    Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion

I know I ask this every few months but please, somebody help me start using my Vita as something other than a paper weight!

Are there any titles out there for someone looking for a mature/thought-provoking handheld experience?

This system oozes the flexibility to support titles like Journey and TTG's The Walking Dead (which I already own on the PS3).

Are there any exclusive titles out there that I may enjoy (even if they're interactive novels/point and click adventures/etc)?

I'm just so tired of looking at all of the releases and essentially seeing a KB Toys shopping basket. It seems to all be sidescrollers or bobble head this or fun for you AND your kids or first person shootfest nonsense (no offense).

Flower is on my radar (which I don't own), for when it eventually releases on Vita, but again; I think I may as well just go the PS3 route because I can just do it now and prefer the larger TV screen when possible. I'm honestly extremely disappointed in this device and would probably just sell if it weren't for how it's going to be used next gen.

Can anyone save this system for me?

Give it time, especially when the main game comes out. You'll be playing people that don't have many things, and IMO you can fare just fine with your simple loadout if you like assault rifles.

What games have you tried on the system that have already been released?

Here's a list of upcoming titles with broad appeal or whatever. Try looking some of these games up.

          Action/Adventure/Fighting

Toukiden is a big hunting action game set in feudal Japan. It's Monster Hunter-y and the Japanese just went nuts for it. It's coming out "Q4 2013" according to Koei. DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a visual novel adventure game that crosses Phoenix Wright with Virtue's Last Reward and throws in Persona style S-Links. The first game is coming "early 2014", the sequel's life depends on how well it sells. Borderlands 2 is coming early 2014. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z might be fun if the idea of 4 on 4 DBZ Tenkaichi fighting sounds exciting to you. There's a trailer for it on YouTube. It's indie as hell, but I just can't pass on telling people about Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut, a 2D pixellated side-scrolling survival horror which is scary as ****. Killzone: Mercenary is coming out in a couple of weeks and the beta is out now for PS+ members. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number should be a lot of fun and is a must buy if you liked the first game. The colors really pop on the Vita's OLED screen and the game is much better on the handheld than the PC, imo. It's coming out sometime next year.

Some really hot Japan-only (until confirmed localized) titles include God Eater 2, J-Stars Victory VS, and Gundam Breaker. J-Stars is going to be THE import for 2013.

          Platforming / Puzzle

Minecraft and Terraria are both coming out sooner or later. I don't think I have to describe Minecraft these days but Terraria is sort of like a 2D platformer version of it with more structure and linearity. Minecraft is ???? and Terraria is supposedly coming sometime this year. Spelunky comes out tomorrow, and Fez is coming along sometime sooner or later. I've also heard some good things about 1001 Spikes, which should do well until Nicalis decides to spit La Mulana at us (please hurry Nicalis). Rayman Legends is coming out September 3rd, and based off the first game (Rayman Origins), I cannot recommend it enough if you have any interest in 2d platformers. I'm not a big fan of platformers and still enjoyed Rayman Origins. Tearaway comes out in November and looks pretty good and might be one of the more interesting and unique exclusives coming out soon.

          RPG

Ys: Memories of Celceta is supposedly a pretty fun action RPG from the long running Ys franchise that people keep telling me is good. It drops in November. Demon Gaze is a fairly well received 1st person dungeon crawler that's dropping early 2014. And I can't really go without talking about Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster which probably needs no introduction. There are a bunch of weird low hype RPGs coming soon but I have no idea how they'll fare, but you can't go wrong with next year's The Binding of Issac: Rebirth

Japan's getting Disgaea 4 Return sometime next year and we're certain to get it over here.

Ask and thou shalt recieve! Holy crap.

Let me do some research on the suggested titles and I'll pop back in here with some direct responses to the questions above.

I'm sad that there is no madden, NHL or NBA 2k game made for vita this year, I thought this system was advertised as console games on the go. I guess I have to spend 400 on a ps4 and 60 a ports game and remote play them...not sure if its worth doing tht as I'd rather play them on an hdtv

This was a mistake from the beginning. This was highlighted again this week by Sony saying it would take a lot to get the new GT6 to run on the Vita in any form.

I fully expect it to be a handheld for indies, jp ports, and remote play. Few titles will use what power the system does have because developers won't be making PS3 games anymore with any regularity and it would take that much more for a PS4 game to make it's way over outside of remote play.

I'd be cool with the Vita becoming the home for indie games. Trapper listed several that should fit right in on the Vita.

I play the Vita now more than my 360, sitting on the couch keeping my wife company. It has been a great system for family harmony! Yeah, I'd like more games, yeah, Sony royally screwed the potential this system has, but I definitely don't regret buying it.

Same, I can game to my hearts content on the couch and half way pay attention to Rizzoli & Isles or other shows my wife likes to watch while she plays her candy crush lives. It's all about the company and Vita serves that well.

I mainly played only Hot Shots Golf or some show. I got P4G but stopped playing and I also had Uncharted I beat, and Gravity Rush which I just couldn't get into.

Since some of the sales with Plus, I ended up buying Hotline Miami, Stealth, Dotokura, Knytt, and Madden 13 for $20.... Thinking bout getting Fifa for $20 - But since these purchases I've actually enjoyed the Vita more. I just didn't take the plunge into those games earlier and glad I did because they are cool games to play and once I beat them I'm going to look into more games outside of the sports genre. Rayman, Soul Sacrifice, Metal Gears, Limbo, LBP, Sly, and Dragon Crown, and Miramusa? are some I'm looking at delving into once I beat some of the new buys I just got.

im getting killzone on the 10th but I am still a bit disappointed that there is not many sports games coming out for the Vita this year...I thought Madden 13 was a great first effort on Vita, it even had that big patch released, kind of sucks that EA gave up on the Vita so quickly(well atleast with madden). I think NHL and NBA would be awesome on Vita, hopefully next year...

Other sports too. FIFA is getting panned for being literally just a roster/kit update again. ROI probably isnt there for much else.

Hey, hey more indie games guys.

Cosmic Star Heroine is Sci-Fi JRPG inspired by games like Phantasy Star and Suikoden brought to you by the people who made Cthulhu Saves the World.

Road Not Taken is a "puzzle roguelike".

Here's a trailer for that Batman game: Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate.

Also Sony has created an entire internal division dedicated to bringing third party content to their platforms. Their first title is Borderlands 2 on Vita.

Sounds like a fun game. I sure hope it will come at a higher resolution than that 8-bit PC version, though.

You all should check out Sound Shapes too. That was a fun game.
