Looks like race payouts are going up and more single player events are on the way: https://blog.playstation.com/2022/03...l/#sf254892831
That message should’ve gone out a week ago. Crazy that it took all this backlash to push them to this decision.Comment

Hopefully there is more to the reward structure than what was mentioned in the notesComment

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
My second round of the Nations cup was a bust. Had a decent qualifying time managing to start in 8th. The race got off to a good start but as the pack was still tight heading into the 3rd sector, got tapped on the back right bumper and got spun out. That dropped me to 18th. Could only manage to recover up to 15th or 16th place. It was the last race of the night so i couldn't give it another go.
Edit: Just read the update notes
This should be an interesting update. The addition of car selling will also help things. Since you don't have to keep cars for the game to recognize that you've collected it. That's another source of income. I'm fairly optimistic we are headed in the right direction. Its my understanding GT Sport was really bad at launch but turned it around so why can't the same be for GT7. Its not like the game outside of payouts is bad. Also I'll gladly take a million credits. Now if they just adjust the odds on the roulette tickets I'll be golden.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
I haven't played since my mini rant on Sunday. Will need to see how the math shakes out on this, but from the dev notes I'm not sure that this is really the right step to take. It's absolutely a positive that higher end races will have their reward payout increased, which might stop people from spamming 1 race for an hour but it doesn't address the overall economy. If the biggest payout before was 90k (I think?), then making it 180k on a 10 minutes race doesn't really do much. It's only marginally more efficient then 52k over 3.5 minutes, and so you're still looking at an insane time sink to get those exotic cars that we can't get in real life.
Hopefully there is more to the reward structure than what was mentioned in the notes
Reducing credit payouts for World Circuits races would incentivize people to try the other things in the game which offer rewards; for example: license tests, missions, circuit experiences, and Sport mode all offer credits and/or car rewards. Given how content-light the game is in World Circuits compared to past GT games, pushing people away from grinding races by making grinding so tasking and towards engaging with other game modes until that World Circuits section is more thoroughly filled out makes sense to me at least.
The major optics problem which correctly caused all the outrage and PD was correctly raked over the coals for was the low credit payouts in conjunction with the "buy credits for real money" button. That one thing alone is what makes it all feel so scummy.
The one thing that doesn't feel planned to me is the 1,000,000 free credits for the prolonged server outage. That is a nice gesture of goodwill IMO.Comment

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
I don't buy it, but I also admit that game companies have forced me into a pretty heavy cynical attitude for any game that features MTX. To me this feels like a reaction to backlash from the community. I'm certainly not an insider though so I could very well be wrong.
If any of that is true though then it just comes down to poor communication from PD. If they came out from the onset and said "In order to prevent players from focusing on 1 area of the game. We will initially set payouts for circuit races low and then increase them after release to encourage players to spend time exploring all areas of the game" or when they released their 1.06 notes which told players they were nerfing payouts, if they also announced what the future of rewards would look like (similar to how today's announcement is for a patch that isn't going live for at least a week) then I think the community would have received the reward structure a lot better. I don't think it would have completely fixed the outrage since it still seems like an odd strategy to force players into a certain direction at launch only to change it a month later, but I do think people would generally be more accepting of it.
Overall though the rewards/time-played just needs to be balanced to be more player friendly, or at least make roulettes more rewarding. If I understand the dev notes correctly, something like the World GT Series Championship which right now offers payouts of $60k for first place and I think $150k for coming in first overall will have it's total payout increased from $450k to $900k. That's a big jump over its current status, but considering it takes close to an hour to run that full series then it's still not offering that much of an improvement over the current Panam race that gives $52k in 3.5 minutes. More fun to run 5 separate tracks that require thinking vs 1 track over and over sure. You're still committing yourself to an almost fruitless grind though. You're still spending upwards of 2 hours to purchase and upgrade just 1 $1M car, which by my count there are around 54 of, as well as an additional 13 that are at least $2M which will each take 3 or more hours to do the same for.
edit - I really don't want to or mean to be so critical of this game. I'm not a gearhead . I am a car lover though, and games like GT and Forza have always been among my favorites because they allow me to somewhat experience that passion.Last edited by KSUowls; 03-25-2022, 06:09 PM.Comment

Making video games is hard, and things don't happen at a blink of an eye.
Honestly? With how rapidly these changes are being delivered, I would not be surprised at all to learn that launching the game with low payouts and increasing that shortly after launch as more content was ready to deliver into the game was always the plan.

No one is saying that they needed to make those changes in a heartbeat. It was the fact they were silent for over a week before this update. If they had a good company that cared about customer service, there’s literally a 0% chance it takes that long. You’ve clearly never been in customer service, which is fine, but I have for a long time and the customer is always right. It’s as simple as that. Without the customer you have absolutely nothing. Their silence for a week is just evidence of how little they care about their customers. You can defend them all you want but it’s customer service 101.
Imagine going to a really expensive restaurant. A place that you only go to maybe once every few months or only on special occasions. You sit down have some cocktails and apps, and everything is going great. Then the entrees come and they’re terrible. You ask to see the manager and they proceed to tell you, “Sorry, that’s just how we do things here.” Then you ask for another side of ketchup and they tell you that’s a $2 charge 🤯. You finish your meal and pay your $200. You then go ahead and tell all your friends how bad the service was and how the management team didn’t really care about their customers. After the next week the word starts to spread about how badly they treated you and they realize uh oh maybe we messed up. So they call you up, now over a week after you’ve already been thoroughly disappointed, and try to give you a peace offering. So they give you a $20 gift card to THEIR OWN restaurant for your trouble, even though you paid $200….Last edited by tc020791; 03-26-2022, 08:44 AM.Comment

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
So how do points actually work for the online cup races? I can see why I'm first locally because I'm one of only 3 driving Mitsubishi in Michigan. More specifically the manufacturing rank as on this screen it says I'm 24th amongst Mitsubishi drivers but if I go to the breakdown screen it shows 37th. Even if I were to take away players who didn't complete the second round that would only make me 27th.17fc6cef7a572-screenshotUrl.jpeg

I was on the fence for a bit: GT7, or Grid Legends. Legends will probably have the shorter support window, so that's what I'll go with. Too, I can pick up GT7 cheaper as a Hits, once Polyphony gets its act together.
But, man...did you ever think we'd see the day when, between two related sports games, the one with no aggressive MTX, would be published by ELECTRONIC FREAKING ARTS?!Comment

Bleh, first race of Manufactures Cup Test Season 2 was 3 laps on Nürburgring. That was rough plus the 2 laps of qualifying, talk about a slog. Went with Renault this time around.

Very frustrating how slowly the used cars turn over and become available…I’m waiting every day for the turn over time then when I check maybe one or two change if I’m lucky…sometime there is no change and I just get cars that go to either low availability or sold out. I think the turn over should be a lot faster and make more cars available too. Would definitely help keep the game fresh.

Yeah it’s weird. When the game dropped they were changing atleast 1 car in there every like 12 hours. I think they realized it wasn’t fair for people who only hop on every couple days or so. According to their memo last week though, the April patch, or a later one, is supposed to bring more cars to both the used car lot and legends car lot. So instead of 12 cars in the used car lot, or whatever the number is atm, it’ll be more like 20.Last edited by tc020791; 04-03-2022, 10:49 AM.Comment
