I'm curious as to what you guys use to clean your PS3? I have had mine for a little over a year and sadly I've never cleaned it. Is there a certain kit you guys use? I saw a post where someone was talking about a new cd cleaning kit by Maxwell or something that they use. If someone could provide a link or something I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks!

So what was the final size of the backup? Did the PS3 compress anything at all?

The final size of the backup was 34gb, so the PS3 compressed it down from 50gb.

I had a few issues with the hdd install but it looks like everything is working now. I was a bit of an adventure, but now I have 298gb on my PS3 (even though I installed a 320gb, weird).

The issue I had was everytime I tried to restore my backup to my new hdd it failed at 100%. This was really frusterating because it takes over an hour to do a restore and I probably did it 5 times. I searched online for the problem and I wasn't alone, but there was a workaround thankfully. You have to cancel the restore at 98% then the system reboots and it will rebuild its database. After that you delete a corrupted file in your games folder and you are set. Kinda scary, but it worked.

After the backup was restored I had to reactivate my system and then I thought I was set. So I put in Rock Band 2 to make sure it still worked and it found all my game data and DLC, the only problem was I couldn't play any of the DLC! Oh no! Luckily all I had to do was restart my PS3 and it fixed it, so you must have to do that after activating a system that has DLC on it because I couldn't play PSN downloaded games like High Velocity Bowling before the reboot either.

So finally I felt good and I could play my RB2 with DLC, then I noticed my RB1 songs weren't exported anymore. So I figured I just needed to export them again so I redownload the export key just in case then go to RB1 to export the songs. The export fails! CRAP! But.. after deleting all my RB1 (not RB2) game data, I was able to run the export on RB1 again and now all my songs (RB2, RB1, ACDC, and DLC) are all in RB2. All my PSN games play and it looks like I'm good to go. I do need to put my 60gb hdd back in real quick and pull off my MLB The Show 09 saves because I had played it a good bit after doing my backup because I was having all these issues. But the actually process of switching hdds is easy, so that'll only take a few minutes and I'll finally be done with this ordeal!

I think that had my restore worked to 100% like most people's do, I wouldn't have had these other issues, but that's alright.

By default, all hard drives have about 10% that is inaccessible due to formatting, etc. That is normal.

yeah, that's what I figured. It was a pretty crazy process to get my new ps3 hdd, but I'm glad it is finally done. Now I don't have to watch the disk size anymore. I still wonder what it was that was causing my restore to fail at 100%.

If someone could help me set up my PS3 for online I'd appreciate it. I'm setting it up using a Ethernet cord. Since my cable modem only has one slot for a Ethernet cord I purchased a Ethernet hub which allows me to have 5 more Ethernet slots.

I followed the instructions Sony gave me on Sony.com, but my PS3 still does not read that it has a connection when it should. I have three Ethernet cords. One goes for the back of my cable modem to the hub.

The other goes from the back of my PC to another slot on the hub and the third goes from my PS3 to the hub. I am online now and everything is running smoothly. I just can't get my PS3 to read that there is a connection. When I open the browser on my PS3 it says something along the lines of "page cannot be viewed. go to settings > network settings and check your settings".

If someone could help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Kevin, did this affect your Burnout save in anyway? I have been thinking of upgrading my HDD, but I still have a bunch of trophies to attain.

I haven't test that game out yet! It's next on my list after getting RB fixed. I don't expect a problem with Burnout because it just goes off the game save that I backed up to a flash drive just in case the restore didn't work. I'm going to check it out soon though once I get all my RB DLC back. I want to try out those toy cars for Burnout today.

So your computer is online but the PS3 isn't getting online? That's weird cause it sounds like you have it hooked up right. I use a router instead of a hub coming from my cable modem, so I don't know if that's what the problem was. My brother was having a problem once getting his PS3 online when he was splitting a connection like you are. If his cpu was online, he couldn't go online with his PS3, it was weird, and I don't know how he eventually fixed it but he did. Try turning off your computer and seeing if your PS3 goes online then? If that doesn't work, try plugging your PS3 in straight from the modem just to make sure your PS3 can get online like that.

Go to network settings, set up a new connection and make sure everything is set to auto.

Then, test the connection.

LOL It would have been easy had I not had the restore problem, but the backing up of data, installing a new hdd, and restoring the data (assuming it all works right) is easy.

Ill be sure to have you on conference if I ever try this, but I think im going to take mine back to walmart and swap for the 80GB before I ever do this within the next year before my warranty expires
