Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
Totally understand halting the game for preservation of save data. When you have an online enabled game which enables people to buy things for money, data integrity is all you have. You lose that, you are done.
As to the payout changes: I understand the authorial intent here, both in making sure people are not playing one race over and over (I just finished the Cafe campaign as was not looking forward to playing one rally race over and over, I now won’t feel pressured to do this) and also making sure that rare cars feel rare. Additionally, the GT games have generally always been very grindy, for better or worse?
At the same time, absent further elaboration from PD about their future race event plans, the obvious forward presence of payable currency in GT7 looms over this game’s entire economy and it is difficult to not feel cynical about the specific changes made in that context.Comment

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
To preface, I did not participate in any of the more efficient races prior to this patch. The truck race at Daytona was the only one that I really grinded out, I have probably done that one 10 times. So, I wasn't exactly benefitting from the old payouts.
Overall I agree that rare cars should feel rare, and I don't really look forward to grinding out 1 race for hours. So, from that perspective it's not a bad thing to adjust game economy to prevent players from wanting to just grind out 1 race. There is also a certain element of grind that has always existed in these games so it isn't something entirely unique either.
However, it did already seem like the grind was particularly intrusive. I wouldn't say that I have been power gamer on GT7, but I have played it every day since release outside of yesterday when none of us could play. I haven't been ultra conservative with savings, but I haven't been loose with spending either. I have stayed around 700k-1m lately, and that means there are still like 15% of cars that I can't outright buy (not including the many that are just within what I could afford but would completely wipe out my bank). Many of those cars are timed exclusives by invitation. All of this with being an above casual player for 2 weeks.
So, my perspective my be a bit different as a completely "offline" player. I have no idea how the slightly faster credits that you could previously get were impacting multiplayer races, but for me it was already going to take a couple of months to acquire all the cars that I wanted even assuming that I kept up my current pace on a newly released game and started to play some of the more efficient races.
Hopefully the future race event plans will offset this, but I agree. The optics are bad.Comment

So happy that the game is working again. However, I am now curious to see which manufacturers you guys are selecting for the upcoming online championships starting soon. For me personally, I usually didn't bother doing the Nations cup from GTS, and I am mostly focused on the manufacturers cup for now.
Just in case, you are curious to know which manufacturer I ended up picking Genesis as my manufacturer of choice. In the deep forest time trials, I ended up with a 1:28.9 in the Group 3 version with Manual shifting and Traction control on three. I could probably try again tomorrow to better that time but at least I wasn't horribly off the pace like the daily races that I attempted to qualify for last week!"Either the car is stationary, or it's on the move." Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
I chose Dodge for the manufacturers cup because I am a man-child who likes Vipers and I will not apologize for that lol.
That said, every time I touch the Sport mode so far it is a humbling experience. I never really got into car setups and tuning in these games, and I pay for it every time I log on right now.
As an example, I tried the first Alsace race in Sport mode, the one with the 78 HP limitation. My Mini Cooper started out literally ten seconds slower than the fastest leaderboard time in Group E. After about fifteen minutes of careful upgrade selection and tuning I did manage to drop that gap down to seven seconds, but I’m obviously still well off the pace and far away from an optimal build.Comment

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
Just finished the cafe menu, it was a cool concept but fairly short as a campaign. I still have to get gold for most of the license tests and do missions and stuff so there's plenty of racing left for me.
-Now I'm really intrigued at how they handle updates as this really is a hybrid of old GT and GT Sport. I would have preferred a more traditional GT campaign but they've given us a lot to do and Sport mode is okay I'm not usually one for multiplayer but I like it here.
-I'm wondering if the cafe has a future use as 39 is a weird number to end on.
-Music Rally needs more songs but I'm stuck on song 5 right now, so not a priority lol
-Barring anything crazy this will definitely end up in my most played games wrap up.
-MtX I hate as much as everyone else but they really aren't intrusive here IMO. Seems unless you have an extreme case of wanting to be first to car "catch 'em all" and FOMO you'll be fine. Changing the payout and not being able to sell cars might seem harsh but it's feels like wanting to preserve the longevity and economy of the game as much as it does for getting extra money.
- Damn this is a good looking game.
- Unlikely but i really hope they reconsider the always online for the offline stuff.
Overall I'm happy with my purchase it's not perfect but it's got enough going for it to keep me invested for a while. Now it's time for me to Git Gud so i can beat all of ya'lls times.
Took completing the menu for a 6 star ticket but I finally managed a big payout.17fa3df809492-screenshotUrl.jpeg

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
Just finished the cafe menu myself.
I really could have done without that ending sequence of popups, but otherwise it was a pretty fun "campaign"
I'm half way through the IA license with everything gold. IA-5 is tough, I can consistently get 28.4, but I need 28.2 for gold.
I got a car on my 6* gift from beating the cafe. I would have preferred the gold so I could buy my Invitation Porsche that expires in a couple of days. The 911 is my dream car IRL, so I will have to grind out some races to get that one.
To copy jrnlgrn for final thoughts on the game.
Graphics - I complained early on about a couple of cutscenes which received absolutely no attention from the design team, but outside of those few instances the graphics were really solid throughout.
Gameplay - The cars drive great. Maybe a little too much oversteer, but they all felt fun. There is enough difference between each car to make each of them unique. I actually prefer the road cars over the high powered racing cars, but that's not unusual for me in these types of games. The cafe menu probably took a little too long to get to interesting cars, but overall I was happy how it forced me to use a variety of cars.
Car Selection - Solid but disappointing. There are something like 450 cars which is a solid number, but compared to prior games in the series (and the genre) it's a bit lacking. Most notably missing are a number of newer/current generation cars. The C8 corvette (released in 2019), the 992 911 (released in 2018, the G82 M4 (unveiled Summer 2019), and any version of the M2 to name a few. I am pretty confident that we will see these cars down the road in the form of premium DLC, but...
Price - I'll never be happy that the price was $70 while the game also features a seemingly predatory MTX scheme (see above for Car Selection). That being said, I'm not unhappy with my purchase. I feel like I've already gotten a lot of value out of it, and I'll probably continue to play this off and on until Forza Motorsport 8 hopefully releases in the fall. I do feel like I got more value out of prior games in the series though.
Overall - Solid/fun driving game for the enthusiast. The pricing and the lack of current gen cars at release are both something to be wary of. It's the first true simulator style racing game to be released since Forza Motorsport 7 in late 2017 though. So, it would be hard not to recommend for any car enthusiast.Last edited by KSUowls; 03-19-2022, 06:48 PM.Comment

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display
So the 1994 McLaren F1 just appeared in the Hagerty shop. 18,500,000 credits.
For some perspective: the single largest race purse I can find in the game at the moment is 90,000 (any single race in the World GT Series; 60,000 purse + 30,000 clean race bonus). You would have to win such a race cleanly 206 times to earn enough credits for the F1. At ten minutes a race, that's over 34 hours of track time.
Alternatively, you have the option to purchase 2,000,000 in-game credits at a time for $20. So the car in the video game is valued at $185 real-life money, nearly three times the value of Gran Turismo 7 itself.
What in the blue hell is this lunacy? Who gave this pricing strategy the go-ahead? This is literally the most audacious in-game purchasable item I have seen in any video game at all ever. This is so well far beyond unacceptable that it is insulting. I hope for and fully expect an uproar early next week over such ridiculous price gouging.Comment
