    Re: Nascar Heat 2 Impressions.....

I'll never understand why developers and publishers of racing games don't release new titles simultaneously with the start of the season for that licensed series, when interest is at a peak.

Can you imagine if Madden was released in December and The Show was released in July? Yeah, me neither.

Yet we get new F1, WRC, MotoGP and NASCAR games midway through the season, if not later.

    Stupid.

To make matters worse, Heat comes out the within the same timeframe as six or seven other non-racing sports titles, when gamers may be strapped for cash and forced to make a decision. I'll never understand the logic behind this.

        Re: Nascar Heat 2 Impressions.....

The racing is fantastic in terms of oval racing. I really think they did a really good job with it. It's the first console nascar game where I've personally seen the AI run multiple lines around the track. I think that to get a truly good experience out of it, you definitely have to do longer races though.

Most fun I had was in the truck series. Making the playoffs in the trucks was fun, and then trying to figure out where the rest of the championship contenders were running while at Homestead was pretty fun too. As a nascar fan, I can definitely say that it's worth the money you're going to pay for it - we haven't had this good of a game in a while.

What's lacking in the game is just depth. There's very little there. They've nailed the racing imo (of course there are things to improve) and they just need to add to the off-track activities. Within career mode especially. Developing your team, your pit crew - upgrade motor, chassis etc. like in the old Nascar Thunder games that EA used to put out.

I finally just picked this up and ran some practice at Atlanta with my Thrustmaster T150 Pro...
Question, I've read where if you use a good set up, the game becomes too easy even against the highest (105%) challenge, yet I am having serious issues holding the inside line... is there some "Middle of the road" setup where the game is still a really good challenge but also gives me a bit more grip on the inside?

For one of you more knowledgable racers, what will adding wedge or decreasing wedge do and does it help in this instance or is it a tire pressure thing?
          I am using stability assist.
          Thanks

You cannot edit setups if you have stability assist ON.

Running without stability assist, the default setups are way too tight. I usually remove a bunch of wedge (down to the 47.5 to 49 range), stiffen the right rear spring 2 or 3 clicks and soften both front springs by 2 to 3 clicks. Then I practice and tweak from there. I run championship mode with 102 difficulty and with this setup approach I have yet to run away with any races.

I run mostly between 5th and 20th with the occasional top 5 or win and the occasional F-up that leaves me finishing in the back. AI qualifying times are quite quick so I often start between 20th and 34th or so.

It can be fairly easy (although quite enjoyable as the AI is pretty good in how they race) to get up the field until you get near your car's "natural" place in the running order. But you see that in real life as well where good cars start towards the back of the field and come back rather quickly.

Then it's pretty much a dog fight with the few cars that are near you in performance. Gain a couple spots then lose a couple, and so on. It can go on for dozens of laps. Overall, it's really enjoyable racing.

Adding wedge makes the car tighter(harder to turn), lowering the wedge makes it looser(easier to turn). Also springs, tire pressure, brake bias and all that other stuff can effect the handling of the car. Do a google search for what each thing does.

                Re: Nascar Heat 2 Impressions.....

I recently picked the game up, just playing with a DualShock 4. I also have some trouble sticking to the inside line, but figure I just need to slow down a little bit.

Have never before been into NASCAR, and not sure I've played a NASCAR game since PS1, if ever. But I've been more into racing games as a whole, and like the racing in NASCAR Heat...I like that I'm generally in the mix with other cars the entire time (versus F1, or GT, where cars are far more spread out), and think the stage and caution system really adds a lot of strategy in.

I don't think the tracks are as interesting as road or street courses, but the bumper-to-bumper racing brings a different kind of excitement/intensity into it.

So yes, a 2018 Roster Update, or Season Update, whatever you want to call it is a great thing. I like that they do that but why make people pay for a season update to the previous game and release a new game months later? Like they have a chance to show that sports games don't need yearly releases by continuing to do season updates every other year, two years, etc. Yet they release a new game anyway. Other than a cash cow, don't get the sense in it.

I just really wish they announce that the 2018 Update will be it, along with some patches and that NASCAR Heat 3 will come out Feb 2019. Makes no sense to release the game when the NASCAR season is almost over.

I too disagree with their release schedule. I guess they want to take advantage of the playoff hype, but I have more hype, personally, this time of year. Plus releasing in the fall just kills their potential sales opportunities with all the other sports releases.

There's a new 1.2 GB version 1.07 update out. Guessing it's mostly if not all just the foundation for the 2018 season update due out tomorrow.

Question... I am racing 50% races and wondering what you guys are running for tire wear and fuel. I plugged in 4X but that suggested pitting every 14 laps, seemed a bit frequent...

I am not doing the stages given the pitting logic...so old school race is 3X or 2X suggested?

                            thanks

At 50 percent race distance, your tire wear and fuel should be 2X to be realistic. Half the distance, twice the wear and consumption.

The only time I would run 4X is if your races were 25 percent distance or shorter.

Drive it like you stole it, dude!

Picked this up today digital because I've had the itch for a few weeks for a NASCAR game. Been a while since I had a NASCAR game and the last one I had left me disappointed a bit other than having fun creating cars. I came into this with tempered expectations and have enjoyed what bit I played today as a less than casual NASCAR fan and player. I like the career system of the hot seat rides to earn contract offers. This'll be a nice change of pace from the other games I play.
