Im pretty new to F1 so dont worry... your not the only one having trouble. The one race I did was on medium difficulty. I had TC and ABS on Full. Brake Assist Off. Gearbox Auto. I use a controller on 360 too.
I was having trouble staying on the track at first. Takes some patience and real finesse to go fast... overall it just takes practice. It took me nearly 2 hrs of practice on Melbourne just to get a lap under 1:30. You cant overdrive the corners... in like a gentleman; out like a lion. The race line is your best friend as its very accurate to which line your should take in the corners. Move your line up/down in the corner even by a half a car length and you could really mess up that sector completely.

That Team VVV guy is pretty awesome at showing off the game.

I use the TV-Pod view, with the cockpit view I feel too low and having to look mostly through the steering wheel.

If you guys are new to the game dont be afraid to run with full traction control at first. These cars are beasts and you really have to learn throttle management to control them.

I love the way the car feels this year, much more control, while being able to lose control very easily as well. I've had to dump a lot of rear wing into my setups as the backend is super tough to control this year. Also, the brakes seem to be more touchy, and will lockup a lot easier. I have been using the soft setting and that helps a lot.

I run with all assists off, except for medium TC until I can get my throttle control under wraps.

As for the AI, they are really slow on the second setting. I'm going to bump the next race to professional and see how much their pace increases. I hope it's a considerable amount.

All in all though, this game is a blast this year

Yeah ready for this work day to be over... so I can get some practice in myself. I use the TV Pod view. I tried the cockpit and it messes with my depth perception entering corners and I found myself overdriving the corners way too often.

If you or anyone else for that matter wanna race or even do a co op championship let me know. I should be on by 6pm central time!

I used the T-pod cam in 2010 and again this year...great all around view, and like Brew said, much easier to gauge your corners/kerbing.

I only ran some laps at Melbourne last night but as others have said, it feels really great this year. This version is much more tactile than 2010 and you 'feel' the car MUCH better, it's much more organic and realistic. Graphics have a subtle upgrade from what I've seen so far, but I guess the rain races look exceptional this year according to reviews.

I use a controller. I like to use medium TC to start for now, auto-braking off, racing line on (damn straight! LOL).

F1 2010's gonna get traded in...no need to keep it. I'm already spoiled by 2011's handling.

This game looks solid, but i am completley new to simulation racing games. So my question is what would be my best way to "learn" the game? Turn all the assists on? Hell i am not even familar on what the different wing angles will do to the car...ha. I would just be using the 360 controller. Will that hamper my experience? Does the game teach you about a F1 race car or should i browse the net?

Sorry for all the questions, but want the advice before i buy....ty

Unfortunately, this game is not going to hold your hand and teach you about F1. If you are unfamiliar with something like DRS or KERS, google it. As for gameplay, turn on the assists and learn the courses. Knowing the track like the back of your hand is more important than any wing angle or suspension setting.

                        Hi southriver.

I'm a virtual know-nothing on F1. I got F1 2010 last year just because it seemed cool and sim-like, and a nice alternative to NASCAR, Forza, NFS, etc. I had to learn about F1 on the 'net and watched a couple of races after I got the game.

F1 2010 and 2011 are not F1 neophyte friendly in the sense that there's no tutorials or 'classes' on aero and setup, rules, history of F1, etc. It assumes you have a basic knowledge of the rules and all else...this is not necessarily a bad thing as it makes the F1 fans happy, and they can jump right in and do their thang.

For the games, just set it up with the racing line on, auto transmission, traction control on medium or full and try it out and see how you do. Start off by doing time trials at a track like Melbourne; turn laps and adjust the game to your abilities to where you can have fun and turn decent lap times. Then try a race weekend.

I use a controller and it works very well (a wheel would be optimal, but no good way to set one up where I play). Use your brakes and feather that throttle...if you mash it coming off a turn too early you could spin out. When using the controller, I 'squeeze' the triggers for brake and acceleration going in and out of turns, you need to use finesse. This isn't an arcade racer.

Give it a go! It's a really cool game, and you'll find yourself spending hours just trying to shave a second off your best time and attacking those tracks!

I have been having a great time. F1 and hockey are my fav sports so I love it when this time of year comes. Going back and forth between nhl 2011 and F1 2011. Really lost track of time today playing F1 I started my career with force india and am 3 races in. I am playing on 100% race distance. After dinner its time for some more F1 and maybe a game of hockey, lol. I kind of have the urge now that im in a F1 game type of a mood to play some GP4 also.

being a long time nascar fan (hence my username) I hadnt really put much effort into anything related to F1. well this year is different. picked up f1 2011 and im going to be honest, I flat out love it. Its difficult and thats what I like about it the most. The hardest part is learning the tracks. Im so used to ovals and the two road courses that sprint cup runs that its hard to learn these tracks. Ovals are very forgiving, not to mention EA did a pretty horrible job of physics over the years. The guys at codemasters did an incredible job with pretty much everything about this game. You misjudge a turn and your off the track and into the sandtrap. You slow down too early for a turn when you could have sailed right through it, the driver behind you is right on your tail. They also did a great job with the AI. They are aggressive at first but sort of settle in like how you see it in real life. The AI races you clean but if they get agitated they will bump you and sometimes even wreck you. There are actual crashes from the AI which is hard to get in any recent nascar game unless you trigger the wreck yourself. The overall presentation of the game is top notch. Im incredibly impressed and I really hope at some point a nascar game is made by codemasters!

Yes -- NASCAR and Activision should be turning over the license to Codemasters after NASCAR 2011. Codemasters is the only company that can probably pull off what really needs to happen with a NASCAR game.
