Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

Purchases, I tend to be a cheap bastard unless it's a title I REALLY want. November was something of an anomaly because buying two titles on release day (Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City) is not typical for me -- usually I'm poking the used games bin with a stick, or waiting for stuff to drop in price.

I do have a bit of a problem with backlog, though. I've got several games that just got overwhelmed by real-life constraints (Red Dead: Redemption and LA Noire in particular kinda sat because real life intruded). It stings a little less since I paid used price for them, but still...

My one knuckle-head quirk is that every once in a while, I'll tell my seven-year-old to surprise me and play whatever he picks. Only problem is he tends to pick what he'd want to play, so I end up with kids' games (LEGO, Rayman Rabbids, etc.) most of the time I go that route.

Gamestop is having a B2G1 sale on used game today. I had WWE 12, Uncharted 3 and Halo: Combat Evolved in cart and could have gotten all three for $105, then I thought "what the hell are you doing?". I've only played BF3 once since I got it on Black Friday, I haven't touched Batman AC since before Halloween and I'm finally ready to fully dive into NBA 2K12 now that the season is just around the corner. I don't have time for any other games, so I closed the window and said **** it!

Good for you. I saw that e-mail and had a similar thought about what games I could get, but I deleted it and bought my wife a Christmas present on Amazon instead.

NBA 2K12 is going to be real nice once those Opening Day rosters are out and the next patch drops.

Here's my list as of today:
        NBA 2K12 (360 and PS3 copy)
        Madden 12 (PS3)
        MLB 11 The Show (PS3)
        WWE 12 (360)

        ... and here's the 'B' list:
        NCAA 12 (PS3)
        NHL 12 (360)
        NBA 2K11 (360)
        NBA Live 10 (360)
        College Hoops 2K8 (360)

I also have Batman AC (PS3), but haven't opened it yet, as I'm waiting until my Christmas break to dive into that game.
        Currently Playing:
        MLB The Show 25 (PS5)

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

Bumping this thread up from the dead. Steam and these PC game sales, along with my current desire to complete all the games I never did and get the achievements has made me realize just how much of a backlog of games I have at the moment.

I have all these I need/want to play:
          Halo Wars
          Halo 4
Elder Scrolls: Morrowind GOTY ($5, can't go wrong except I'll want to play Oblivion and Skyrim after)
          FTL: Faster than Light
          FIFA 13
Call of Duty - ever games campaign
Mass Effect (again will probably pick up 2 and 3 after I beat it)
Borderlands - never beat it before 2 came out
          Final Fantasy XIII

I think I'm missing a few but you get the idea. There are a LOT of hours that are needed to beat/play all of those. Not to mention it's basketball season and I want to play some College Hoops, or the fact that I also bought Company of Heroes and haven't downloaded or played it yet.

This is my first year with the ability to play the PC version of games and I bought way too many with all the sales. I have no idea where I'm going to find the time to play everything but at least I'll have something to do when the releases start slowing down.

I will catch up during the summer since it's usually extremely slow. If the release schedule was more balanced I think people would finish more games.

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

Rather than too many games, I just don't have enough time!

I bought a WiiU and I played ZombiU for a couple hours. I've been dying to get back into it but I wanted to finish Walking Dead first. I finished that a couple weeks ago but then got the itch to play NBA 2K12 on PC. So I've been busy setting up my laptop, rosters, mods, etc.

My Vita has gotten no play at all lately. I finally gave up on Madden and had a desire to set up a new franchise on MLB The Show but with the new one coming out in 6 weeks or so after a couple of games I blew it off.

I bought BioShock on Steam for like $5, I don't even count that in my backlog lol - I never played it, and for that price why not just buy it?

Also, since I got my laptop finally set up, I installed DayZ this weekend but I have no idea when I'll actually play it.

I haven't touched my PS3 or XBox in a couple of weeks, but I got Forza Horizon for $15 on sale so it's just sitting there, although I never played Forza as much as I wanted to.

There's a thread on GAF that's a one year challenge to not buy any new games, I think I'm a prime candidate for that haha. I have videogame ADD to the max....

This Christmas Holiday I put a big dent into my backlog.

                  Finished off:
                  Far Cry 3
                  Borderlands 2
                  Red Dead Redemption
                  Hotline Miami

Still nowhere near finished everything but happy with that progress.

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

                    My list:

Far Cry 3 - just started
Dishonored - halfway through. Put it down 2 months ago, want to finish it though
Mark of the Ninja - halfway through. Put it down 3 months ago, want to finish
Halo 4 - played a lot of multiplayer, a few missions into campaign
Borderlands 2- Around level 20, haven't played since October. Don't know if I'll go back
Dust: An Elysian Tale - Played maybe 1 hour of it. Don't know if I'll go back

Then of course there's my Steam backlog:

X-Com - hit a rough spot in campaign. Think I need to start over
                    Torchlight II
                    FTL
                    Hotline Miami
                    Sleeping Dogs
                    Spec Ops: The Line

There's other game I have on Steam that I've either never played or played 1 hour of, don't know if I'll ever play any of them though (Alpha Protocol, Metro 2033, Rage, Just Cause 2, Dead Space 1 & 2)

This is the biggest problem with PC gaming... when the sales hit you're like what! $7.50 for this title? Then not download it nor play it till like a year later.

There were games that I had already beaten that I was considering buying just because of how cheap they were. I knew that there wasn't a chance that I would go through them again but I had to fight myself to stop from buying them.

With PS+ my list has gotten ridiculous. 4 Vita games, 4 or 5 PS3 games I want to play just because. Not including the 4 or so I received for Christmas. Although I did finish the walking dead. So that knocks that one out of the way. But I made the mistake of moving to Black ops 2 instead of getting into a SP game. Now I'll be hooked on that for a while. Oh well.

Yeah between steam, gamers gate and gamefly sales, I have probably picked up 12-14 pc games lately on top of my gf getting me Black Ops 2 for Christmas. No clue when I will have time to play them all, but I am really enjoying what I have played so far.

Here's how I attacked my backlog on xbox 360.

Last month I put together a PC. Then picked up a bunch of games off Steam (so cheap since I haven't had a gaming PC in a few years) that who knows when I'll get to them.

Then got the Wii U and a few games for that.

Then picked up a few more games on the Steam and XBLA Holiday sales.

Too many unplayed/unfinished games to list, especially after the STEAM and Amazon sales.

However I did decide to stop playing a game for a day then anotehr the next day etc..
