2.60 hit last night if anyone noticed.

Other than the picture program, not much else I think.

Well, picked up a 80gb PS3 from the Dell sale ($316 +tax) w/free shipping. Got here super fast; ordered Sunday afternoon and it arrived today. It's lighter than I thought it'd be but whisper quiet which is cool (and eerie at the same time). Hate the lack of backwards compatibility, and didn't even have a component cable. Fortunately had extra hdmi cable. I questioned the built in wireless but currently using it. Online experience so far is that... it sucks, at least downloading demos. Downloaded the 2.6 update which took a while. But I've been downloading the MGS4 demo for the past 90min and it's only at 10% lol. Maybe it'll go faster if I use ethernet? Outside of playing a bluray movie looks like I won't get to do much with it tonight
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

The new 80gb's aren't backwards compatible... nor are the 160gb's.

To my knowledge the only PS3 that is backwards compatible is the 60GB and those are next to impossible to find new so you will have to search places like ebay to find one most likely.

The first version of the 80gb was also backward compatible. It was done through software, so it wasn't as good as the 60gb. Also the 20gb was BC.

The first version of the 80 gig is partially backward compatible. There's a bunch of my PS3 games that I play on it but with strange glitches here and there. I am so regretting selling my 60 gig.

                      Got a question guys.

Should I keep my PS3 on all the time? By this I mean I power it down but should I flick the switch in the back when I'm done with it, too? I know the PS2 had a power button then the switch in the back as well, but I never owned a PS2 so I don't know.

I just want to be as careful and safe as possible with this machine. Don't want it dying on me!

Damn that sux. They definitely touted it as being BC compatible as a selling point over the 360. i want one but i need it to be BC. and i definitely dont want to scourge the internets and ebay to find one.

Why does it NEED to be? I'm assuming you already own a PS2, so just keep that to play your PS2 games on...

Exactly. I've never understood the big deal about backwards compatibility.

Well for some, like myself, I dont own a PS2 and havent had one for a few years now. I dont want to spend another 129.99 on a PS2 just to play a few of the classics that I like when the PS3 had backwards compatibility prior before changing their focus and dropping it.

I never used PS2 games on my 60gb ps3 before I sold it, and now that I got the 80gb it doesnt bother me.. The only part that bothers me is that the 60gb is worth more, may be a collectors item..... I also have never used nor had the urge to use an original Xbox game on my 360...
