this whole thread is fanboyish. It's my goal each generation to get the consoles that have awesome games. I had all three last gen, four if you count the dreamcast, and the n64 and playstation before that. I was even a SNES and Genesis kid. I was able to go to blockbuster and get the best of anything.

Both consoles have great lineups, as it's stupid to think otherwise at this point. This fall and early next year are going to be loaded with great games. Both are pretty cheap as well, I got a 360 for $140 on ebay almost a year ago. I don't have a ps3 (again) yet, but I will soon.

that was me growing up... i think this is the first generation where I didn't have EVERY console (just not interested in the Wii).. well u know what, only consoles I've never owned were the 3D0 and the Saturn. But hell.. I always made it my business to get all the systems... that way, you don't miss out on anything.

I didn't know that it was hard to find people to play online. A few years ago there issues for sure, but not now. In fact, I played Killzone 2 about three hours this morning, there were plenty of people still playing, and the game has been out for a long time now.

It's understandable the 360 has a huge lead in the software department. Sony made some terrible decisions with the price point, and plus the 360 was out a year or so before. Sony is pretty much all in with the recent price drop. It's probably too late to make any sort of dent though. Only time will tell, especially this holiday season.

The new race is for the Wii gamers who are (or will be soon) looking for more substance in their gaming experience. Hence the motion control announcements for both consoles. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Ummmm I don't know where you get that from. I know probably fifty PS3 owners who don't even know what an RPG is.

Yeah, I think he had it backwards.

Most RPG gamers have generally been PlayStation gamers in the past (mostly because that was always the platform where the good RPG's were). But RPG players are only a subset of the PS3 user base.

              Re: The On-going Battle..Xbox 360 or PS3??

Don't have any brand loyalty here. Went from N64, to XBOX, and for this generation, I decided to go with the PS3.

              My reasons were as follows:
              1. MLB 09: The Show
1a. No red ring of death. I had 2 original XBOX's die on me (one by my own doing, one by its own doing) before my 3rd and final XBOX is still kicking into its 6th year. It was SO annoying having to get a new system (or nowadays, send one in) so I decided to limit that and go with the more durable PS3. Though I'm still scared crapless it'll die one day out of the blue.
              2. Free online
              3. Technologically, further ahead. Not a huge gap, but similar to how the original XBOX was to the original PS2. Funny how they flip flopped.
              4. My brother had a PS3 at the time, so we could play online. That has since changed, but I don't play too much online besides COD. That also made getting an XBOX 360
              5. I'm not a huge gamer, mostly just a sports gamer that plays some COD to mix it up (and pretty much all those games, besides MLB The Show, are multi platform). So the games catalog wasn't too big of an issue to me. But now the PS3 seems to be catching up to the 360 in the exclusives so that's nice. I am a little disappointed I can't play Banjo Kazooie/Halo/Gears of War, but it was far outweighed by the other positives.

With that said, I'd still be damn happy if I were to get a XBOX 360.

That's just my take on it. The whole PS3/360 flame wars are completely idiotic. It's 100% personal opinion. I don't understand why people don't get that. Different strokes for different folks!

                Re: The On-going Battle..Xbox 360 or PS3??

I've already given Sony credit, and discussed the value of personal preference for the individual gamer. I only got into(what became)a nonsensical back and forth because NBA 2k8 Champ was disputing the obvious fact that the 360 is dominating in software sales and that they have some serious blockbuster exclusives. The only reason I brought that up was to address the "does the 360 need saving" issue. Already stated that PS3 owners are long past the point where they should be happy with their purchase. I also stated that I'll be picking one up eventually.

Not really trying to get into a namecalling thing.

                  Re: The On-going Battle..Xbox 360 or PS3??

I have a 60gb PS3 I bought in 2007 and purchased a 360 this past Christmas. I own more games on the PS3 and PS3 is the primary system I play. I just have to say I am becoming more and more disappointed in Sony every time I see PS3 vs 360 game comparison (that 360 90% of the time wins, the other 10% time its a tie), everytime PS3 loses exclusives to 360, how much functionality is in XBOX Live compared to PSN OR when I hear how games are being dumbed down to better support 360 (Final Fantasy)

Developers (besides 1st party) just dont want to take the time into PS3 hardware so AA isnt used all the time (so ports that are sub 720p but use AA on 360 are gonna look bad on PS3 without AA - since MS just dropped their 1024x768 rule this will be reality very soon). PS3 has too little ram, seems as if it bottlenecks alot and after firmware 3.0 causing problems, Sony should really just start over with PS3 OS - dumb it down and provide as much RAM for games, they are trying however, it is a memory clearing error that is causing FW3.0 problems. I am rooting for Sony to get it straight and hope their Motion Wands and 3D vault it ahead but I am pessimistic. My opinion.

^Sony never had a rule like that in place so I doubt it changes anything for them (and there were still games on the 360 that were sub-hd like cod4, halo 3, etc) so I doubt something like that would make any difference in PS3 development in the future.

What I was getting at was since MS said OK games have to be at 1024x768 its already there when they port to PS3. So now Developers make them less ex; 980x752 but jack up AA. Well now they port to PS3 at 980x752 with no AA. Now the PS3 version will look much worse. Sony needs to say, our games need to be at 1024x768 (with some exceptions)

I think the biggest thing the 360 has over the ps3 for me is the controller. It's crazy how much it matters to me and I didn't even know it until I played a ps3 a couple of weeks ago at a friend's place.

My feeling is that the 360s controller is more intuitive especially with teh sticks and mostly the left one. You press almost straight up to move up because of the way your hands go. On the ps3 you actually press left/up to move up because of the angle your thumb rests on it. I won't go into more detail on the rest of the controls, but in almost every way I think it's superior (triggers anyone?) It felt strange playing batman like that, and I played resistence 1 as well which if I'm going to be honest felt pretty weak for a 'next gen' shooter. It may be a launch title, but so was Gears of War...Now killzone may be the shiz, but I remember people reviewing and saying how good resistence was...

overall i just like the 360 more. And that's all that really counts. Besides this generation I've always been on the "losing team" of consoles with the exception of genesis. I had every single Sega system and really enjoyed all of the especially the dreamcast, but guess what? They all "lost"...but it doesn't matter because imo I "won" If I own whatever I like the most - I win. A lot of people talk about the ps2, but imo the ps1 was the best sony console so far, I thought it was great. when ps2 came out and xbox, I went with the xbox and was glad I did. Even though ps2 had more titles I felt they were of less quality.

With this gen, 360 came out first, which is huge to me because I have to have the new one right away But I'm really happy with it, don't feel i'm missing anything and love the controller and have a bunch of friends who own it too.

I just wish we had F-1 game, K-1 game and the show, but I can live with that.

So far ps3 had the edge in my book, Blu Ray is nice but $20-$30 movies is not fun. Free online but right now Madden Online Franchise isn't working whereas Live's Madden Franchise works no problem.

I can stream more types of saved video from my home network but I can't stream Netflix. I can upgrade my hard drive to what ever without being stuck with 120 for $150.

IF you can afford both you have nothing to worry about you get all the exclusives and benefits of each.

If you can't and don't plan on purchasing the other for a year or two go PS3.

I'd actually like to play madden on 360 with a ps3 controller. I'd be set.
