I'm not sure why, but I really like that, the pink just works. It will likely be extremely limited like the Yakuza PS3 was:

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...

I'm sure this problem has been discussed previously but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I downloaded the free AFL pack for Madden this afternoon and played a quick game. I exited the game and all of the sudden my PS3 turned off, with the red indicator light blinking. I turned it back on and let it sit there for a minute and after a while it turned off on its own again, with the red light blinking.

Doesn't sound good. Can anyone who has had this problem in the past give me an idea of what the issue is? I assume the best course of action is to give Sony a call?

I have a 40 gig BTW, probably about two years old.

Hold the power button when the PS3 is off for 10-12 seconds. A menu will pop up and select restore files. This will rebuild the database and fix any errors.

Can't even get it to boot up now... looks like the ol' Yellow Light of Death.

If you can get it up and running, this sounds like an overheating problem. Watch the system while you are playing, and see if the green and blue lights are blinking. This means that the system is hot. After a while it will turn off and beep, along with the red light blinking.

Sorry to hear it isn't working.

New PS3 owner and I gotta question. I have a Samsung LCD tv that's only 720p but when I hooked the PS3 up with the HDMI cable the PS3 auto setup at 1080p. I went in a manually set it to 720p cause that's what's supposed to be the max res and that's what the 360 auto sets to with HDMI. Am I wrong and the tv can run at 1080p or would the PS3 have gone to running in 720p?
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

If you can get it to run, I'd try to do the restore option. It doesn't delete any files, it just fixes corrupt files which might be causing the problems. I had friends that had a similar problem and after I told them about the restore, it got fixed.

Remember, this isn't the restore from the XMB. You can only get to this by holding the power button for 10 or so seconds. Good luck.

It's not... it shuts down on its own 2-3 second after trying to fire it up. After researching it a bit more online looks like the options are:

                    1. Pay Sony $150 to repair / replace it
                    2. Have a third-party repair it
                    3. Buy a new PS3

Yes those are the options. I've been through the sony repair process a few times. If you have any questions PM me and I'll answer best I can.

One thing to remember, I've heard 3rd party fixes don't last long, so if you go that route be sure to get one with a guarantee. Also the sony process usually ends up in you getting a refurb.

I'll probably go the Sony route... I heard the same thing about the 3rd party fixes, though if I did that it would give me a chance to backup all my save files. Apparently that isn't an option with the Sony process.

That's correct. I lost all my save files in the process. Because I got refurb back.

Although at the time it was no biggie because I had beatin the games I had or got the Platinums already and was just playin COD waw online mostly.

Edit; Oh yeah, and the process usually takes about 9 days from the time you call them. 2 days to get the coffin then 7 days from the day you send it in. (depending on your location of course)

My Sony repair process wasn't too painful. It took about 2.5 weeks from when I originally contacted them to send me a box for the PS3, before I got my system back, but I did fiddle with my PS3 a little after getting the box because I received the box the day before the 4th of July holiday, so I figured it wasn't getting shipped anywhere fast anyways. They did break the red system standby light on my PS3 when they fixed my blu-ray drive failure, but I'm not sending it back to them again just for that.

I think option 3 of buying a whole new system is a little extreme.

                              Question for anyone who knows!(obviously)

I recently updated my firmware on my PS3.
Got the fancy new XMB screen....all the new PS Store apps...
But I no longer can get my disc to auto start upon startup.
I checked and unchecked and rechecked the auto startup option.
                              Any ideas?

                              Thanks.

Well I submitted a repair request, so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I can borrow my dad's PS3 while mine is being repaired... he hardly ever uses it.
