well it asked if I wanted to use my PSN network ID to connect, I said yes, but it kept saying connect error even though I already setup my WIFI. I was caught in this endless loop of it asking but then timing out. I eventually said screw it and let it create a regular account or something like that. Then I was able to actually get to the menu system and do everything from there.

    Ugh

This case in particular reminds me of the Logitech PDP PSP cases, those were so damn durable. With my kids, this will be needed.

I reckon Sony will give this week to iron things out, and they'll get everything working properly by the official launch next Wednesday.

Well, first you unpack it, then put the memory card in. It's now time to power it up, it will run you through multiple tutorials, and you need to set up the WiFi. You will have to do the firmware update, and then you can link up with your own account. It took me about an hour to do the initial set-up, and although you can skip the tutorials, I wouldn't.

I'd like to be able to confirm that my Vita is out on the UPS truck for delivery today, but I can't because the UPS site is seriously on the blink.

Guess all I can do is wait...

What's the battery life right out of the box? Do you have to plug it in right away?

Take it to Mcdonalds or Starbucks and link with the wifi there.

Not sure about the FW being on the carts though.

idk honestly you just asked about doing it w/o wifi. That is one option. You may be able to do it on your pc.
