Hey, I want to get a hard drive for the 360 but I read stuff saying you can get banned for using non Microsoft hard drives. Is that the case? I've read things that go both ways, it's safe or bannable. Anyone using a non official drive? It's like 50 bucks for a 250gb rather than a hundred from Microsoft.

Whoever said that is either misinformed or just trying to scare you. A hard drive is just a hard drive. There's nothing special about the ones that say Microsoft on the shell other than the fact that they're ludicrously overpriced.

If you have the dashboard beta and a windows 7 pc, you can use playto to send any file from your computer to your tv without having to go into the windows media center extender menu. Once you allow it on your 360, all you have to do is right click on a file, click playto, choose where you want it sent, and it'll start playing. This is really cool, especially since using windows media center on the 360 is so slow.

Easy. Play offline. Then you won't get any progress,power ups or coins,won't be able to 5 star anything plus your stars and scores won't save at all.

I've done everything I need to do (pre-register the console, etc), but I still haven't gotten the update... Will have been a week tomorrow. I didn't miss something obvious, did I?

You probably didn't qualify or something. As soon as I registered for the update, I got the code and instructions shortly after.

No, I've already redeemed the product key to enroll my console in the program. The email then said that I'd get an update within 1-2 business days (this was Aug 31), but I haven't gotten anything yet.

Took mine about 3-4 days after registering the console to get the update.
