can assure you that the current PSN as you know it will remain a free service. It is something that our competitors don’t offer and something that shows our loyalty to the PlayStation Community. However, Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium service to sit alongside the current free service and that objective has not changed. You’ll learn more about it very soon.

If Sony is going to charge $10 monthly or even $70/$80 a year, then Kaz can keep his Premium PSN+.

It depends what's up at $70 or $80 a year though. If they expand to something like including movie packages or MLB Network into the package, then we're talking.

If it's some discount on DLC, free arcade game monthly and downloading patches in the background then thanks but no thanks Sony.

It obviously depends on what is offered, but $70 isn't unreasonable to me.

I'll stick with my $35-40 XBL membership from Amazon for a year. Thanks Sony. Paying to download patches in the background is the dumbest thing I've heard.
There's no way I would ever pay that.

Anything over 60$ (price of one game) is too much.

Sony is so damn stupid if they were smart they would keep everything free cause it is just a smart business move especially if they actually charge like 80 bucks for it. If your going to charge you have to keep it lower than Xbox Live it just makes sense from a selling point perspective. I guarantee if it is that much money it will fail. Sony has no common sense whatsoever.

I don't see how it's a failure on their part if they're keeping everything we get now free, and then charging for additional stuff? the only thing they can do is profit in that situation

IMO, it pushes more gamers over to XBL. I mean, if your gonna pay, might as well go ahead and get on the system that the majority is on already rather than pay to get on a system that has a smaller base.

Yeah not required at all for online play which is what I think matters most. It wouldn't drive me away anyhow, I don't know anyone that plays on the X360 we all have PS3's lol. Weird I know...

No, the point he makes is good. Sure, PSN remains free for the basic service. But if you are going to pay $50 a year for an online service for your gaming console, XBL is far and away the better service.

It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I want to play Russian Roulette in regards to them picking the free games. I might either a) hate it or b) already own it, and with either of those two I wouldn't be getting my money's worth. If I got to pick the game it would be different.

Also, am I reading this right...?

At launch, PlayStation Plus will offer subscribers the full PlayStation Network game, WipEout HD, full game trial of inFAMOUS, PSP minis and PS One Classics such as Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies and Rally Cross, as well as premium avatars, themes and DLC levels and map packs. Additionally, subscribers will always have access to their virtual library of free games for as long as they keep their PlayStation Plus subscription. In all, subscribers will get an unprecedented amount of value, access and convenience and, in the first month alone, will receive more than $50 worth of content.
So, if it's a full game trial that we can buy if we like it, does that mean we'd be downloading an entire inFAMOUS Blu-Ray off the PSN?

I think I just saw my 60 GB PS3 get up and go cry in the corner - I'm not sure how that's feasible for anyone with a smaller Hard Drive.

Yeah but everything we have now is still free. Only thing that changed is the PSN+ gets a few extra things. If people havent already gone to the 360 this isnt going to make them now.
