2.42 causing PS3 failures. This is what, the 3rd time a PS3 update has done this? Exactly why I'm usually one update behind everytime. Already had one PS3 die and I'm out of warranty.

I have to take Kotaku's claims with a grain of salt as they report anything and everything under the sun.

If it is the firmware, it can be fixed via another firmware.. right?

Yeah, that's what they did with 2.40, releasing 2.41 quicky after.

I do believe it's happening, just don't think it's a major widespread release. People report their 360's bricking every update as well. Just think it's the nature of these consoles releasing update after update.

I had no issues with 2.40 that everyone said (including Sony ) had issues. I can see a system or here dying, but if you read that PS Forums thread, it's more like 5-6 guys reporting it, and we had one on here. That's a pretty low number. Just throwing it out there though, as you never know.

I have been running 2.42 for over a week now and have not had any issues.

I think mine's going to go soon. First, my fan is on all the time. I can literally sit in the XMB, with no disc in, and the fan will be at full blast. This continues for as long as I have the balls to leave it that way, which today, for example, was about eight hours. That's right: the fan never shut off, without a disc in, for eight hours.

Add to that: now my BD driver (or laser, whatever) isn't always picking up the games/movies. Sometimes I have to eject/reinsert the disc ten or twelve times before it catches. It has, until now, always caught it eventually, but I know I'm playing with fire at this point.
