Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion

Sony confirmed today that the PlayStation Vita Slim (also called the PlayStation Vita 2000), a lighter, smaller version of the Vita handheld will be coming to the US sometime "this spring."

We've had hands-on with the device since it's European launch last week, and we also have a photo comparison between the OLED original and the LED update right here. But what exactly is different?

15% lighter and 20% slimmer than the original
LCD instead of the OLED of the original -- our UK editors haven't noticed a significant difference in visual fidelity, but we're putting together a more in-depth photographic comparison
Longer battery life: 4-6 hours versus the original Vita's 3-5 hours
1GB internal memory (same as the original)

In addition to the standalone hardware we're already familiar with, the wi-fi-only system will also ship in a Borderlands 2 bundle. This bundle will cost the same as the current Vita model ($200), but it will come packaged with:

Aside from the screen change, the system itself is very nearly the same size as the current Vita. Not enough here to warrant me trading in what I have now for one.

Borderlands 2 should sell some copies, though. Not sure about God of War. I've never actually played GOW, so I will probably bite and give it a try.

The nice thing about the 2000 is the battery life is about 7-8 hours long, that alone to me is huge vs. the current 1000 battery which lasts 4-4.5 hrs.

That is certainly a good addition.

From what I have read by those that own the Japanese version of the 2000 that released last year, you no longer need to buy grips for holding the Vita 2000 like we had to with the 1000. Guess it feels much more comfy to hold without having to buy ones.

I've never owned a Vita, yet alone any Playstation system... But thoroughly enjoy Borderlands 2 on the Xbox. Also really want a baseball game on the go... This is exactly what I need...

Walking dead bundle is $149 at costco if you're in Canada.
Been really thinking about a Vita lately since the job is keeping me on the road.
Would love to see one for that cheap here in the states. What the best price anyone sees from time to time? Are Vita's ever under $189ish?

The new Vita bundle with Borderlands 2 and an 8GB memory card has my attention for sure. And the new Vita includes 1GB memory from start which is an added bonus. This is definitely swaying me even more towards the PS Vita.

How much difference is the graphics quality between the OLED and LCD? I've read all kinds of different opinions across the Internet. If I've never had a Vita, will I even be affected?

I can always go with the original if needed. I might just end up going with the bundle game that interests me most.

The 1GB of memory can't be used in conjunction with a memory card, it's either/or. What's also of interest, the memory chip on board is actually 4GB and the original Vita has a 4GB chip on board as well. What they did, presumably, after it had been out a while was decided that that entire 4GB wasn't needed for OS and partitioned a gig for game storage. Why they don't patch this into the original Vita is because the original had a much slower chip on it, meaning the memory was too slow for a game.

I hope Borderlands includes the DLC and their isn't to many issues with framerate, glitches, controls, etc

The article I read stated all six of the add-on packs are included. I didn't play Borderlands 2 on any console, so I'm not sure what all that entails. But it sounds good!

Is Borderlands a first- or third-person perspective?
