    Re: PSP2 Information Emerging

Live Area is like the hub page for a game, where users can get information on different games, and jump right into the PlayStation Store, and other parts of the PS space.

It's easy to hop in and out of the game almost instantaenously. Think about how fast you can open and close apps on an iPhone. Same speed here, when launching games.

You can drill down even deeper to see how many people are playing Hot Shots in your area, for example. If you see someone playing a game, you can touch it and buy it instantly on the PS Store to start playing for yourself.

Tapping on the avatar shows the games that user was playing recently. This is like a Google Map for gamers, showing when, where, and what people are playing. So much information!

Meh. I went in at probably an 8 on the interest scale, and now I am at a 4. It would be higher if I was in Tokyo or NYC where all of the Live Area stuff might have been at all useful, but I'm not. It's just too big and doesn't do enough, I just wouldn't be able to carry this and a 4"+ android device.

Also the port of Lost Planet 2 (which looks slightly less than the ps3 version) only took 2 weeks to complete.

The scanning in realtime to see whos online wherever you point it is cool but I dont care of online stuff that bad

Their Playstation Suite thing just did the Android platform one huge favor. A unified store for games. Also, SONY is practically making Playstation phones without actually having to make one.

                True enough Leon

Althogh it makes me wonder if this is just their way of breaking the phone into the market at some point since android has such growing popularity

I bet. As a direct rival to Apple's App Store (in-terms of games, anyway), Playstation Suite has a good chance of leveling the playing field for Android devices and leveraging the Playstation brand. Developers would have a unified framework to work with (which should make things easier considering the multiple hardware) and a direct sales channel compared to the old fragmented Android stores.

I don't own an Android (iPhone user) but I find that very exciting. Now if you can take your data on your phone, then play it on your new PSP, now that would be impressive.

Source: NGP battery life is 4-5 hours

The recently announced PSP2, codenamed Next Generation Portable, has a battery life of between four and five hours, Eurogamer has been told by a source.

Six to eight hours of life was Sony's original target, Eurogamer understands.

Sony announced the NGP this morning at a Tokyo press, but failed to discuss the device's battery life.
NGP pricing is also yet to be revealed, but Eurogamer was told this morning that Sony will "make a loss".

                      Re: PSP2 Information Emerging

                      4-5 hours? Ouch.

Well, it does look nice as hell. That's for sure. And finally dual analog sticks!! It shouldn't have taken 6 years for that to happen, but oh well. Glad they got it in now.

I'm definitely more interested in this than I was before the announcement. I don't think I'm going to jump in and buy it on release day or anything, but I guess I should wait until I see what games come out on launch and get more details on the system itself before I say that for sure.

I'm just thinking that (and this could be said for every gaming system on the face of the planet) it'll be better to wait a little while so the early issues get ironed out, the games get better and all that good stuff. Hopefully they'll figure out a way to extend the battery life down the line as well.

Sooooooo awesome! I'm ecstatic that they kept it in the size/design of the 3000... that device is SO much more comfortable to game on than the Go. And being able to have TRUE portable versions of Uncharted, Killzone, and Resistance? HELL. YES.

                        I'm in.

BTW... what's the point of the touch pad on the rear of the system?

                        EDIT: AND IT SUPPORTS TROPHIES??????

I am all over this one for sure pending on price......that thing looks sweet and sounds awesome from the specs. Hopefully it won't come in over $300 or else Sony will be looking at the premature death of this thing. I can see the argument that this thing is a beast, but in this economy and people's spending habits have changed.......you want to convert those 60 million+ PSP owners to this device.

My only concerns are the analog sticks. I wonder if those will be comfortable or not.

Plus this is another thing to add to my Trophy addiction. LOL!
