I was doing some more research on my move back to a 360 - just read that you can get the $199 new 360 and connect USB drives to make up for the lack of memory you get with the console?

So I can stick in two 16 GB flash drives and have 32 GB of memory (which is more than enough for me) and drop $200 on the new console and be all set? I think this may be a no brainer for me.

Any one have experience with using flash drives as their primary storage? Does it work well for demos (not that I DL many of them)?

The flash drives work great, it's a cheap, easy way to add 32GB to any system. Plus, they are portable if you go to a friends house, you have all your files with you wherever you go.

Yes, the 16GB cards work well with the new slim 4gb system. You can even install games to the card and they work well.

I went and bought a new 250 gb to go along with my PS3. Almost everyone I know has a 360 and It's tough to game online with them without one. I used to have one and the warranty expired so I sold it. I've seen four of my friend's 360s die multiple times so I wanted to wait for the new one to get back into it.

So far I'm happy with it. I want to make up my mind whether to lay it down or stand it up permanently. I laid it down for two days and It runs extremely quiet and I tried standing it up today, just to see how it performed, and it seems significantly louder. What do you guys do ?

Use that big hard drive to install those games. That will significantly reduce the noise of the system (if you're not already doing this of course). I'm also of the opinion that ALL systems will truly run better laying flat.

Yeah, I was reading an article about this a few weeks back and its best to lay the system flat. I wish I would have linked it here for others to read.

Man, never ever ever stand a console upright. It doesn't even make sense when ya think about it.

Sorry about bringing the memory thing back up... but can you take an external hard drive and use it as the hard drive for the 4 gb 360?

Just asking because I am looking into getting a new one pretty soon because my backup 360 red ringed on me this weekend. I'm thinking of using my main one as the backup now, and getting a new one for my main use.

I have a 256 GB external hard drive that I don't use anymore just lying around, and was wondering if I could use that instead of the flash drives. I don't know if 36 GB is enough space for me, so I'm probably either going to get the 250 GB one for 300 dollars, or do this if the xbox will let you.

Also, if you have downloadable content/arcade games that you payed for can you transfer that to the new xbox, or would it be stuck on the old hard drive?

MS released a tech note saying that Flash memory is much better than using any hardware with spinning parts. So I guess an external hard drive will work in theory but you won't get the best experience.

Yes, an external HDD will work up to 16gb..........the system will not use the rest of the HDD space. They are trying to sell HDD's of their own hence the limited space.

Alright, I guess I'll probably spring for the 250 GB one then.

I know you can transfer saves and such with the file transfer kit, but can you transfer DLC/Add-ons that were paid for, like Fallout 3 stuff or an arcade game?

Picked up the 4 GB model this evening. Grabbed CH2K8 and Gears of War 2 (never played it before) and of course DL'd the 2K11 demo.

All I can say is it's good to be back home. I missed the 360 more than I realized. Just playing CH2K8 on 360, the difference is remarkable. No jaggies, so much smoother, no camera lag.

Can't wait to waste so much of my life on 2K11 with this puppy over the next several months.
