From everything I've read... yes.

I'll be trying it out over the next few nights...I am starting to buy into the "Console is more than Gaming" idea, they have become the media centers...way more flexible than AppleTV IMO.

Cool, report back if it works. IIRC, you just go to Video, select the DVD-ROM and pick your movie file.

I use eBay for about 90% of my Blu-Rays. Picked up Saw 4 Unrated for $11.50 last week, along with Game Plan for $12. Both were brand new as well. I think the most I've paid for a Blu-Ray on eBay is $16.50.

Oh, sorry... I meant to say deals when buying the PS3. I know that Black Friday had insane deals with like 10 free Blu Ray movies with a PS3 purchase... I just wasn't sure if it was the same dealio here.

Thanks for that suggestion, though. I think that's probably the best way to go.

They were giving away 5 free Blu-Rays when buying a PS3. That deal ended 2 weeks ago though.

Quick question about transfering movies to your flash drive...do i have to make a VIDEO folder inside the PS3 folder to transfer videos to my flash drive in order to work on the PS3? i believe something like this had to be done on the PSP, i could be wrong though.

You can, or you can select the device, press the Triangle button and choose "View all"

These guys are killing me with The Show hype! I just picked up a 360 Elite after my 2nd 360 went down last week (thank God for the Best Buy product replacement plan). I obviously had to pay a little extra for the Elite. Now, I'm actually thinking about returning my 360 to Best Buy and getting a PS3 (I can't believe I just typed that). Plus, the Blu-Ray player is one heckuva deal to top it all off.

I'm not even that much of a baseball fan and typically play NCAA Football, CH2K and NBA2K and FIFA, and currently COD4. The Show sounds like a fantastic game (realism, crowd interaction, commentary, etc.). Uncharted and Resistance sound good too, but I'm more of a sports-gamer. I almost broke down last night and returned everything, but I "slept" on it.

What do you guys think?

My 360 broke down last week and I was in a similar situation as you...Best Buy warranty, but in my case they were out of 360's. So I took the store credit and went with the PS3.

So far I am more than happy with my decision. First and foremost is the piece of mind in not having to worry about whether or not it will work when I turn it on! I am also a sports gamer, and am very happy with NHL 08 on the PS3. Sure, I wish the frame rate were 60fps like the 360 version but the 09 titles should see all of that corrected. Besides, 60fps means nothing when the system doesn't work.

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but The Show also has me interested. And I picked up Ratchet and Clank when I bought the system and that game is a marvel to look at and a blast to play!

I'm sure most people are just going to tell you to do it man. Most people love their PS3. It's really up to you. If you do it make sure and report back to give us your thoughts. The only thing you need to buy is an HDMI cable with it. Online play is free, controller doesn't need batteries, Blu-ray works right out of the box, Wi-Fi is built in and works great, etc. And best of all you can watch a high def movie with your girl tonight on Valentine's Day and tomorrow be playing the MLB 08 Show demo. What could be better?

Microsoft do not know how to make reliable consoles, it's simple as that. My original Xbox was piece of crap with constant disc freezes and NFL 2k5 was unplayable because it would freeze 2 weeks into a season which was even more annoying, apparently something to do with the POS original hard drive they had in there.

It blows my mind that any of you waste your time with the POS 360 that MS masquerades as a console now. It's poorly built, maybe MS doesn't pour enough money into R & D or are just too stupid to realize many gamers like to play their games for countless hours at a time so overheating might be an issue.

I know they got a head start and had the better games and online but for 2008 that will change. It is hardly worth the stress of whether your 360 is going to turn on the next time you play or having to crank it because it's louder than a friggen vacuum cleaner.

Anybody who has a faulty system (about half of you) is an idiot to keep it now when the PS3 will have the better year for 2008. Cut your losses and future anxiety, get rid of that POS and get a PS3, you will not regret it. I'm not a Sony fanboy because everything I said about the 360 is simple fact. I bought one originally, it lasted a month and back it went. The PS3 is such a superior system I'm shocked it's not dwarfing the 360 in sales at this point.

There's no way I'd only own a PS3. No freaking way. If you can get a PS3 to go along with it then certainly get one. I own them all so I can give MY unbiased opinion. yes the 360 has had some failures yet in some sort of miracle I'm still on a launch system. If you've had a multiple failure rate then I can see wanting to make a change. So just do what YOU want to do.

Is there any type of universal remote that works with the PS3? I know it was discussed a while back in the thread, but are people happy with the PS3 Remote ? I have some Blu-Ray movies coming and do not want to use the controller.
