I have my wife on the cusp of getting my one for graduation. The Blueray player is actually the biggest selling point for her.

I dont follow. There are a lot of games for the PS3. Even if you never played a game, buying a PS3 as a blu-ray player, right now, makes a lot of sense.

Sony makes a blu-ray player for 399. They also make the PS3 for 399 which plays blu-ray and games. This is what I am saying. You can look at it as you are getting a blu-ray player with a game console included or a game console with a blu-ray player included.

Maybe it is because I am in the market for a blu-ray player.

400 dollars is nothing to spend, right now, on just a blu-ray player.

Maybe in 3 years when BR players are 100 bucks this situation would be totally different.

Let's not go there because at least the PS3 can play that one game without sounding like a vacuum cleaner or blowing up or having to use erasers to prop it or waiting 4 weeks to get a replacement one that is refurbished or heating up like a toaster oven etc. I could go on about that other clunky POS that masquerades as a console but my fingers are tired.

Well, I guess since Blu-Ray players are ridiculously overpriced, the PS3 might seem "cheap" in comparison.

Also, I love the completely unprovoked 360 tirade in this thread. Somebody disagrees with the OP and gets laced. Nothing like a little console fanboyism to get the day started

Regardless of a diamond encrusted Blue-Ray player being inside, the PS3 is still outrageously priced for a GAME MACHINE.

Let's see how much money I need to cough up just to buy the cheapest version, and MLB The Show 08.

-$400 machine
-$60 HDMI cable (What? The only "true HD machine" doesn't come HD out of the box? FU!)
-$60 The Show 08
-$55 DS3 controller (If you want to play the game the way it was meant to be played, then yes it's a necessity. How are you going to hide your pitch location if it weren't for rumble? You can't. Hey dude, look away - I'm locating my pitch)

TOTAL: $575 + 7% AZ sales tax = $615.25 to play my game.

"But it has Blue-Ray!!" So? I'm trying to play a game. Sure I want one, but no way in hell can I afford one. The total cost of bringing home a proper HD set with 1 game is over 4 months of car payments.

What kind of car do you drive that $600 is over 4 months of car payments??

And please don't do the breakdowns on the systems as it's really a wasted post. Considering you get wireless built in, a bigger HD and Blu-Ray playback, comparing the premium 360 and the 40 GB PS3 shows you certainly get equal value for your money, even if you do have to buy *gasp* $6 cables to enjoy HD.

Edit: Just re-read your post... if you're paying $60 for HDMI cables then you have no basis to complain.

Thats how i looked at it, had my PS3 for two months and already have 24 blu-ray movies and only one game(Show 08, do not plan on buying another game anytime soon) and i think the PS3 is a steal at the 40gb price.

Who's comparing the PS3 to the 360? Not me. Regarding my $145 monthly car payments - I'm not sure if you're making fun of my car for being cheap, or saying that that's too much so I'll let you explain on that one.
