when you have TCS turned off.

I mentioned above about having to spend time dialing in your wheel. Maybe not....it seems that at least for my DFGT wheel, the settings are maybe backwards. I switched back to the default setting (I read a post on Codemaster's forum that says all default wheel settings where tailored for that wheel) and everything drives nicely.

These cars handle well. There doesn't seem to be much "snap oversteer" and you can catch it. Takes some seat time to learn, but it's not all that hard after you get the hang of it. Also nice...each car has it's own handing characteristics. You can tell the Ferrari from the Red Bull, etc.

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion

Wow, Malaysia was a high and low race.

Somehow put the little Force India up to 3rd on the starting grid after a banzai qualifying lap that somehow I kept from dumping it off into the fence

Race was totally different. By lap one I had dropped to 6th, Remember that Banzai lap? yeah it totally bit me in the *** during the race. Could not keep the car from being loose throughout my first stint.

Pitstops came and I dropped back to 9th just looking at hanging in there and grabbing a handful of points. Well, that all changed when I got off the racing line to defend my spot from a charging Williams (cant remember now which one it was) and ended up going off into the gravel pit on the 2nd to last turn there.

Tried like hell to get back up to 11th (where I needed to finish to gain xp) got back to 12th.

Whenever I would drive it off the normal racing line I noticed alot of buildup on my tires and it affected me for a short period of time.

Man, I wish this team would invest in some Rear Down force, I could be kicking some major *** by now

Important thing is I have finished ahead of Sutil both races.

Now, onto China and see what I cant get there

Hot damn, just finished an incredible race at Interlagos. Did a 20% and finished 3rd, but lost 1st place on a bad pit stop. I was right on their *** on the last Lap, but couldn't overtake 2nd. Lost by 1.7 seconds.

The pit stops are so full of life, with craziness going on everywhere. That race topped anything I had in the 2010 title.

my 50% race in Canada was lost in the pits. Nico rosberg and I had quite a fight for a dozen or so laps
