Woke up to this story. Sad sad sad. Thoughts and prayers go out to the young mans family who lost his life.

Never really cared for Tony Stewart but hate to see the guy involved in this. After seeing the video and reading some comments from some in attendance seems as if this could have been avoided. ME personally I would never have gotten out of the car. Stay tuned

100% agreed. It looked as if it could've been avoided, not sure why the kid would get out of his car in that situation. I mean, it was just a short heat race I think, just deal with it afterwards.

Hopeful everything turns out in Stewart's favor, and obvious prayers for the young man and his family.

Tragic mistake by the kid to walk out onto the middle of the track like that. Stewart definitely gunned his engine as he went by but I can't believe he intentionally hit him like some are saying. I doubt Stewart saw him until the last second and either hit the throttle to get by him or to scare him and the car got loose and hit him. Hopefully it wasn't the latter.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Ward, Jr and his family.

I am hoping another camera angle will show up for a better view at Tony's line and just exactly where Ward was in relation to the car.

This!!! I'm sure the investigators have this and will make a determination.

I don't personally believe TS intentionally hit the guy but him gunning on the gas as some say could cause problems for him legally down the road. Again I just hope it was what it appears to be and that being a tragic accident.

It looked to me like by the time Tony saw him it was too late. Ward should have never walked that far out on to the race track. Had he stayed next to his own car and made a gesture to Stewart as he passed by he'd still be alive. Tragic.

Yea I'd like to think that he just hit the gas because he thought Ward was going to do something or he realized too late late how close he was and just tried to get away quick and wasn't thinking about the back end going up the track towards him.

Looking at it again the car didn't fishtail until after the driver was struck and caught under the right rear wheel. It looks to me like Stewart was holding his line and hit the throttle at the last second but the driver was the one moving toward Stewart, not Stewart swerving into him. I don't see there being any case against Stewart unless another angle shows something a lot different. Just a terrible tragedy and a mistake by the kid to get out of his car and confront Stewart in the middle of the track.

From looking at video, I don't see anything to suggest Stewart "gunned it" or drove towards him or anything like that. Ward walked right down on to the track. He was within feet of the 45 car that went by him just before Stewart. Stewart didn't appear to be going any faster. Like someone else said, the car fishtailed after he hit the guy. I said this in the other thread, I'm not giving Stewart a free pass and saying he's not at fault, but cars were clearly going around the track at caution speed. Everyone wasn't stopped and Stewart was the only one and made a beeline for Ward. Ward walked right down into traffic. I'm going to guess most drivers don't expect other drivers to walk right down in front of cars in the racing groove, whether you wrecked them or not. Just not sure what to think here.
