All - here is my writeup I sent to my friends today about my experience last night with getting my PS3
Last night I attended the midnight launch of the Metal Gear Solid game and PS3 bundle. The store I was at had 4 bundles and I got the third one. The guy 4 places in line behind me got the last one. Just when I thought I was fairly high on the nerd scale I stood in line and learned that my nerd credentials are actually quite suspect. I guess I’m a pseudo-nerd. The guys were great to talk to while we waited and fended off the flys and night bugs but half the time I was lost as to what we were actually talking about.
Anyways, I got the PS3 along with MLB 08: the Show, Uncharted, College Hoops 2K8 and a free downloadable game called Pain. The new PS3 comes with the new Dual Shock rumble controller, a USB charger cable, an 80 gig hard drive, power cord, Ethernet cable, composite cables (LOL – does anyone use these??) and several manuals, only one of which seems useful. Setting it up was very easy and I was hooked up to everything in less than 5 minutes. I was immediately connected to the internet upon boot-up and downloaded a system update and was in and playing The Show in less than 5 more minutes. Also, just as a note, the PS3 was immediately recognized by my PC media manager (I run Vista) and all my songs available without installing or doing anything which was nice.
The Show is incredible, I only played 3 innings and it took about 30 minutes but it’s very realistic. Very very very realistic baseball, a lot of foul balls, a lot of drama, great graphics, great cut scenes, very easy to pick up and play without learning a bunch of useless crap…it’s just…WOW. If only someone could make a football game like this! So this weekend I have 6 Blu-Ray movies to watch and several new games to try out. But so far I love it! I still love my 360 of course but the PS3 really looks so much more bad@ss compared to it. They sit side by side in two compartments of my entertainment center. I hope the 360 don’t get jealous and get a RROD.
