Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
New PS3 Slim models (3001-A/B) now available in North America
Earlier this year a mysterious FCC filing by Sony revealed new PS3 models labeled CECH-3001A/B. Previously manufactured PS3s were labeled as part of the CECH 2xxx series, but the new generation of PS3s have begun shipping to customers and these new models come with some changes that help the consumer.
Customers have started receiving these new PS3 units and have taken note of some changes they have noticed over their previous models, some of which include: A black trim below the disc drive, LEDs have been removed on the system except for the HDD indicator, and the system appears to run much quieter when compared to the CECH-2xxx series. These new slims also use less energy than previous models -- additional details can be found here.

Amazon began shipping the new generation PS3 earlier this week to customers -- so if you ordered recently you may have a new model. As we reported last week, Sony posted images of, what appeared to be, the CECH 3000-B model from Japan. If you are in the market for a new PS3, now is fine a time to purchase one of the newer models, though there is a chance Sony may announce a price drop during Gamescom later this month.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Interesting.. I've had my 80gb PS3 since 2008 so sadly it's probably already nearing the end of it's lifespan. If they do announce a price drop at Gamescon, I'll have to pick up one of the new Slims..Chicago Bulls | Chicago Bears | Chicago White Sox | Chicago BlackhawksComment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
If anyone runs across any good deals on a new system, please let me know. I'm dying without my PS3. My future room mate has been staying at my house, so I've been able to play his.
Mine that died was an old school 40gb.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
But, I miss playing my game when I wanted(didnt play alot) rather only playing it when I have. Alot of times recently I played the game when I didnt really want to, but knew I dont have the time to play. Ivhave to play in a living room. So, I have to deal with people walking through and being rushed. I dont really like playing while people is around, Ihate it when the commentate the game or try to give me pointers. Plus, I know it is boring to watch someone play the game. I dont really like watching gameplay vids like thatComment

thats another thing. these ****ing controllers break so damn easily. the triggers always seem to end up sticking, the pad comes off the right stick. u do realize some games make us mash buttons and stuff!!!

I haven't had any problems with controller wear and tear. I've had two of my three controllers for about three years now and they still work perfectly.Ryan Spencer

I've had DS3 controllers where buttons either stick or sometimes the analog sticks might pop up out of nowhere.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Splitting hairs, but you can generally get them for ~$40 online.
I was just complaining about this to my gf, though. I have a tendency to crack the plastic around the left stick at about 7 o'clock. I blame myself, but the plastic there is so damn thin I blame Sony equally.
They should be down to $30 at this point, if not $20.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I find for me, if I keep my controller away from my kids. They last longer. haha.
I have 5 controllers altogether and a few of the older ones have minor button issues although the two I keep hidden away for me are in good shape. One is an original import Japan white one I've had for almost 4 years.
It does seem though that the PS2 gen controllers were alot more durable.Last edited by Chef Matt; 08-12-2011, 01:45 PM.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Both Sony and MSFT need to lower the prices on these controllers. The best is MSFT charging $64.99 for a controller that has the d-pad fixed, which should replace the current controllers and charge lower prices on them.
