In the meantime, is there anything I could do to help. I have MLB 2k7 as well as NCAA and NBA2k7. What should I do to my exisiting roster files to make them "non tagged"? Open them, make a mod and save as a new file? Then when I do get the update down the road, I will at least be able to open these?

    Also,
I am in the middle of MLB2k7 franchise and it was based off of Dkrause opening day rosters. If the update gets applied do I lose my franchise too? Or just the original roster file?

    This stinks bigtime.

If there is anything I can do to help test this or possibly get some of you back to a working roster let me know.

    Peace!
You'll want to rename the MLB roster file to something else and maybe edit one player to be safe. Then you should be fine. Would be the same thing for every game.

Where you might be "tagged" is if someone takes one of these adjusted rosters you post and uploads them to 360gamesaves.com which is what happened to FK, myself and who know how many others. For all we know they might expand the scope to other sites or maybe they'll come to their senses and ignore sports games.

Really, unless it was a one time thing by MS (which i doubt) or they override it for certain console ID (like FK, which i doubt they do too). Then its likely that they'll tag them each update at the very least- if its realtime then we are really screwed. So for FK, that basically football and then tagged in the fall update, then basketball and then probably tagged in the spring update and so on.

The real concern for me is the FK rosters as i generally just build on base sets, and thats not nearly as important in my eyes. Ideally, EA has some sort of locker for NCAA and its not a problem. The motivation would be there for them i think.

All you have to do is change an attribute to the file. Like weight, Height, Or even add a player. I see this as a non issue as we can still make roster files to our hearts content and once we change the file as long as it stays on your console it never gets banned. Its buisness as usual come 2k8 and NCAA.

The only problem I can see is a console gets banned every Year. No biggie. We might be better password protecting our RAR or Zip files and put the password in an .NFO type file to make it harder for ms to download each file.

Its more likely banned twice a year assuming its only at at update time and its pretty much a given if its a popular game. I just think its alot to ask the roster guys to do the work, the time, and now the added expense to use a warranty twice a year- not to mention the hassle of using a second 360 to transfer everything. Its really only a non-issue to those using the rosters.

Not, that $100 ($40 for a warranty at gamestop per console, plus i figure $20 is wear and tear on the controller) a year is much, but i really dont want to pay to produce free rosters. I am sure FK will bother, i just wonder how many else will for more than one game at a time.

I want to share this message that was posted at MaddenMania. This guy claims to be an employee of Micro$oft and has brougtht it to the attention of the people responsible for the updates. He included their response and it is not very favorable for anyone on the "revoked console list." I have also included my response.

          • All files uploaded to 360gamesaves will be flagged regardless of content.
          • The revoked list will be updated regularly.
          • The May update retrieves the console identification numbers from the files on your console and references the revoked list on the Xbox Live server every time you connect.
          • Every time you connect the revoked list on your console is compared to the revoked list on our server and updated automatically if your list is different.
          • The console ids on the revoked list are permanent.
          • The consensus over here is that it is the responsibility of the authors of these files to be more cautious of who they distribute their files to.

Before people flame, I want to clarify that I am not involved in producing the updates furnished on Xbox Live. I work with a team responsible for the video content and banner advertisements. I also want to note that I do not share or support the views of the employees who designed the revoked list and would not blame any of you for being upset!

And that is the typical response that I would expect from M$. I fully expected that the console ids on the revoked list would be permanent. It would make too much sense to make the "banned" list dynamic, thus being able to remove console ids that should never have make the revoked list.

Does this mean that there will be no rosters for NCAA '08? NO.

It just means that people will have to make necessary adjustments to ensure that the file does not end up corrupt again. One requirement will be that once a roster file is downloaded from FKrosters.com, MaddenMania, OperationSports or wherever- the roster file will have to be re-named on that individuals game console to ensure that the created console id can not be tagged for sharing roster files.

Another step will be that roster creators like myself will have to distribute the roster files to different sources and have them upload them to the various sites after they re-name the file. For instance, I would send them to TJ at O/S or Big Will at MM. I would also send them to people that use my roster base for edits. Then, they would re-name the roster file and upload the roster download to their database.

Finally, I am going to be in contact with the administration at 360Gamesaves.com and make sure the my roster file does not end up on their forums again.

And as much as it troubles me to say this, I very well may see a PS3 in my future. Prior to this I had absolutely no desire to pick one up. If MS is going to make it a pain in the *** for me to enjoy user created rosters it very well may be time for me to move on..... unfortunately.

Seems to me, the only way to combat this is to make "OS community rosters" and trade them to responsible people thru PM's. As long as you dont make them public accounts wont get flagged.

I bet the people at codejunkies are pissed Microsoft made their transfer kit worthless to non-tech savy people.

well then why doesn't M$ just make them non-workable, instead of screwing with our created rosters...it's ridiculous.

What if I just delete all of the roster files I have?? Does it happen as soon as you access the files??? or is it supposed to happen after you update..

After you update. Basically as I understand it, if M$ sees a roster file being shared on the net they revoke the license of the file. Then when you do the update if you're using that file on your system, assuming you didn't rename it, then the file will not work anymore.

Fortunately, I have always renamed my files as I always keep the original, then make some changes to my teams, then save the file under a different name. My basketball file still works. I don't know about my NCAA 07 football one though but since names don't work online I don't care as much.

Speaking of which, any word at all if names will work online for NCAA 08 Fairdale Kings or anyone know?

Not your console, the console that the roster file originated from. And they're not being banned from XBL, just their saved files can no longer be transferred to another 360.

As Fairdale has said though, once the files are distributed and resaved/renamed there is no way M$ could stop all of them from being used. It will just require cooperation in the community to do so.

ODogg, I am awaiting word on this very issue. EA Sports is being tight-lipped about whether or not we will be able to use rosters online this year. I have a really good contact with EA but he hasn't been able to address my question yet.

My fear is that because there hasn't been a public outcry about rosters not being used online, and if it is not on EA's agenda for the testers to address-- then it may be overlooked again this year. I'm waiting for confirmation and if I hear anything I'll let you know.
