You're right. You can still find the occasional good match, and not everyone has the maxed out guys. But once you do run into the 100 power guys in an online quick match or tournament you might as well take the controller out of your hands. Even if you get back the shot they will still find a way to blast a winner. Like I said, it's not real at all for guys to hit 100 mph off both sides without any UEs. If there were UEs online it would be ok, but guys can crap up the timing w/ seemingly little penalty and still hit winners. I've seen shots where I know guys mistimed the swing, but still hit winners b/c of the lack of UEs online.

That and the fact that even on the rare occasions that I do get those guys tired, it has no affect, are holding the online part of the game back. I still love the game offline and when I do find a good match online it's fun, but it's frustrating that the max power guys can still dominate, which is what the devs said they were trying to get rid of by adding the playing styles.

"Please wait...the game is currently finding the best opponent for you..." 5 minutes later... "Please wait...the game is currently finding the best opponent for you...". This has happened to me 5 times today. Really hope they fix whatever the heck the problem is for connecting online.

seriously, what's worse is i dont want to take the loss, i want to wait for it to just say "no suitable matchup found" so i switch over to my cable to watch something while i wait while checking periodically, 20 minutes later it's still going, i check again 10 minutes later.......apparently they found a match and i wasnt paying attention so the other guy won 3-0

and as far as power stats go.....i dont mind cause i can get it back, but the problem is, the other guy who's got 90+ power but let's say 66 backhand rating.....he would fire a backhand down the line somehow....if your stroke rating is that low you should make a lot of errors or at least make him hit over softly.

Haven't bought the game yet but plan to within the next 2 days. I played the demo on hard difficulty and have gotten where I have beaten Federer with Nadal 5 times straight now and am winning like 7-4, 7-3 on the Clay and it was a little bit closer when playing on Hard surface. So my question is if the Very Hard difficulty is cheesy or not for the CPU, I played TS3 a lot 2 years ago and I think I was a pretty good player and the skills are starting to come back when playing the demo. So will I enjoy Very Hard?

Very Hard is fair, the CPU doesn't make many mistakes and will capitalize if you are out of position or don't force them into difficult shots, not cheesy at all. You really need to focus on getting your timing on swings down if you want to win though as you have to be on-point to get winners.

I've actually gotten to the point where I am beating the CPU on Very Hard everytime unless it's a drastic mismatch then it's still about 50/50. One of these days I have to get around to unlocking Expert difficulty. I've been playing online recently and have run into good competition to keep me interested in the game.

Anyone play Expert difficulty yet? If so how did you fare?

I'm at level 7 and can't win on Very Hard yet. Typically I go down 6-2, 6-0 or 6-1, 6-1.

But it's not cheap at all and I even mildly enjoy the beatings. Much more satisfying losing like that in this game than losing in a comparable fashion in other sports games, imo.

This is the exact reason I traded the game in. I got bored with the career mode after a couple of seasons, and the multiplayer aspect is a borderline-disaster. Even with a Level 14 guy, I couldn't play anyone but Level 20 maxed-out superstars and I'd be lucky to win a point in a match. It was just ridiculous.

It's really too bad the online game is so unbalanced. TOP SPIN 2 was much better in this regard and substantially more fun online.

Re: Top Spin 4 Impressions/Questions Thread

I hope the patch comes soon. Online is unplayable right now b/c of the utter lack of UEs. Basically every rally is a contest to see who can make the most angles. Not having to worry about UEs regardless of timing sucks and makes it too easy to just bash away. And the topspin invasion/monster defense skill is overpowered.

To fix online 2K needs to somehow make it so that guys can hit UEs more frequently. They also need to make speed and stamina matter, so that the 18 OB/2 DB guys can't dominate. This game was supposed to be balanced so that all skills could succeed. I have the diesel baseliner/volley shot artist b/c I like to finish points at the net. 3 SV, 10 OB, 7 DB. I want to rely on attacking my opponents' weaknesses to force them into errors, but that's impossible when UEs are nonexistent online. I've seen guys w/ 60 BH go the entire match w/o any UEs and kill me for attacking the side that should be weaker.

So basically in short - fix online play to make it so baseline bashing isn't the only way to win. Make stamina and speed matter more and tone down the topspin invasion/monster defense skills. I know online in every game is going to have cheesers, but I'm not talking about the max power/serve guys here as much as just general lack of UEs since online seems to be on normal difficulty default instead of hard or very hard. Even upping online difficulty to hard would suffice and make shot timing matter more and lead to more UEs.

Anybody ever seen their serve fly back?

I must have timed it perfectly on a right stick serve because the ball jumped off the end of my racket and ricochet backwards. My player even turned around to watch the ball sail away.

Pretty cool to see though I was forced into a second serve situation.

I also finally had my first aces in a match and ended up racking four. Nice feeling.

Still back-and-forth on Hard but getting better at the game. Good to know I still have other difficulty levels. I'm also advancing too much for these lower guys so I should be beating them.

Really wish those players could develop as well.

Wow - what a fun game! Just beat Tomic with Nadal on Clay on Hard in my first match 6-4, 6-1. Took about 45 mins but it was very enjoyable and challenging. I got aced twice (including once on a second serve), and didn't even close to an ace on my end - I still have to do the academy for the advanced stuff.

Questions: Does the computer ever miss first serves? Tomic was 97%. Also, only one shot all game hit the net, and the unforced errors were 10-5. It was a fun game, but very winners-heavy.

And just followed it up losing with Serena to Bouchard 6-4, 7-5...one of the most fun video games I've ever played. To the above poster that said he didn't feel cheated, I completely agree with that.

Expert Difficulty is even the same. You will master it as well. For me there is no difference except the fact that u can't ace easily 'cause the CPU is returning better.

I just found a big bug in Top Spin 4

I was playing a tournament in career mode, and in game I had to quit because I had to go out (i was winning damn). ANyway, I was in April and only saved at end of March (No autosave). I was Level 6 at end of march, and after the sparring thing was 7. But I quit and went into my career mode again and I should have been level 6, but I was 7! So it seemed like my level was saved, but I was back in March!

I tested this bug again, i went up to 8 after my sparring. turned it off during tourament game (in april), and came back to end of March, but I was level 8!!

This might not seem lik e big deal, but also could be. There must b a lot of ppl who quit in tournaments and yeah/.

Can anyone check this bug? Hopefully it is not just happening to me.
It is a good thing, but I guess unfair.

                            THanks

Thinking about picking this up for the PS3 since it is on sale at Best Buy here in Canada for $39.99. What difficulty level seems the most fair and competitive when playing the cpu? Thanks.

As far as "fair," I really wouldn't worry about it. I had my *** handed to me 5 or 6 matches in a row on Very Hard and it wasn't frustrating at all. Something about the nature of tennis.

I've since gone down to Hard because I was losing Very Hard matches to level 3 players even when my player was level 7. On Hard I can smoke players my level and below, but when I ran into a level 14 when I was level 9 I lost pretty quick. Seems pretty balanced.
